Negative and Dual Channel TITO converters are also presented. In steady state one of the PCTITO outputs is positive while the other is negative. Although the outputs could be regulated to provide dif-ferent absolute values, an interesting application of the new converters is to provide symmetrical outputs (i.e., 15 V) to supply balanced loads. Since the absolute value of the outputs could be greater or smaller than the input voltage, the PCTITO con-verter will be suitable for present 14 V (from 9 to 16 V) or for future 42 V (from 30 to 50 V) automotive voltage distribution buses. To regulate the outputs, two in-phase equal-switching frequency PWM-based multivariable control loops have been designed. The closed-loop system must provide low audiosusceptibility and good lin...

Since its release in early 1970’s SPICE has been serving the professional community in developing, design and production of different kind of electric and electronic circuits. It has been also very useful in educational purposes. SPICE finds its roots in CANCER (Computer Analysis of Nonlinear Circuits, Excluding Radiation) developed as a student project by Laurence Nagel and his colleagues under the supervision of Prof. Ron Rohrer at the University of California at Berkeley, and is basic part of Dr. Nagel’s PhD Dissertation where the improved version (SPICE2) was described in details. Since its appearance SPICE has been improved many times and today it is available for mainframes, as well as for PCs with different operating systems. In the paper a list of different versions is given. Happy birthday SPICE. Keywordselectronics circuits; modeling; program; simulation; ЅР...

At present, about 70% of electric power is consumed by the process of power electronic equipments, and it is expected to grow up in the future. This paper is dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the thyristor. The first part of the paper is dealing with the history and the second with the evolution from SCR to IGCT and ETO and the main characteristics of several members of the thyristor family.

Beside the historical facts about the evolution of IEEE from AIEE and IRE and the meaning of its organization logo, and on the IEEE today, the paper concentrates on the history of the IEEE Republic of Macedonia Section. Firstly, an overview of friendly separation and birth of new sections in the former Yugoslavia region, as well as their current state is given. The formation process of the IEEE Republic of Macedonia Section has been described. Finally, the historical facts about the Section activities in the past 20 years devoted to the benefit of the profession, as well as its current status are presented.

Depending on its internal source resistance it can achieve triode or pentode like output characteristics. The purpose of this work is to present a simple model suitable for computer analysis and simulation of circuits containing SITs in triode-like mode of operation. The model is based on the SITs static and dynamic behaviour, and not on the physical structure and characteristics of the device. A possible method for extraction of the model parameters is proposed. The simulated static and frequency characteristics correspond well to the experimental results available from the references. The model has passed all performed tests. Although the proposed model is not yet an ideal solution it will help to start simulating circuits containing the static induction transistors for different applications. Keywords—Static induction transistor (SIT); static characteristics; SPICE; modeling; par...

It recounts the key historical moments leading up to the invention of the first semiconductor active component in 1947. The meaning of the blend "transistor" is explained using the memorandum issued by Bell Telephone Laboratories. Certain problems appeared in the engineering phase of the transistor development and the new components obtained as a result of this research are reviewed. The impact of this invention on the development of power electronics is being emphasized. Finally, the possibility that the most important invention of the 20 th century has been conceived not once but twice is discussed.

A relatively new approach to establishing the authenticity of digital, as well as analog, audio recordings is the method of Electrical Network Frequency (ENF) analysis. The method is based on tracking the variations of the ENF in the mains hum present in the questioned recording, and comparing the track to a database of referent ENF recordings made directly from the power grid in the time period in question. The paper proposes one such system, designed to log the ENF track in high quality directly from the power lines. The signal conditioning modules provide several functions, such as: attenuation, galvanic isolation, filtering, A/D conversion etc. In this paper, directions for proper dimensioning of the signal conditioning modules are presented. Additionally, a prototype realization of a signal conditioning circuit and its characteristics are given. The power line signal recording for the purpose of audio authentication was realized by using a LabVIEW based virtual instrument.

The mathematical model, the block diagram of the control circuit, and the flowchart of the program based on the cosine wave crossing pulse timing method modified by regular sampling are presented. The fan is driven by medium voltage wound rotor induction motor and the air flow is controlled by a dumper. The drive works in steady state regimes for a long period and the possible energy saving depends on the dumper openness. For energy saving analysis, air flow and dumper pressure were measured and proper speed control is defined. The possible usage of existing motor and suitable medium voltage inverter, as well as, replacement with low voltage drives is analysed. Analysis is done taking into account the installation cabling and payback period of the equipment. At the end a final solution is proposed.

It was the base component for power electronics converters during 1960s and early 1970s. What is the situation today? Is thyristor still dominant power electronics component? Is the development of thyristor according to former expectations? The answers are given through dealing with evolution of thyristor, comparison between thyristors and transistors and application in power converters for different usage. This paper is dedicated to the 50-th anniversary of the thyristor.
