It may cause postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV). We researched the relationship between gastric decompression (GD) and severity of PONV in ear, nose, and throat (ENT) surgery. 137 patients who have been into ENT surgery were included in the study. In Group I ( = 70), patients received GD after surgery before extubation; patients in Group II ( = 67) did not receive GD. In postoperative 2nd, 4th, 8th, and 12th hours, the number and ratio of patients demonstrating PONV were detected to be significantly more in Group II as compared to Group I. PONV was also significantly more severe in Group II as compared to Group I. In Group I, the PONV ratio in the 2nd hour was significantly more for those whose amounts of stomach content aspired were more than 10 mL as compared to those whose stomach content aspired was less than 10 mL. In the 4th, 8th, and 24th hours, there is no statistically significant difference b...

On the other hand, there is evidence that rivastigmine can attenuate or antagonize the cognitive dysfunctions caused by anesthetic agents. The aims of this study were to determine the effect of repeated sevoflurane exposure on spatial learning and memory (SLM) in weanling rats and to assess whether rivastigmine provides protection against the neurotoxic effects of sevoflurane at this early developmental stage. Methods: Thirty-two weanling rats were randomly divided into four equal groups: sevoflurane (S: 2% sevoflurane for 2 hours), sevoflurane + rivastigmine (SR: 2% sevoflurane and 2 mg/kg rivastigmine), rivastigmine (R: 2 mg/kg), and control (C: 100% oxygen for 2 hours). Rats were treated four times over 10 days. Four days after the last treatment, the rats were subjected to a Morris water maze test protocol to examine SLM. Results: The escape latencies of all groups gradually decreased day by day during the training trials performed to evaluate spatial learning (ρ<0.05). Group R showed more improvement than other groups as the rats in this group learned significantly more slowly on the first and second days of the training trials but reached the same levels as Group S and Group SR on the third and last days (ρ<0.05). In the probe trial to evaluate spatial memory, no significant difference was found among the groups for time spent in the 'platform' quadrant (ρ>0.05). Conclusion: Sevoflurane negatively affects learning in weanling rat pups but has no detrimental effect on spatial memory. On the other hand, it can be claimed that sevoflurane offsets the memory-sparing effects of rivastigmine.

The most affected regions are the lungs and the gastrointestinal system. These cases are important for their perioperative respiratory complications. We present an anesthesia method conducted on a 16-year-old female CF case receiving general anesthesia.

The three main symptoms of the syndrome are fetal face appearance, genital hypoplasia, and gingival hyperplasia. Fifteen percent of the cases have congenital heart defects. Short neck, large tongue, and airway problems due to a structural disorder of the face may be observed. In this paper, we present our anesthesia practice in a case that had been diagnosed with RS.

In the pre-anesthetic examination the thyromental distance, sternomental distance, interincisor distance, neck circumference, modified Mallampati scores, and Wilson risk scores were measured. An otolaryngologist conducted an indirect laryngoscopic assessment. Direct laryngoscopic profiles were classified according to their Cormack-Lehane scores. Forty patients underwent microlaryngeal surgery. Their mean ages, neck circumferences, Cormack-Lehane scores of the patients who had intubation difficulties were statistically significantly higher than those who did not have intubation difficulties (p &amp;lt; 0.05). The significant differences between the indirect laryngoscopic assessment distributions of patients who either had or did not have intubation difficulty were assessed (p &amp;lt; 0.05). Indirect laryngoscopic assessment is a simple and valuable technique that can be used for the diagnosis of difficult intubation in patients who are undergoing microlaryngeal surgery.

We have enrolled into this study 630 patients who were undergoing elective operations with spinal anesthesia and randomized them to Group A (stylet replacement before needle removal) and Group B (needle removal without stylet replacement). These patients were observed for the duration of 24 hours in the hospital and they were checked for PDPH on the 3rd and the 7th day of the study. Overall, the PDPH incidence was at 10.8% (68 patients). Thirty-three of these patients (10.5%) who were in Group A (stylet replacement before needle removal) and the other 35 patients (11.1%) who were in Group B (needle removal without stylet replacement) experienced PDPH. There was no significant difference between the two groups with respect to the PDPH. In contrary to the diagnostic lumbar puncture, reinsertion of the stylet after spinal anesthesia with 25-gauge Quincke needles does not reduce the incidence of PDPH.

Although general anesthesia is the only preferred approach for breast surgery, there have been many clinical trials about breast surgery that has been achieved with regional anesthesia techniques. It is known that regional anesthesia application decreases the preoperative stress, postoperative morbidity and mortality. Additionally, this application positively affects the early start of feeding and mobilization. Regional anesthesia techniques like high thoracic epidural anesthesia, cervical epidural anesthesia and paravertebral block have been applied successfully in mastectomy operations. Combined thoracic epidural anesthesia-interscalene block technique may also be a good alternative to general or cervical, high thoracic epidural anesthesia. We aimed herein to present a case who underwent successful mastectomy and axillary dissection under combined thoracic epidural anesthesia-interscalene block.
