In this paper, the different reliability models are developed for individual characteristic parameter such as DGA analysis, insulation resistance, power factor, oil leakage, controland protection problem, etc. The physics – experimental or physics – statistics based life models will be developed and improved on the basis of the data collection which describes the electrical-, thermal-, and mechanical aging behaviours of equipment with individual parameter, depending on the statistical surveys on failure. Keywords-circuit breaker; failure data; failure prediction; life management; statistical analysis; transformer

The method has been tested in the laboratory as well as on a transformer in a test bay using an automated partial discharge evaluation based on the comparison of quasi-simultaneously detected PD patterns at different decoupling points. Therefore a multiple sensor system is placed on the surface of the transformer coil, thus PD signals can be measured at various sites along the winding before they are processed and compared. The described technique enables, besides a localization of the PD source, a determination of the apparent charge, which can be more accurate than conventional narrowband PD measurements via a quadripole in parallel. A discussion of the results leads therefore to a proposal about improvements concerning the calibration for actual PD routine tests on dry type transformers

Research paper thumbnail of Time Optimization of Dielectric Response Measurements

Determination of moisture in paper and pressboard of HV apparatus insulation is a feature of diel... more Determination of moisture in paper and pressboard of HV apparatus insulation is a feature of dielectric response method. Dielectric spectroscopy in frequency (FDS) and in time (PDC and RVM) domain are forms of dielectric response measurements. However one disadvantage of this method is the time consuming procedure. It takes several hours and shorter procedures give information only with lower accuracy. In this paper is shown that the transformation of data from time domain gives frequency domain data with sufficient accuracy in the low frequency range. Hamon has shown that with the data of polarization current at a time t the dielectric loss at a frequency f=0.1/t can be calculated. This means data of 1000s represent data of 0.1mHz. The proposed measurements of dielectric response are performed from 1kHz to 10mHz with FDS method and from 1s to 1000s with PDC method. This saves time of dielectric measurements and gives reliable data for the determination of the moisture content of so...

Traditional frequency response analysis (FRA) techniques have been limited in their application to the comparison of transfer function fingerprints obtained at different times or from identical units. A new method of estimating the transfer function has been developed that uses Spectral Density Estimate building blocks. Transfer function estimates are calculated using specially developed weighting and averaging techniques applied in the frequency domain, following the application of a series of ten impulse measurements per winding configuration. The final transfer function estimates are then compared across phases, and the OWA is calculated for windings showing the greatest asymmetry. Based on typical phase...

The measurements were carried out with impulse currents in the time domain. The used impulse shape is the lightning current impulse A according to the SAE standard. This current impulse generates a high stress on the test object and it requires a high technical expenditure at rated current amplitude. Therefore the measurements were carried out a reduced amplitude, because the linearity has been checked and confirmed at former tests. The measurement of the induced voltages occurs on different wires, typical for aircraft, which were laid on different routes The measurements have shown that the voltage of unscreened wires reaches very high values. The induced part can be roughly divided in two components. The inductive component is proportional to the derivative of the impulse current. The ...

The investigation and comparison were made by dielectric measurements with a flat pressboard with a thickness of 0.5 mm and 3 mm as a sample. Additionally wraps with a layer thickness of 6.25 mm, made from kraft paper in cylinders with a thickness of 0.15 mm and an aluminum cylinder as a rack, were investigated. Because of the different geometric shapes of the samples the investigations were made with two different types of electrode assemblies. The measurement of the dielectric dissipation factor was performed with the method of Frequency Domain Spectroscopy (FDS) as well as with the Polarization and Depolarization Current (PDC). The obtained results show that both oils have a similar behavior of the dissipation factor for different samples and temperatures and so they show a similar impregnation behavior. Therefore, it could be considered that the diagnostic methods for dielectric measurements could be also applied to the new GTL based oil.

It is most common in applications with high electric field strength, such as oil impregnated cables and capacitors. Silicone fluids are known to form solid siloxanes under heavy partial discharge (PD) stress, but for ester fluids few reports of solidification exist. The shape of single PD pulses can be gathered with this method of measurement in time domain, if the signal is sampled and digitized with sufficient sampling frequency and resolution. There is a lot of information in these single PD pulses, which can be used for evaluation diagnosis and monitoring of high voltage devices. As new monitoring systems based on wide-band partial discharge measurements are under development by many researchers and specialists a common format for data processing particularly for database systems is necessary. In this contribution a novel format for a database system for PD monitoring and evaluation systems is suggested. It is shown, that saving special features of single PD pulses not only causes a reduction of the huge amount of data to a limited value but also, that the real useful information of PD pulses can be reconstructed easily. A PD monitoring system operating based on this database format is introduced, as well as the advantages of this format for data reduction are also discussed.
