Traditional forms of quantum uncertainty relations are invariably based on the standard deviation... more Traditional forms of quantum uncertainty relations are invariably based on the standard deviation. This can be understood in the historical context of simultaneous development of quantum theory and mathematical statistics. Here, we present alternative forms of uncertainty relations, in both state dependent and state independent forms, based on the mean deviation. We illustrate the robustness of this formulation in situations where the standard deviation based uncertainty relation is inapplicable. We apply the mean deviation based uncertainty relation to detect EPR violation in a lossy scenario for a higher inefficiency threshold than that allowed by the standard deviation based approach. We demonstrate that the mean deviation based uncertainty relation can perform equally well as the standard deviation based uncertainty relation as non-linear witness for entanglement detection.

Many of these innovations fall short of the strict patentability and non-obviousness criteria. We try to address this issue and parametrize a qutrit using the Heisenberg-Weyl operators by identifying eight real parameters and separate them as four weight and four angular parameters each. The four weight parameters correspond to the weights in front of the four mutually unbiased bases sets formed by the eigenbases of Heisenberg-Weyl observables and they form a four-dimensional unit radius Bloch hypersphere. Department of Science and Technology, India recently released the S&T indicators for the year 201... more Department of Science and Technology, India recently released the S&T indicators for the year 2019-20 which once again reveals the stagnation of India’s gross expenditure in R&D at 0.7 percent of the GDP. The R&D trends such as contribution by private sector and higher education sectors in R&D shows a continuous rise in absolute figures although their share in total R&D remains the same as previous years. The output indicators such as patents and publications have also shown an increasing trend, but India still lags behind the advanced and innovative nations. These indicators however do not divulge the true picture of innovations in India as they are focused towards capturing formal sector innovations. Indian economy is dominated by the informal sector and the innovative activities within this sector could not be represented through these conventional metrics.

However, this is the first-ever systematic review performed to report the role of yoga in arrhythmia. We have performed a literature search using Cochrane Library, Medline/PubMed, Web of Science Core Collection, and IndMED electronic databases up to 3, January 2018. Of 240 articles, 6 potentially eligible articles were identified and included in the review. Results showed that yoga could be considered an efficient adjuvant in reducing arrhythmia (paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachyarrhythmia, and palpitation) related health problems; blood pressure, heart rate, depression and anxiety scores; and in improving health-related QoL of arrhythmia patients. BACKGROUND Infective endocarditis (IE) is a common and serious complication in patients receiving... more BACKGROUND Infective endocarditis (IE) is a common and serious complication in patients receiving chronic hemodialysis (HD). OBJECTIVES This study sought to investigate whether there are significant differences in complications, cardiac surgery, relapses, and mortality between IE cases in HD and non-HD patients. METHODS Prospective cohort study (International Collaboration on Endocarditis databases, encompassing 7,715 IE episodes from 2000 to 2006 and from 2008 to 2012). Descriptive analysis of baseline characteristics, epidemiological and etiological features, complications and outcomes, and their comparison between HD and non-HD patients was performed. Risk factors for major embolic events, cardiac surgery, relapses, and in-hospital and 6-month mortality were investigated in HD-patients using multivariable logistic regression. RESULTS A total of 6,691 patients were included and 553 (8.3%) received HD. North America had a higher HD-IE proportion than the other regions. The predominant microorganism was Staphylococcus aureus (47.8%), followed by enterococci (15.4%). Both in-hospital and 6-month mortality were significantly higher in HD versus non-HD-IE patients (30.4% vs. 17% and 39.8% vs. 20.7%, respectively; p < 0.001). Cardiac surgery was less frequently performed among HD patients (30.6% vs. 46.2%; p < 0.001), whereas relapses were higher (9.4% vs. 2.7%; p < 0.001). Risk factors for 6-month mortality included Charlson score (hazard ratio [HR]: 1.26; 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.11 to 1.44; p = 0.001), CNS emboli and other emboli (HR: 3.11; 95% CI: 1.84 to 5.27; p < 0.001; and HR: 1.73; 95% CI: 1.02 to 2.93; p = 0.04, respectively), persistent bacteremia (HR: 1.79; 95% CI: 1.11 to 2.88; p = 0.02), and acute onset heart failure (HR: 2.37; 95% CI: 1.49 to 3.78; p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS HD-IE is a health care-associated infection chiefly caused by S. aureus, with increasing rates of enterococcal IE. Mortality and relapses are very high and significantly larger than in non-HD-IE patients, whereas cardiac surgery is less frequently performed.

