Metal ions in aqueous medium from s, p and d-block elements were investigated based on chelation-induced colorimetric chemosensing. The result revealed that ASASB can be used as a new colorimetric chemosensor for selective detection of Cu 2+ ion in aqueous solution.

A large number of metal complexes of Schiff-base were reported with various ways in activation of small molecules, in addition to being as nano-precursors and with nice redox capability. Attention is paid to their potential applications in areas viz. optical utilization, 1-3 biology, 4-7 catalysis, 8-10 corrosion inhibition, 11,12 as well as for thermal, magnetic and electrical purpose, 13 etc. As a result of their broad spectrum in utility, there are constantly growing interests in finding better and more convenient synthetic routes to Schiff-base, the ligand to coordinate to metal center.

Amongst them derivative (IIIc) could not be obtained in the liquid phase. When sodium nitrite is employed to replace sodium carbonate, fullerotriazoline (IV) is formed. The work in this paper presents a one-pot mechanochemical synthesis of Co(II) and Fe(III) complex... more The work in this paper presents a one-pot mechanochemical synthesis of Co(II) and Fe(III) complexes of 6,6'-((1E,1'E)-(1,2-phenylenebis(azanylylidene))bis(methanylylidene))bis(2-ethoxyphenol) (Salen) and 6,6'-((1E,1'E)-(1,2-phenylenebis(azanylylidene))bis(methanylylidene))bis(2-ethoxyphenol) (Salophen) ligands without solvent and catalyst. The reaction was carried out by using ball mill technique starting with 3-ethoxysalicylaldehyde(a), 1,2-phenylenediamine(b) or ethylenediamine(c) and metal salts directly without isolating the ligand. Mechanochemical activation enables domino processes that do not require the isolation of the ligand and use of a solvent, in contrast to solution chemistry.

Cyclic voltammetric and electrochemical impedance spectroscopic results revealed potentiodynamic deposition of a conductive electroactive poly(A 2 P 2 CuC) film on the glassy carbon electrode surface increasing its effective surface area. In contrast to the unmodified glassy carbon electrode, appearance of an oxidative peak at a reduced potential with over two fold current for amoxicillin at poly(A 2 P 2 CuC)/GCE demonstrated its electrocatalytic property attributed to reduce charge transfer resistance and the improved surface area of the electrode surface. Better correlation of the oxidative peak current with square root of scan rate (R 2 ¼ 0.99779) than with scan rate (R 2 ¼ 0.96953) supplemented by slope of 0.58 for log(current) versus log(scan rate) confirmed diffusion controlled irreversible oxidation of amoxicillin. At optimized solution and SWV parameters, current response of poly(A 2 P 2 CuC)/GCE showed linear dependence on concentration of amoxicillin (2.0-100.0 μM) with LoD 0.0115 μM. While no amoxicillin was detected in the human blood serum sample, an amount 89.40-100.55% of the nominal level was detected in the analyzed eight tablet brands. Spike recovery in tablet samples (98.90-101.95%) and blood serum sample (102.20-101.37%); interference with an error (%RSD) of 0.00-4.51% in tablet and 0.00-2.10% in serum samples; excellent stability and reproducible results, added with the wide dynamic range and low LoD validated the method for amoxicillin determination in pharmaceutical formulations and human urine samples.

The findings showed that a wide range of Salophen ligands could be produced in good to excellent yields. In comparison to the similar Salophen synthesis to date, the current study provided solvent-free, fast reaction, high yield, and easy work-up.

The results of cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy supported the modification of the GCE by a polymer layer that raised the electrode surface area and conductivity. At the poly(reso)/GCE, an irreversible oxidative peak with four-and fivefold current enhancement for CLN and CFL, respectively, at a substantially lower potential demonstrated the catalytic action of the modifier. Under optimized solution and parameters, the peak current response at the poly(reso)/GCE revealed a linear dependence on the concentration of CLN and CFL within the range 0.1−300 and 0.5−300 μM, respectively, with a limit of detection (LoD) of 3.12 and 8.7 nM, respectively. The levels of CLN in four selected tablet brands and CFL in two tablet brands were in the vicinity of 91.00−103.65% and 97.7−98.83%, respectively, of their nominal values. The recovery results for CLN in pharmaceutical samples were in the range of 99.00−100.67% and for CFL 97.9−99.75% and for blood serum and urine samples 99.55−100.55% and 99.33−100.34% for CLN and 97.13−100.60% and 96.73−102.50% for CFL, respectively. Interference recovery results with errors less than 4.81%, lower LoD, wider dynamic range, excellent recovery results, and good stability of the modifier compared to those for the previously reported methods validated the use of the poly(reso)/GCE for determining CLN and CFL simultaneously in various real samples.

Funding information Academia Sinica A versatile and robust mechanochemical route to Aldehyde-Schi... more Funding information Academia Sinica A versatile and robust mechanochemical route to Aldehyde-Schiff base conversions has been established for a broad range of aldehydes via a simple cogrinding in mortar with a pestle under a solvent-free, as well as solvent-assisted, environment. The extent of amines reactivity under these conditions has also been explored, along with an examination of the possible connection between reactivity and electronic substituent effects. Results obtained demonstrated that the solventfree mechanochemical conversion of p-toluidine and aromatic aldehydes to the corresponding Schiff bases proceeded more smoothly than the corresponding synthesis with 4-aminobenzonitrile. The present approach not only provides good to excellent yields but also eliminates the disadvantages of the traditional synthesis of Schiff bases, such as the use of hazardous solvents, more or less demand of expensive catalysts, and looking for optimization on reaction conditions.

UV-vis and photoluminescence of aromatic salicylideneaniline Schiff-base (ASASB) derivatives with substituents ranging from electron donating to electron withdrawing (ÀCH 3 , ÀCl, ÀBr, ÀI, ÀC(¼O)CH 3 , ÀC(¼O)OC 2 H 5 , ÀCN), and ring nitrogen containing derivatives were studied in solvents of different dielectric constant (n-hexane, toluene, ethyl acetate, THF, ethanol and methanol).

Out of 16 solid state reactions, seven cobalt-amine complexes could be established as solid coordination compounds by elemental analysis, TGA, IR, PXRD, magnetic susceptibility etc., in addition to visual observation of the color change of reaction mixture. Based on investigation of reaction and analysis of products, conclusions with outlook could be made as follows: On top of the-NH 2 group on primary aromatic amines an additional substituent group should better be at para or meta positions and not at ortho position in order to realize the solid coordination compounds. On the other hand, an electron withdrawing substituent or an extra aromatic ring is negative towards formation of the solid coordination compounds. The solid coordination Co(II)-compounds are labile in solution.
