In 18 of the 90 patients, the disease was limited to the central nervous system and the median survival was 8 months with 4 patients surviving 1 year and 2 patients for 2 years. 6 Aggressive chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy therapy can result in necrotizing meningoencephalopathy. Although this is not common, it can occur usually 6 months later. 22 Nausea, vomiting, mental status changes and rarely seizures have also been described with high dose CSF methotrexate levels. In conclusion, we have illustrated a case of carcinomatous meningitis presenting in a previously healthy 45-year-old lady returning from a holiday in Bali. Whilst infectious diseases clearly predominate in the aetiology of meningitis, it is important to be aware of the non-infectious cause of this syndrome.