We aimed to assess the effect of 12 weeks of structured yoga on stress and the professional quality of life among nursing staff. Design and method. An open-label, phase-II randomized clinical trial was undertaken considering a sample size of convenience was done. In service nursing staff were randomized (1:1) to intervention group and wait-list control group. Primary outcome was perceived stress which was measured by Perceived Stress Scale (PSS). Secondary measures were professional quality measured by Professional Quality of Life (ProQOL) scale, blood pressure, serum cortisol, and high-sensitive C-reactive protein. Both the per-protocol and intention to treat analysis was done. Results. Total 113 participants were allocated to intervention group (n = 58, mean = 35 years, SD = 7.9 years) and wait-list control group (n = 55, mean = 32.5 years, SD = 6.8 years). Generalization implies the ability to recognize an input pattern not used during the training of ... more Generalization implies the ability to recognize an input pattern not used during the training of a neural network. Effective regularization strategies are one of the ways to make the generalization capability of the neural network better. In this article, the objective is to improve the generalization of multilayer perceptron (MLP) by regularization with the help of KL-Divergence (KLD) based weight adaption technique. For the purpose, we modify the conventional weight adaption criterion of MLP by incorporating KLD as an additional regularization term with the mean squared error function. We have tested the proposed regularizing approach on ten benchmark classification data sets. Our experimental results show that the KLD based regularized MLP provides better classification accuracy compared to the conventional MLP. We also observe that the efficiency of the proposed method is highly dependent on the coefficient (β) of the regularization term. The proposed method shows the best result for β = 0.02 for eight out of ten classification data sets.

A beautiful idea about the incompatibility of Physical Context(IPC) was introduced in [Phys. Rev.... more A beautiful idea about the incompatibility of Physical Context(IPC) was introduced in [Phys. Rev. A 102, 050201(R) (2020)]. Here, a context is defined as a set of a quantum state and two sharp rank-one measurements, and the incompatibility of physical context is defined as the leakage of information while implementing those two measurements successively in that quantum state. In this work, we show the limitations in their approach. The three primary limitations are that, (i) their approach is not generalized for POVM measurements and (ii), they restrict information theoretic agents Alice, Eve and Bob to specific quantum operations and do not consider most general quantum operations i.e., quantum instruments and (iii), their measure of IPC can take negative values in specific cases in a more general scenario which implies the limitation of their information measure. Thereby, we have introduced a generalization and modification to their approach in more general and convenient way, such that this idea is well-defined for generic measurements, without these limitations. We also present a comparison of the measure of the IPC through their and our method. Lastly, we show, how the IPC reduces in the presence of memory using our modification, which further validates our approach.

The left ventricular outflow is an anatomically complex region situated between the anterior leaf... more The left ventricular outflow is an anatomically complex region situated between the anterior leaflet of the mitral valve and the left ventricular aspect of the muscular and membranous interventricular septum. It gives rise to the aorta, provides support to the aortic valvular cusps, and houses important components of the conduction system. The left ventricular outflow handles high pressures and pressure variations and is subsequently affected by a variety of aetio pathological conditions. Diseases involving the left ventricular outflow can be intraluminal, mural, or extramural, and the consequent complications of the lesions can be local, locoregional, or even systemic. Appropriate evaluation requires comprehensive multimodality imaging with each modality contributing to assessment of different aspects of diagnosis, lesion characterization, local extension, prognostication for systemic complications and mortality, and the decision for the approach and type of intervention and aggressive followup in case noninterventional manage ment is decided. In this review, we briefly describe the relevant anatomy and the gamut of structural abnormalities pertaining to the left ventricular outflow on multidetector computed tomography angiography.

