The critical-to-quality (CTQ) characteristic considered in the study was the cable diameter and the design effort was to reduce the possibilities of having cables with inconsistent dimensions. Taguchi Orthogonal Array Design L16 (4˄2) was used to achieve the optimum parameter settings after statistically investigating the assumed correlations between the process parameters in relation to cable dimension. Thereafter, an appropriate engineering tolerance interval for the improved process was designed to tighten the existing tolerance of the process from T±0.185 to T±0.032, thus reducing the engineering tolerance by 82.7% from the initial tolerance limit. After the process improvement, the Taguchi loss function approach was used to estimate cost attributed to deviations. The loss function estimation result has shown that the cost attributed to cable diameter deviations from...

It is an essential requirement by every field of intellectual endeavour and human development to cope with the challenges of life. It is also described as the queen and servant of all school subjects, since it cuts across the school curricula (Fajemidagba, 1986; and Akpan, 1987). Mathematics as a school subject affects all aspects of human life at different degrees. For instance, mathematics is relevant in economics, political, geographical, scientific and technological aspects of man because it centered on the use of numbers which is an integral component of every aspect of knowledge. Other areas where the use of numbers is predominant include: statistics, accounts, arithmetic, engineering, and so on. For example the earliest civilization of mankind came through mathematical manipulations through the use of numbers. Mathematics is seen as the language used to describe the problems arising in most branches of science and technology. It is a subject that is related to other school subjects in areas like number and numeration, variation, graphs, fractions, logarithms and indices, algebraic processes, solution of equation and also in area and volume. Mathematics is a key element in engineering studies and serves as language of expressing physical, chemical and engineering laws (Sazhin, 1998

MSDs occur to the muscles, nerves, joints, ligaments, tendons, arms, shoulders, and neck etc. Most work-related MSDs develop over time and are caused either by the work itself or by the employees' working environment. Other aggravating factors include poor postures, an improperly designed workstation, poor tool design, and work stress. MSDs are also referred to as occupational overuse disorders, cumulative trauma disorders, and repetitive stress injuries. Musculoskeletal disorders can also occur in the patients' life outside work through some sports like-tennis (elbow); music-guitar playing. These external work events can be exacerbated by their daily profession. Typically, MSDs critically affect the back, neck, shoulders and upper limbs; however, they also affect the lower limbs.

Engineering mathematics is a prerequisite for all engineering discipline. It equips the student with problemsolving skills and cognitive ability needed for higher thinking. The research was conducted to investigate and critically analyze the causes of the recent poor performance of engineering students in the past four academic sessions. Descriptive and Correlation research design were used. The study was designed to capture the entire population of students and some lecturers using questionnaires, interviews, work study, work sampling, and analysis of past results using correlation and regression analysis, chi-square and ANOVA. The findings revealed that students have positive attitude towards engineering mathematics. Nevertheless, poor learning environment and present coordination are major factors contributing to poor performance of students in engineering mathematics. Splitting the lecture schedule into two or more groups, and fair assessment and marking of examination scripts are highly recommended.
