A possible route for the process is proposed.

The enediol diesters were obtained from alkylbenzoyl chlorides, by the same method, using dry acetone/LiClO4.

with a thermometer, mechanical stirrer, condenser, baffle, and Nz inlet (vented through a safety ... more with a thermometer, mechanical stirrer, condenser, baffle, and Nz inlet (vented through a safety bubbler) was charged with 30 mmol (10.5 g) of 2, followed by the addition of 400 mL of 30% HzSOI. The suspension was heated to 107 "C (reflux) with rapid stirring until the mixture became a homogeneous orange solution (-1 h). Then 1.0 g of SG Extra charcoal was added, and the mixture was heated at reflux for 15 min, filtered over Celite, and then cooled to room temperature, whereupon the organic product was extracted into CHzClz (3 X 100 mL). This CHzClz solution was extracted first with 10% Na2C03 solution (2 X 25 mL) and then with HzO (2 x 25 mL) and dried over KzC03. The dried solution was placed in a 500-mL distillation flask with 100 mL of hexane. Atmospheric distillation of-350 mL of solvent, followed by cooling to 0 "C, produced crude solid TMBA. The crude solid was dissolved in boding hexane. Insolubles, 0.5 g, were filtered and identified as the starting material 2 (accounting for-5% of 2). The filtered hexane solution was cooled, producing 5.6 g (95% yield) of white TMBA, mp 75-77 OC, which was spectroscopically identical with an authentic sample of commercially available material from the Monsanto Co. Inc.

Cathodic reduction of 2-bromo-nitropropane in aprotic medium in the presence of dimethyl acetylen... more Cathodic reduction of 2-bromo-nitropropane in aprotic medium in the presence of dimethyl acetylene dicarboxylate led to 5,5-dimethyl-2,3,4-trimethoxycarbonyl-S-hydropyrro~e and dimethyl 2-(lnitroisopropyl)-2-butenedioate. In the presence of methyl propiolate a mixture of 2-nitropropane, 2,3-dimethyl-2,3-dinitrobutane, methyl (E)-4-methyl-4-nitro-2-pentenoate and an organomercurial compound was obtained.

Hexakis(dimethylamino)benzene is electrochemically oxidized to species with oxidation states high... more Hexakis(dimethylamino)benzene is electrochemically oxidized to species with oxidation states higher than that of a tetracation. The reaction is followed by cyclic voltammetry. A mechanistic scheme of the electrode reaction mechanism is proposed. Computer simulations of cyclic voltammograms at scan rates between 0.02 and 50 V s y1 allow the estimation of reaction parameters. A comparison of the potentials for the redox steps with data by other authors supports a re-interpretation of their results.

The service-learning methodology combines active learning processes and community service. This s... more The service-learning methodology combines active learning processes and community service. This service-learning experience was performed using an interdisciplinary and cross plan. The teachers made a horizontal coordination in the courses, and a vertical coordination in subjects of the Degrees involved. This allowed working together in the students’ curricular training process. It also permitted covering various specific skills, as corresponds to the different subjects, whilst optimizing the students’ workload. The service addressed the problem of drug-facilitated sexual assaults (DFSA) in the youth leisure nightlife. DFSA is the temporary disability of a person caused by a decrease in her/his volitional and cognitive abilities due to the voluntary or involuntary consumption of a psychoactive substance. An active learning about the problem was encouraged in the classroom, focused on recognizing myths, attitudes, and risk situations. The service-learning actions to the community was...

ABSTRACT Ternary mutual diffusion coefficients measured by the Taylor dispersion method are repor... more ABSTRACT Ternary mutual diffusion coefficients measured by the Taylor dispersion method are reported for aqueous solutions of CaCl2−caffeine at carrier concentrations from (0.0025 to 0.0500) mol·dm−3 for each solute, respectively. The results are compared with those obtained for the binary systems H2O−CaCl2 and H2O−caffeine, also reported here. From these data, it is possible to make conclusions about the influence of the caffeine solutes in the diffusion of calcium chloride and to contribute to a better understanding of the structure of this system.
