Probabilistic Design Analysis (PDA) methodology and related tools are evolving in conjunction wit... more Probabilistic Design Analysis (PDA) methodology and related tools are evolving in conjunction with the needs and requirements for designs that are robust with quantified reliability and risk. The implementation of these methodologies through a concurrent engineering process is ideal for integrating the results in a quantified manner. Each critical element of the analysis is given an observable input and relationship to the objective of the robustness and desired results. Several rocket engine components have been case studies of PDA as it has evolved toward this risk–based approach. These hardware components include a turbine blade, LOX post (Liquid Oxygen injector element), transfer duct, system ducting, and combustion chamber liner hardware. The methodology evolution in loads, structural response, damage assessment, reliability, and risk analyses is discussed in the context of the PDA of these components.
