In this thesis, I argue that the modern view on tattooing as a new trend and its former associati... more In this thesis, I argue that the modern view on tattooing as a new trend and its former association with antisocial people is an old trope, in many ways constructed by the newspapers. Tattooing is a practice with a long and multifaceted history. From Ötzi the iceman to the presumed tattoo-boom or tattoo-renaissance in the late twentieth century, it has waxed and waned in popularity but never fully got out of sight. The inhabitants of Sweden's capital city Stockholm are said to be the world's most tattooed people. The Swedish word for tattoo: tatuering, was introduced in 1799 in an article about natives in the South Pacific. For about half a century, the newspapers mostly wrote about tattooing as a native practice in faraway countries. But, as far back as 1869, the Swedish newspapers started to report on a more western-centered tattoo interest. Mit dem Euromaidan 2013/2014 und der darauffolgenden Krimkrise gerieten die russisch-ukrainischen... more Mit dem Euromaidan 2013/2014 und der darauffolgenden Krimkrise gerieten die russisch-ukrainischen Beziehungen in den Fokus der Weltöffentlichkeit. Kaum ein anderes Thema hat insbesondere die europäische Öffentlichkeit in den letzten Jahren so polarisiert wie dieser Konflikt, der die wechselseitige Wahrnehmung Russlands und der Ukraine auf lange Zeit prägen bzw. belasten wird. Dafür spricht auch der vorläufige Höhepunkt dieses Konflikts, die seit 2021 erfolgende massive Stationierungen russischer Truppen an der ukrainischen Grenze, die einen Krieg zwischen den einstigen selbsterklärten Brudervölkern plötzlich real erscheinen lässt. Gegenstand dieser linguistischen Untersuchung ist damit ein hochaktuelles und relevantes, aber auch stark polarisierendes Thema: Das Ukrainebild in der russischen Presseberichterstattung kurz vor und während des Ukrainekonflikts 2013/2014. PurposeThe successful implementation of quality management in organizations is dependent on peopl... more PurposeThe successful implementation of quality management in organizations is dependent on people, particularly leaders. It seems as if leaders' affective states (attitudes and commitment) in the military were connected to their capability to inspire people and a group (corps training unit) to achieve a common goal. The research reported in this article was aimed at examining officers in corps training units' attitudes towards, and commitment to quality management in training in the South African Army.Design/methodology/approachFocus group interviews were conducted with a sample of 49 officers on various levels (senior, junior and warrant officers) at six South African Army corps training units.FindingsThe findings indicate that the attitudes of leaders played a significant role to ensure that quality management of training is conducted effectively. Participants experienced that leaders in the South African Army were mostly responsible for the negative attitudes of officers...

Sofern das Vorstandsmitglied als Gegenleistung für die Abtretung des Deckungsanspruchs eine verbindliche Zusage der Nichtgeltendmachung verlangt, der Aufsichtsrat eine solche wegen § 93 Abs. 4 Satz 3 AktG aber nicht geben kann oder will, besteht die Möglichkeit, die Abtretung des Deckungsanspruchs auflösend zu bedingen auf den Fall, dass die Gesellschaft doch gegen das Vorstandsmitglied vorgeht. Eine solche auflösend bedingte Abtretung trägt den Interessen des Vorstandsmitglieds Rechnung, ohne vom Anwendungsbereich des § 93 Abs. 4 Satz 3 AktG erfasst zu sein. Sie kommt allerdings nur dann in Betracht, wenn der Aufsichtsrat es nach den vom BGH aufgestellten ARAG/Garmenbeck-Grundsätzen wenigstens im Zeitpunkt der Abtretung pflichtgemäß unterlassen darf, den Haftungsanspruch gegen das Vorstandsmitglied geltend zu machen.

Research indicates that those employed in the education sector are especially susceptible to psyc... more Research indicates that those employed in the education sector are especially susceptible to psychological violence. This study aimed to determine the nature, more specifically the prevalence, severity and perpetrators of psychological violence at a multi-campus South African Further Education and Training (FET) College. A Psychological Violence Scale was developed and distributed to the study population of 262 staff members at six campuses and Corporate Centre of an FET College; 174 questionnaires were completed and returned. Findings indicated that staff members experienced psychological violence as prevalent, severe and mostly from superiors.

Corporate Trainers experience many organizational challenges that require new skills. This qualit... more Corporate Trainers experience many organizational challenges that require new skills. This qualitative study sought to determine the challenges faced by South African Education Training and Development university students employed as trainers in corporate roles. Findings suggest that trainers require contextual and generic soft skills to meet the requirements of their jobs and that the term trainer embraces a variety of roles of different focus and different status. While there appear to be a common set of problems facing trainers irrespective of location, the interventionist skills and employment policies of the South African government have an important influence on activity in the organization.

Venous thromboembolism is an important pathological entity that causes high morbidity due either ... more Venous thromboembolism is an important pathological entity that causes high morbidity due either to the disease or its complications. The incidence in the world ranges between 1:100 in adults and 1:100,000 in children. Risk factors for the disease include genetic as well as environmental factors. Among them, factor V Leiden (G1691A), prothrombin (G20210A) and MTHFR C677T and A1298C (which until recently were considered risk factors), have been widely studied given their impact in the world. This review presents in a clear and concise way what a thrombous is and how it is formed; how a clot is able to produce thromboembolic disease; what are the main nosological entities involved, and their main genetic causes. The most epidemiologically important genetic alterations and studies conducted in Colombia will be emphasized.
