Research paper thumbnail of Iraqi Personality in Light of Ali Al-Wardi’s Works: A Critical Review

Al-Wardi was the main person who established the first department of sociology in Iraq and the spiritual father or the real father of sociology in the country. He wrote prestigious works about the Iraqi society including some hypotheses focusing on the Iraqi personality, such as the dual personality and social dissonance. These findings and hypotheses are not above criticism of course. The method we depend on here is the content analysis methodology. The paper consists of seven parts; part one is the introduction which includes a short glimpse on the subject and Al-Wardi's methodology. Part two deals with Al-Wardi and studying Iraqi personality. Part three, discusses the dual personality, and part four, the social dissonance. Part five, exposures tackling the problem where Al-Wardi suggests some points. Part six deals with the discussion. Finally, there is a conclusion under the part seven.

It opens with an introduction to sociology in Iraq past and present, followed by an assessment of the sociological approach of Al Wardi, his hypotheses including his theories on the ‘ambivalent personality’ exemplified in Iraq, which was later generalized to the Arab personality more broadly, and his sociological critiques. It was in these areas that Al Wardi became one of the leading liberal thinkers in the Arab world and his books continue to be bestsellers to this day. The paper will also posit the direct reasons for the success of his scientific contribution and the popularity of his premises and arguments. To achieve these objectives, it examines the most lasting aspects of his research, Al Wardi's own published works and those written about his contribution, including books, papers and articles which either glori...

Every country may have one or more form(s) of conflict, between its north and south. This conflict is for military, political, cultural, social, economic or other reasons. In addition, there is a (north-south) conflict at the global level (despite the fact that some people consider it an imaginary conflict). represented in the existence of two global blocs that fight for diplomatic, political, economic reasons and for gaining positions in international organizations. There are many examples of the north-south conflict. It is not necessary that the north means the geographic north and the south means the geographic south. The conflict may be centric for example. Then, other territories may follow it, or it may be generalized as a result of being compared with its opponent.