We are on Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) cycle 1 and will shortly commence evaluation of our intervention. Conclusions We anticipate our intervention will gradually improve wound photography compliance in open fracture patients following continued PDSA cycles. Our devised photography process can be applied for other clinical indications within various specialities.

Background: This study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of a yoga-based exercise progra... more Background: This study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of a yoga-based exercise program (YBEP) in improving glycemic control in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Materials and Methods: Patients on stable oral glucose-lowering agents for at least 3 months and HbA1c 7.5%–10% were randomized in 1:1 ratio. The primary outcome measure was the difference of change in mean HbA1c between groups. Results: The participants (n = 81) had mean (±standard deviation) age of 50.6 (±8.5) years and HbA1c of 8.5 ± 0.7% (68.97 ± 7.42 mmol/mol). The follow-up data were available in 96% (78/81) of participants. Of 40 participants, 25 (62.5%) attended ≥75% (≥10 out of 13) of the sessions in YBEP. On the intention to treat analysis, a favorable reduction (0.21% 95% confidence interval [−0.34, 0.75], P = 0.454) in HbA1c was seen in YBEP group as compared to usual care. The reduction in HbA1c by ≥0.5% was observed in 44.7% of participants in YBEP as compared to 37.5% in usual care arm, respectively. Those who attended ≥75% of the sessions had better HbA1c reduction of 0.3% in comparison to 0.1% reduction seen in those who attended <75% of the sessions. Conclusions: YBEP demonstrated a clinically relevant HbA1c reduction compared to usual care in participants who had attended at least 75% of the yoga sessions. The reduction in HbA1c by >0.5% in 44.7% in the yoga group, suggests, that it can be prescribed as an exercise to individuals who are unable to walk either due to limited joint mobility, adverse weather conditions, lack of space for walking, cultural or religious prohibitions for women for outdoor physical activity, and so on. Conclusions We anticipate our intervention will gradually improve wound photography compliance in open fracture patients following continued PDSA cycles. Our devised photography process can be applied for other clinical indications within various specialities.

Background: This study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of a yoga-based exercise progra... more Background: This study was designed to evaluate the effectiveness of a yoga-based exercise program (YBEP) in improving glycemic control in people with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Materials and Methods: Patients on stable oral glucose-lowering agents for at least 3 months and HbA1c 7.5%–10% were randomized in 1:1 ratio. The primary outcome measure was the difference of change in mean HbA1c between groups. Results: The participants (n = 81) had mean (±standard deviation) age of 50.6 (±8.5) years and HbA1c of 8.5 ± 0.7% (68.97 ± 7.42 mmol/mol). The follow-up data were available in 96% (78/81) of participants. Of 40 participants, 25 (62.5%) attended ≥75% (≥10 out of 13) of the sessions in YBEP. On the intention to treat analysis, a favorable reduction (0.21% 95% confidence interval [−0.34, 0.75], P = 0.454) in HbA1c was seen in YBEP group as compared to usual care. The reduction in HbA1c by ≥0.5% was observed in 44.7% of participants in YBEP as compared to 37.5% in usual care arm, respectively. Those who attended ≥75% of the sessions had better HbA1c reduction of 0.3% in comparison to 0.1% reduction seen in those who attended <75% of the sessions. Conclusions: YBEP demonstrated a clinically relevant HbA1c reduction compared to usual care in participants who had attended at least 75% of the yoga sessions. The reduction in HbA1c by >0.5% in 44.7% in the yoga group, suggests, that it can be prescribed as an exercise to individuals who are unable to walk either due to limited joint mobility, adverse weather conditions, lack of space for walking, cultural or religious prohibitions for women for outdoor physical activity, and so on.
