Whether there is a spatial belonging to utopia is a phenomenon that has been debated by philosophers. In other words, the question of whether utopia is a place to live is part of these discussions. On the other hand, with utopia, there is also the concept of dystopia, which is handled with an almost dialectical approach, spatialised as an inhabitable and impossible place. The concept of dystopia, used by John Stuart Mill in 1868, was encountered especially in literary works. When the concepts of dystopia and utopia are evaluated in the context of life experiences, it can be said that the starting point of the concept of dystopia is based on a previously experienced life practice. While utopia is the reciprocal of idealisation, dystopia is, on the contrary, built on the imperfect. Dystopia as an artistic phenomenon that takes place within the existentialism of mankind. It represents a place that does not exist in the mind of the viewer, but on the other hand, this non-existent place is also another not yet experienced place of an experienced place. Since dystopia emerges as a contradiction to the concept of utopia, the first examples are critical, and in the later examples the introversion and unhappiness that the artists live in their production and inner world are dominant. These thoughts have been featured in novels such as Fahrenheit 451 and Brave New World. In addition, the dystopic city image created in the movie Metropolis and some scenes depicted in the 1984 novel are examples of this. Edvard Munch's The Scream, Henry Moore's sculptures and Benjamin Peret's Automata photographs are among the known examples. The works of artists such as Kannar Lichtenberger, Hoffmann Ruan and Alison Ruttan can be shown as examples of dystopic approaches in today's ceramic art.

Buildings that contribute to the authentic identity of cities and that carry the architectural features of their eras play a key role in transmitting the urban identity to the future generations and ensuring cultural sustainability. The Modern Architecture buildings that emerged through the Modernism movement in Turkey in the early 1900s and that were produced until the end of 1980s bear the traces of a certain period, and therefore they contribute to the formation of urban memory and authentic urban identity. Modern architectural buildings were accepted and conserved as cultural assets contributing to the formation of urban memory only at the end of 20th century, and the problem of conserving the modern architectural buildings has become a topic for conservation-related discussions in all countries including Turkish. Accordingly, this study examined Edirne Government House which is a modern architectural building considering the period it was constructed as well as its architectural style, which was built as a result of a contest, and facade characteristics of which were changed in 2015, resulting in more changes in the authentic facade form of the building. The purpose of this study is to reveal how the buildings that are the results of modern architecture lost their identities following unconscious interventions. The recent restoration on the facade of Edirne Government House that is still in use in the historical city center caused the loss of authentic facade characteristics, and this restoration was assessed in line with the international regulations in the present study. Interventions to the authentic characteristics of a building, which include changing the style and presenting the traces of a time which is actually not the period of construction for that building, cause people to misperceive the architectural work and result in the distortion of architectural identity.

People who can direct clothing fashion with their original clothing and appearances and are followed with great interest by public are called 'style icons'. As style icons, people from many different disciplines such as cinema, music, design, politics and sports have emerged with fashion and had an impact on clothing styles of different periods. One of the style icons of this era is Iris Apfel, who was born in Astoria in 1921, studied art and is known as an interior designer. The aim of this research is to examine the clothing style as well as all the visual elements (clothes, accessories, jewellery, hair, make-up etc.) that constitute the style of Iris Apfel as a style icon. The method of the research is qualitative in line with the research problem, purpose and the path followed in reaching the findings. Thus, a visual analysis of 10 photographs randomly selected from personal social media accounts or the internet was carried out. The findings obtained as a result of the analysis are presented in detail on each image.

