Methodology Ten patients with periodontitis stage II grade B were divided into two groups; Group 1 included 5 non-diabetes mellitus patients with periodontitis, and Group 2 included 5 type2 diabetes mellitus patients with periodontitis. A 13 mW low-level laser was used in a continuous wave and non-contact mode as an adjunct to scaling and root planning (SRP) in a split-mouth study design “OPTODAN” (Scientific Development and Production Center, Saratov, Russia). The clinical parameters; plaque and gingival index, probing depth, and relative clinical attachment level of the test and control sides of both groups were analyzed at baseline and 1-month post-therapy. Visual analogue scale was used to determine patient discomfort intraopera...

Knowledge of regional occurrence and prevalence of dental anomalies is important for proper diagnosis and patient management. Aims: This study was intended to determine the prevalence of developmental dental defects in patients from a teaching hospital in the United Arab Emirates. Settings and Design: A retrospective study was performed using 2925 radiographs from the database of the radiology department at RAK College of Dental Sciences. Subjects and Methods: Panoramic radiographs of 400 patients between 17 and 60 years of age were presented anomalies in teeth number, shape, size, and position. The patient general information, type of anomaly, and affected tooth was determined. Statistical Analysis: Data were summarized and analyzed using nonparametric tests. P < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: The prevalence of developmental dental defects was 14.7% (n = 400) out of which 170 cases were ...

As the age advanced several medical problems and diseases occurs, which have an underlying cause as nutritional aspects and along with that patients socioeconomic status and his dietary habits have a profound influence on their dietary selection. Aim: This research is to summarize the earlier investigations on the association between food intake and dental status in geriatric patients. Study Design: Cross sectional Study by clinical Data Collection. Place and Duration of Study: Six months in RAK College of Dental Sciences outpatient Clinic. Methodology: The information analysis was taken from geriatric patients from RAK outpatient clinic. The sampling methods of the patients are categorized by the gender, and health status, and habits for each gender. The numbers of the patients are approximately 40 patients, 20 male, and 20 female. The patients from both genders are also categorized based on habits, and health issues...

Identification and treatment of stressed individuals are necessary during clinical training. Aims: The purpose of this study was to assess and correlate the perceived stress levels and work load observed in dental students. Subjects and Methods: Students were assessed using the Perceived Stress Scale and Effort-Reward Imbalance questionnaires to evaluate the level of general stress and academic-related work load/satisfaction, respectively. Data was collected before, during and after examinations in students from the third to fifth year of the BDS programme. Results: The perceived stress was correlated primarily with student's effort and commitment, and increased with academic progression. Changes in blood pressure or body temperature did not correlate with stress in a consistent manner. Perceived stress was significantly higher during examination periods while the effort-reward index was higher in students before or after examinations. Few students were classified as being stressed or dissatisfied significantly more than what was considered normal for their peers. Conclusions: Stress experienced by dentistry students may be greatly influenced by their effort and commitment. The level of stress experienced may not be severe enough to produce a physical response that may affect overall health; however, some students may experience periods of stress or dissatisfaction that are significantly higher than the norm and may be at risk of burnout. The stress scores and effort-reward indexes had a tendency to increase with academic progression and with demanding academic periods.

RAU are painful ulcerations in the oral cavity that can cause bad breath and typically cause craters in the mouth. They are the most common type of lesions found in the oral cavity. The etiological involves in genetics, vitamin deficiencies, trauma, immune dysfunction and stress. This study was to explore the related risk factors of recurrent aphthous ulceration among dental college students. Material and Methods: We conducted a questionnaire survey among 80 students from the Ras Al Khaimah College of Dental Sciences (RAKCODS). The information collected includes report the prevalence, knowledge, experience and risk factors of aphthous ulcer in a sample of RAKCODS students. Results: The overall prevalence of RAU is 33 (41.25%) students reported of ever experiencing of RAU, however 47 (58.75%) students reported of never having had any experience. Conclusion: According to the results, there are many predispo...

The subtle point of negotiation is to understand to what extent the use of CBCT over periapical can have a positive influence on initial radiographic diagnosis in different dental specialties in last recent researches. This article research was achieved by identifying which modality is superior in diagnostic accuracy and outlining what can affect the efficacy of CBCT and PA radiography in the assessment of early periapical lesions, vertical root fractures and bone defects respectively. Material and Methods: A retrospective study was conducted with the use of two different electronic databases were search between years 2006–2017, PubMed Central® (PMC), and ProQuest, with a strict inclusion and exclusion criteria. Search was limited to English and articles that compared CBCT to PA radiography with the inclusion ...

The study was carried out to assess oral health knowledge and practices, attitudes as well as their oral hygiene habits among university students in the UAE. Method: A structured and revised questionnaire was distributed to 300 university students that were randomly sampled from the selected universities of the UAE. The questionnaires were answered anonymously by the students and paper consisted of questions to study and assess the prevalence of oral diseases amongst these students. The answers were then subjected to statistical analysis to determine if there is a significant correlation between oral health knowledge and attitude. Results: Data showed a positive correlation with a Pearson coefficient value of 0.4 given at a positive gradient when plotted as a linear graph. The students had good knowledge on the basic oral health measures but still students h...
