Many studies of interorganizational cooperation have relied on transaction cost economics frameworks, which ignore cultural differences. This paper is an institutional explanation of interorganizational cooperation in Romania. The causal factors hypothesized to influence interorganizational cooperation are interorganizational trust, individualism and collectivism (indcol), and the superordinate goal of just-in-time/total quality management (JIT/TQM) on interorganizational cooperation. Interorganizational cooperation is referred to by many terms, such as, customer-supplier relationships, JIT purchasing, marketing partnerships, and supplier partnerships. As defined here, interorganizational cooperation c...

DSC performance metrics can also help balance performance tradeoffs among firms. The purpose of this paper is to develop a survey instrument to determine whether observed performance metrics correspond to the literature and to determine if performance metric systems are used to improve inter‐firm performance.Design/methodology/approachThe survey instrument used in this study was based on SCOR performance attributes consisting of: delivery reliability, responsiveness, flexibility, costs, and asset management efficiency. The survey was completed by 73 members of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) consisting of high‐level managers representing US companies.FindingsOne factor explained the underlying one‐dimensional structure of the surveyed Supply‐chain operations reference (SCOR) model as an internal metrics system but the authors did not find...

Prometalex S.A. is a teaching case concerning a newly privatised Romanian producer of food process and bottling systems that ventured into making hydraulic car lifts after highly disappointing sales in the newly privatised company. The venture involved the selection of off-shore suppliers for three major subcomponents: hydraulic pumps, electronic controls and hydraulic cylinders. Prometalex was not satisfied with Romanian suppliers and searched for offshore suppliers. The Prometalex managers experienced an intensive self-taught lesson in supplier selection. Their decision was based on quality, price, delivery and payment conditions. Small volume and offshore supply constraints, however, led to costs that would hurt profitability as Prometalex was about to begin volume production of the lifts. The opportunity to source from a new Romanian supplier was a welcome development but supply uncertainty was a major barrier. The case introduces history, concepts and issues associated with purchasing in a transition economy.

Even if peering is an efficient way to exchange traffic freely, the dominant strategy for small, local internet service providers (ISPs) in the internet access market is transit. This result shows that it is hard to make a peering arrangement for the small ISPs with small amounts of traffic and a limited number of subscribers.Originality/valueThis paper supports internet policy makers reviewing the internet interconnection policy.

Nevertheless, the present list suffers from a lack of balance regarding the distribution of sites in countries and the five UNESCO regions (Europe and North America, Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean, the Arab States and Sub-Saharian Africa. The selection criteria that contribute to the designation of a place as a UNESCO World Heritage site reveal that the sites must be of outstanding universal value. However, the unevenness of the list across countries and regions may point to other factors that contribute to the inclusion of a site on the list. In 1994 the Global Strategy for a representative, balanced and credible World Heritage list was introduced in order to better reflect the full spectrum of world cultural and natural treasures. The article explores the impact prior to and twenty years after the introd...

The study determines the effect of bank competence, bank integrity, benevolence, structural assurance and service recovery on customer trust. The data were collected by self-administered questionnaires and analyzed by correlation and multiple regression analysis. The results indicated that benevolence, structural assurance, and service recovery exhibit a statistically significant influence on customer loyalty in the context of Zimbabwean banks. By contrast, bank competence and integrity have an insignificant effect on customers' trust. The study concludes that in the context of Zimbabwean banks, in order to influence customer loyalty, banks need to invest in service recovery programs, display benevolent character and assure customers of quality service.
The reformation of the bank systems' regulation and supervision in The European Union was founded... more The reformation of the bank systems' regulation and supervision in The European Union was founded on a macroprudential approach to monitor systemic risks and the vulnerabilities in a more effective way. Considered as the backbone of the new macroprudential supervision architecture, the Bank Union raises intense debates among the catching up economies. The fact that there are few studies on the costs and benefits of joining the Bank Union for the Central and Eastern European countries, explains the different views of the decision makers concerning this issue. The study stresses the manner in which macroprudential policies were implemented in Romania, as a particular case among the CEE countries, and the extent of their contribution to mitigating vulnerabilities and maintaining financial stability. The paper summarises the main arguments in favour of joining the Bank Union by emphasising the Romanian monetary authorities' stance compared to those of the neighbouring CEE countries.

The foremost strategic choices studied within the resource-based perspective are the entrepreneurial, market and learning orientations. Therefore, the study aims to assess performance allegations of the above strategic orientation trinity integrated within the international business framework. Potential individual and multiple effects included in the universal configuration research model were explored on a survey based quantitative data collected from a sample of Romanian SMEs. Investigation findings revealed the positive individual influence of foreign market and international learning orientations. Further results highlighted a greater positive explanatory power of the synergistic strategic orientation triad on the international success.

Data categorization allowed the application of the main constructs of the UTAUT model and the unveiling of the level of acceptance of Cause-Related Marketing (CrM) campaigns by managers and its use as a marketing strategy. Purpose – Most of the research on CrM emphasizes the benefits of these campaigns for charities and donors. The purpose of this study is to decode what managers think about CrM campaigns and try to discern and understand the principal motivations, benefits, and inherent risks to implement these campaigns. Findings - Managers recognize CrM benefits mainly relating them with an increase in reputation and image of the company, making it possible to differentiate and increase its notoriety. However, the social nature of this tool is what weights in the most on the decision of managers, since they recognize that being socially responsible is a competitive factor. These are all by-products of world-class manufacturing which have promoted systematic organizational and supply chain efficiencies. However, under economic shocks that are sustained over longer periods of time (e.g., Covid-19 Pandemic) and that affect supply chains from a variety of disruptions, a supply chain that is not prepared or adaptable may be broken or at a minimum weigh down the organization. Therefore, the ability to manage and control risk is a key aspect of effective supply chain management. However, the literature on pandemic risk mitigation is nascent. Thus, this paper offers a review of the extan...

Dramatic reductions were made to programs resulting in students moving into the workforce at a faster pace and with fewer academic credits. Questions existed as to whether three-year programs were sufficient for professional identity development. Professional identity, a system of attributes and values one has about self in relation to professional role, is essential for professional culture integration. This chapter employs a quasi-experimental design to compare professional identity development of Romanian business students ranging from first- through third-year using 2012 data and fourth-year students using 2007 data. Findings reveal professional identity within post-Bologna Process programs rose from first year to second but fell in the en...