The effects of those developments have been seen as fast fashion and fast consumption which caused the fashion industry to be ranked as second among the industries seriously damaging the environment. Within the scope of sustainable fashion, the concepts of recycling and upcycling have come up with reducing environmental damage, pollution prevention and liveable environment. Within the scope of this study, pantyhose, which is used mostly by women and has a low usage due to its thin and flexible structure, was evaluated in the context of sustainability. The starting point is the recovery of waste socks for reducing environmental damage by experimental implementations in terms of the biodegradability of the pantyhose with the content of nylon material derived by combining coal and chemicals from oil and the long period of extinction in nature. Therefore, examining pantyhose with the concept of upcycling, eight experimental designs were made with bricolage and deconstruction methods. At the end of the experimental design process, it has been observed that the socks were suitable for the sewing process, were not deformed and were not misshaped, despite their flexible structure when used in the production of clothing types. It has been observed that pantyhose is not misshaped during the implementations of traditional decoration techniques (compressed felt, cord fastening, encrusted applique and patchwork); it showed great results for usability; it can be used as an alternative material in fancy clothing, for widening narrow clothes and to make creative designs using each part. In this study, it was aimed to reuse the wasted pantyhose and to add effective, functional, aesthetic value to pantyhose in the clothing and fashion industry. The pantyhose is important for its contribution to sustainability by reducing the amount of waste, as a result of implementations being used as an alternative to other materials and being suitable for improving the creativity of individuals.

Feelings that the user has against the place are considered as subheading not only in philosophy of place but also in other philosophies. It is much more powerful to establish this relationship especially on the basis of material-based philosophies, such as consumption culture. Fight Club was written by Chuck Palahniuk in 1996, and was filmed by David Fincher in 1999. The fact that the fighting club
has two different interpretations creates a coherence produced in two different branches of art, supported by the author as opposed to creating a situation of inconsistencies and negativity between them. The story of Fight Club tells of the change of a character trapped in the consumption culture that began when he was introduced to a character with an anarchy spirit
against this culture. In this story, the main character narrator and its places are presented with a critical point of view based
on consumer culture. The Fight Club book and film tell the story of modern times man’s reflection, life experiences at the
end and lives trapped within the culture of consumption in the eye of the creator of the story. The story is based on what
the narrator character conveys to the reader and the viewer. In the story, the main character narrator and the places are
presented with a critical point of view and based on consumer culture. This criticism is done while the narrator goes away
from the culture which he is a member of after meeting Tyler Durden, who is quite contrary to this culture. This is not a study on reading analysis of a book or a film or comparison between a film and a book, but a study on reading places and spaces. In the whole study, both common and
different places in the book and the film will be discussed together. In this sense, in two different art branches; through
literature and cinema; an integrated analysis will be conducted. With this approach, it is aimed to make a targeted reading of the places and the relationships. The aim of this study is to make a reading of the relationships of the Narrative character with places.

These inputs, which are described as tangible and intangible data, create the architectural characteristics of the settlements by shaping the architectural structures and the way in which these structures are associated with each other and the characteristics of that place. Today, two types of intervention needs come to the forefront, namely maintenance-repair and new construction activities in existing gaps, in traditional tissues that are faced with conservation problems due to the globalising life culture, current needs of modern life and accelerated technological development. The interventions to be carried out in this direction carry various risks and possibilities in terms of preserving and maintaining the architectural identity of traditional settlements. Based on the above query, this study focuses on a design experiment in Birgi settlement, which stands out as an important cultural tourism destination besides its traditional and rural characteristics. The study, carried out within the scope of DEU's Department of Architecture Department Restoration Master's Programme, 2018-2019 Spring Semester ARC5144 Restoration Project and Environmental Analysis course, conveys an experience on the completion of a local housing structure that has lost its building integrity with a modern approach, while at the same time, continuing, integrating with the architectural characteristics of the settlement, using today's technological possibilities, opens the question of belonging to the present.

