The study of the radiation dose received by the patient during X-ray examination is important to reduce the risks of exposures. The aim of the current work is to assess patient radiation doses in routine X-ray examinations in Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe, Nigeria. We estimated the entrance skin dose received by patients undergoing routine X-ray examinations for 115 patients in eight types of X-ray examinations. X-ray factors such as mAs and kVp were recorded with focus to skin distance. And we used it in mathematical model to calculate the entrance skin dose. The mean entrance skin dose for examinations of the chest (PA, LAT), abdomen (AP), pelvis (AP), lumber spine (AP, LAT) and skull (PA, LAT) were 0.36, 0.18, 0.95, 0.36, 0.58, 1.32, 0.52 and 0.31 mGy respectively. When the result obtained in this study were compared with the reference level, the result were lower than the reference level. From the result obtained, you can conclude that getting proper radiological parameter can minimize the absorbed dose.

The supply of sufficient and sustainable power provision to the country's citizens since the 80's has been an illusion when the signals to improve its power generation capacity to the nation have been neglected. The increase in activities of industry and the rapid growth of population necessitate the solar photovoltaic (PV) technology injection into the nations mix energy. In this study, direct current (DC) and alternative current (AC) appliances were considered. The total load power of these appliances is 3012.5 W. The array to load ratio determined as well as the daily watt-hour load shows that the use of hybrid system in this design is not recommended. To power these appliances, 31 modules, 18 batteries in the battery bank with system battery capacity of 4657.5 Ah and 3 charge controller are required. The use of stand-alone solar photovoltaic technology is recommended for sustainability, reliability and accessibility of power.

However, it creates new challenges for developers. First, the reference rules between scopes constrain the design of the application's memory model. Second, deciding on the appropriate number of scopes and which objects should be allocated into those scopes are not straightforward tasks. This paper presents an empirical study of this memory model using a simulation of a railway control system executed in Sun's RTS 2.2. Five different scoped memory design models were implemented in the case study and memory consumption for each was measured. Results showed that the number of scopes did not always indicate a good memory footprint, choosing the right objects/threads to be allocated in the right scopes is an important factor to be considered.

Due to the complexity of analytically solving the anisotropic heat conduction equation, a numerical solution has been developed. It is based on a coordinate transformation that reduces the anisotropic cylinder heat conduction problem to an equivalent isotropic one, without complicating the boundary conditions but with a more complicated geometry. The equation of heat conduction for this virtual medium is solved by the alternating directions method. The inverse transformation makes it possible to determine the thermal behavior of the anisotropic medium as a function of study parameters: diagonal and cross thermal conductivities, heat flux.

Radiotherapy (RT) plays an important role in the treatment of this tumor. Aim: To compare the survival rates of HGG patients treated by conventional RT and those treated by hypofractionated or hyperfractionated RT combined with chemotherapy in two centers in Upper Egypt. Methods: Data of HGG patients from two cancer care facilities in Upper Egypt who were treated by surgery followed by RT and temozolomide (TMZ) in the period between 2007 and 2012 were reviewed. Radiotherapy schedules were either conventional RT (60 Gy in 30 fractions over 6 weeks, group A) or hypofractionated RT (45 Gy in 15 fractions over 3 weeks, group B) or hyperfractionated RT (64.8 Gy in, 1.2 Gy/fraction, 2 fractions/day, group C) with ± concurrent TMZ and adjuvant TMZ. Progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) of patients after receiving the different types of RT treatment were evaluated. Results: Forty-eight patients with grade III or IV HGG were identified. They were classified into 3 groups (A, B and C) that included 17, 16 and 15 patients, respectively. The median PFS were 6, 9 and 8 months (p= 0.354) and the median OS were 11, 12 and 14 (p= 0.760) for group A, B and C, respectively. Late RT toxicity was not different between the 3 groups. Conclusion: The three radiation schedules had a similar efficacy in adult HGG patients.

The objective of using Nitrogen gas is to partially replace some of hydrocarbon injection gas, which has a high demand for Abu Dhabi domestic consumption. This paper presents the plan, implementation, results and analysis of an intensive reservoir monitoring program, which was conducted to monitor the Nitrogen injection and production. Additionally, the paper discusses lessons learned from the Nitrogen injection, inferences reached, and corrective actions taken. The Nitrogen injection was started as a Mixed Case (MC) injection, where a mixture of Nitrogen (~20%) and hydrocarbon gas (~80%) was injected in all existing injectors across the entire reservoir for a period of three years. However, when it comes to safety-critical systems, some beneficial features of Java, like Garbage Collection, are less suitable. Over the years communities have been working on suitable compromises, leading to the work on domain-specific Java standards like the Real-Time Specification for Java (RTSJ) and more recently the Safety-Critical Java (SCJ). In this paper we present the agenda and outline the design for a new Java Virtual Machine (JVM) for mixed-criticality systems, with the particular emphasis on not forbidding the use of standard Java libraries within the non-critical tasks.. We propose a high-level design of a JVM featuring design ideas to allow support for mixed-criticality systems.

A range of twenty smells described by Fowler and Beck each require varying numbers and combinations of refactorings in order to be eradicated-but exactly how many are needed when we consider related, nested refactorings is unclear. In this paper, we enumerate these refactorings when categorised according to Mantyla's smell taxonomy. We then show how, ironically, the 'smelliest' of smells (and hence most difficult to eradicate) are actually those best understood by developers. So, code smells are not only unpleasant to have around, but are deceptive in their nature and make-up. The study is thus a warning against attempting to eradicate what are seemingly easily eradicated smells-these are often the smells the developer needs to be most wary of. Finally, we incorporate the answers to six questions suggested by Paul for 'How to write a paper properly' to position the paper in a reflective way.

Two types of memory areas are provided - immortal and scoped. Using this memory management model is not straightforward, since many issues need to be considered. A developer has to decide on the objects that will be allocated in immortal or scoped memory areas and on the memory space required at runtime. On the other hand, reference checks between memory areas constrain the design of the real-time applications and increase the complexity of the development process. In previous work, a new RTSJ case study was implemented and discussed using different scoped memory models. The case study showed the complexity of using the new RTSJ memory model and the space overhead incurred by immortal memory. In this paper, dynamic code slicing is employed as a debugging technique to explore constant increases in immortal memory. Two programming design patterns are presented for decreasing immortal memory overheads generated by specific data structures. Experimental results showed a significant decrease in immortal memory consumption at runtime. The work therefore provides a new approach for assisting developers in debugging and optimising scoped and immortal memory implementation
