This article describes the process of, and considerations taken when Virtual Learning Materials w... more This article describes the process of, and considerations taken when Virtual Learning Materials were developed for an international study in Comparative Social Work arranged by the VIRCLASS project. The steps taken and the elements included in the Virtual Book-A Guide to Social Work in Europe are presented in details to inform others who are planning to make virtual learning materials. Students from 11 countries in Europe participated, and their reception of this material and learning outcomes from using it are analysed and presented. Furthermore; the article discuss how the learning material contributes to students' learning, how a common understanding of practice enhances knowledge-building and in what way audiovisual learning material can contribute to good learning in e-learning courses. The results are discussed in relation to theories about composite texts and community of inquiry, and outlines some challenges for e-teachers' competences.

ABSTRACT This chapter focuses on participation and learning in an online course in community work... more ABSTRACT This chapter focuses on participation and learning in an online course in community work, and on how students and teachers co-construct knowledge. As part of the students’ work and learning process, a virtual community case was used to help them understand and relate theories to community work practice and project development. A strong emphasis was placed on student activities and participation both in the mapping of the ’virtual community’ and in developing strategies for initiating projects and involving people. The students’ experiences of being part of a virtual classroom, designed to stimulate participation, democracy and empowerment among the participants, are examined. By analysing the students’ learning process through the community workers’ roles as presented by Tesoriero (2010) we outline the students’ opportunities to practise the different roles they need to master as community workers, and the way this has been facilitated by the teachers’ guidance and the course structure.

The initial question was: ‘To what extent is ‘Co-construction of knowledge’ a beneficial concept to describe the participatory teaching and learning processes connected to community work?’ Papers describing collaborative social learning in virtual environments where reviewed. The review helped us to clarify ontological and epistemological issues related to teachers’ on-line Co-construction of knowledge in their process of developing a community work course.

Representanter fra de ulike miljoene ved hogskolens tre avdelinger ble utfordret til a belyse ulike tilnaerminger til laering. FoU-gruppen pa tvers av avdelinger sokte og ble tildelt midler til sitt prosjekt om laering i et kompetanseperspektiv. Vi valgte a ta utgangspunkt i kompetansebegrepet fordi begrepet rommer bade et laeringsperspektiv av teoretisk art og et perspektiv der praksis og erfaring er viktig. Personlige forutsetninger, kunnskaper, ferdigheter, holdninger, erfaringsbasert innsikt og bruk av andres kompetanse er viktige elementer i kompetansebegrepet. Utfordringer for alle profesjonsutdanningene er a bygge bro mellom en teoretisk opplaering og praksis i et profesjonsfelt. Dieser Beitrag konzentriert sich auf die internationale Zusammenarbeit, die im Hinblick auf die E... more Dieser Beitrag konzentriert sich auf die internationale Zusammenarbeit, die im Hinblick auf die Entwicklung von virtuellen Lehrveranstaltungen in der vergleichenden Sozialen Arbeit seit dem Jahr 2004 stattgefunden hat. Von zentraler Bedeutung erwiesen sich in diesem Zusammenhang die Steigerung der E-Learning-Kompetenzen von Dozenten/-innen und Studierenden sowie die Zusammenarbeit in der Lehrplanentwicklung und die Erstellung von virtuellen Lernmaterialien. Aufgezeigt werden im Beitrag auch die besonderen Chancen von virtuellem Austausch und die moglichen Ertrage fur Studierende und Lehrende. Die durch VIRCLASS gesammelten Erfahrungen fuhrten ab 2008 zu einem neuen Projekt, welches darauf abzielt, einen virtuellen Campus fur die Soziale Arbeit in Europa zu schaffen und neue Kurse zu entwickeln. Heute werden von der Vereinigung Online-Kurse fur eine internationale Gruppe von Studierenden angeboten.