Design studios must however facilitate learning about design, learning to design and learning to become an architect. The aim of this research was to study puzzle based open ended approach in an architectural design studio, using a mixed method qualitative and quantitative methods. Puzzles have been used in education to foster diverse thinking skills and self-motivation, they are used as effective instruments in higher education also and findings learnt through puzzle-based learning are applicable to solve problems in reality. The participants consisted of thirty-six students in the sixth semester architecture, who took part in the design task which was introduced as part of 'Architectural Design Studio VI' from January to May 2018. The results of the research proved that the puzzle-based openended approach in an architectural design studio improved students' performances.

philosophical intellectual system; as the academic woman while understanding art is unifying psychological elements with the
philosophical, intuitive, and spiritual elements. This research tackles the analysis of the concept of artistic intuition as a
compositional activity that reflects to all practical life fields but under specific humanitarian conditions that distinguish leading
women particularly in the specializations of art and design. Such analysis leads to being aware of all dilemmas related to the
artistic intuition and not only that related to artwork; but also, the intuition that becomes expressive in the philosophical
concept. It is not separate from the state of being rather than integrating in the form of a coordinated theory with the purpose
of understanding human in the different varied contexts that are in harmony with his intellect, philosophy, potentials, and
accumulated knowledge.

The purpose of the study is to test: by employing critical design method in design education to help the students learn, analyse and evaluate ideas and concepts in a critical manner. Also, it examines critical design as a method for questioning and improving design thinking among students that synergises perfectly with future design thinkers as well as their potential audience. A critical design workshop is conducted in Pearl Academy, Mumbai by the author to test and develop this way of thinking among design students. The workshop results are analysed under Bloom's taxonomy, which is a set of three hierarchical models used to classify educational learning objectives under analysis, synthesis and evaluation. An advantage of critical design, is that the method allows students to temporarily move away from problem solving, focusing on asking questions instead of providing answers .

Even the art world has taken advantage of the benefits of big data. One of the latest art forms, cinema, eventually started using analytics to predict their audience and their tastes through data mining. In addition to online platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime and many more, which act on a different basis, the industry itself evolved to a new phase that uses AI in pre-production, production, post-production and distribution phases. This paper researches software, such as Cinelytic, ScriptBook and LargoAI, and their working strategies to understand the role of directors and producers in the age of the digital era in film-making. The research aims to find answers to the capabilities of data-driven movie-making techniques and, accordingly, it makes a number of predictions about the role of human beings in the production of an artwork and analyses the role of the software. The research also investigates the pros and cons of using big data in the film-making industry.

For this purpose, traditional houses located on a main road known as Hollukluk Street in Sivas have been chosen as the study area and a method focusing on the concept of reference is applied within a studio setting. Consequently, design insights have been developed by analysing the study area on mass organisation, spatial organisation, frontal texture, tectonic fiction and compactness relations in terms of street texture. In this practice, it has been observed that the students tend to refer to the entrance axis as a design guide, use the horizontal and vertical lines of the mass and refer to the new design with reference to the tectonic components. The outputs of the studio are formed in terms of four design insights which are shared in the findings section. As a result, design information produced from context-defined practice was used as the constituent elements of the formal structure in the new building, and these also contributed to the improvement of the street silhouette within the existing built environment.

In everything that is visible or invisible in nature, there is a certain order and arrangement. While science and mathematics use evidence in the process of understanding nature, the desire to create beauty has formed art. As a problem question, do we need mathematics to create beauty? Galilei's expression that 'Nature's book is written with mathematics' can be a response to that question. Maths allows us to get to know nature better by enabling us to measure and calculate the formal features of objects in nature, their ways of functioning and thus to be able to create successful designs in the fields of architecture and arts. As a result, although mathematics and art are different fields, like mathematics, art abstracts and reinterprets nature. In this study, it has been aimed to analyse the effects of mathematics and developments in the field of mathematics on various branches of art and architecture in the 21st century. The works carried out in the branch of architecture and plastic arts where the relationship between mathematics and art are exemplified examine the literature on the relationship between mathematics and art as a method.

During the implementation process, each student created original three-dimensional works based on the original works of Piet Mondrian. They have converted two-dimensional paintings into three-dimensional works with utility elements such as cubes, rectangular prisms and bars, with model materials to be used in their chosen areas. In the last stage, they drew the top, front-back and right-left side facades of the three-dimensional works. As a result, the students experienced a process in which they gained self-confidence, were not afraid to experiment and achieved successful results without being within certain limits with their original design approaches in their first studio experience. It was seen that they grasped the importance of learning by seeing, creating alternative solutions with trial and error method, expressing visually and experiencing in studio work. They have obtained a useful studio experience in which they can draw, transfer what they see and develop their manual skills with the concepts of ratio, proportion, scale and perception with the studies done.

The goal of this training process is to introduce students to the design elements and principles and to carry out intellectual activities such as observation, perception, impression, experience, research, memory, evaluation, the emergence of creativity and the end with the product. The student is expected to gain competencies such as gaining a different perspective and freedom of expression by communicating with the field and using different materials with new meanings. During the lesson, the students get acquainted with a workplace (studio space) that they are not familiar with. It is aimed that students create original works with different materials and expression techniques, sometimes by doing individual and sometimes group works. It is the first time that the student encounters with the concept of design, observing the social-physical environment from a different perspective, discovering and developing the ability to produce forms. In this study, the experiences of two-dimensional and three-dimensional outcome products shared by the Biruni University Interior Architecture and Environmental Design Department's first-year students in the 'Basic Design I' course, which transfer the basic design elements and principles they learned during the semester to the final applications, are presented.

Embroidered clothing on the sculptures excavated and the narration that the daughter of Noah in Hebrew history wears an embroidered belt shows that this branch of art goes back to earlier times. Hand embroidery, which is the products of intelligence, skill and subtle wit, has reached the current time by preserving its value. Out of a great many embroidery techniques reaching large public masses, a technique called 'German Embroidery' was encountered in the researches carried out in the city of Kahramanmaras and its towns in the years 2013-2014. According to the information obtained from the source people in the research carried out in the city of Kahramanmaras, German Embroidery dating back to earlier times is not produced today; however, we are likely to find pillows, clothes and dresses embroidered with German Embroidery in houses. In the current paper, embroidery samples were determined in order to unveil this technique that was embroidered on any kind of cloth with a plain surface and it was aimed to make the embroidery alive and to promote it by analysing the way of embroidering.

Information design systems are considered as one of the significant areas of graphic design. Big data provides important information on data visualisation. While presenting this information, the value that the script adds to the design will be examined in this study. The choice of typefaces, leading and kerning in typography, type hierarchy, harmony, balance, unity, the contrast between the visual elements and typography are the critical components of data visualisation. 'Communication designers often err on the side of providing features that entertain and visually please audience's ability to receive or understand the message, in the hope that messages will be understood because they are associated with appealing features. Although designers often concentrate on visuals and aesthetics, at other times they hope to attract viewers by focusing clearly on valuable content. But too often both approaches impair the audience's ability to receive or understand the message'. In support of what Jacobson mentioned above in his book titled Information Design, this study aims to emphasise the undeniable importance of typography in data visualisation designed for informative purposes.

Peace has always been the object of purchase, even if art cannot afford to prevent the war. Violence and war have become commonplace for everyone, especially for children. Exile, immigration, refugee, human trafficking issues, which have become a problem of the world as a result of war and violence, await solutions. Institutions, states and global organisations are trying to take big economic and social measures towards these problems; however the unresolved problems of the endless wars, the issues of war continue to be the main item of the agenda. For instance, the arts of Otto Dix, Kathe Kollwitz or our current days artists Tammam Azzam and Banksy. This study emphasises the belief that the art has a unifying, healing power, and therefore Art for Peace will continue to be made.

The study, carried out within the scope of DEU's Department of Architecture Department Restoration Master's Programme, 2018-2019 Spring Semester ARC5144 Restoration Project and Environmental Analysis course, conveys an experience on the completion of a local housing structure that has lost its building integrity with a modern approach, while at the same time, continuing, integrating with the architectural characteristics of the settlement, using today's technological possibilities, opens the question of belonging to the present.

philosophical intellectual system; as the academic woman while understanding art is unifying psychological elements with the
philosophical, intuitive, and spiritual elements.
