In the growth of infectious outbreaks, this maximum limit will be the total number of people in the world, because growth will certainly decrease when everyone is ill. For this reason, it is also frequently used in the modeling of COVID-19 data, which has recently affected the whole world with great speed. The purpose of this study is to create a statistical model that describes the growth in total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases which occurred the dates between March 11 and May 19, 2020 in Turkey. In this context, Logistic Growth and Exponential Growth models were created to analyze the total number of COVID-19 confirmed cases betw...

This study aims to verify the validity and reliability of the “Intercultural Sensitivity Scale” developed by Chen and Starosta among Turkish medical students. Methods: Data were collected between December 18, 2017, and February 28, 2018, from 667 students. In order to demonstrate the construct validity of the scale, the data were randomly divided into two parts using the functions in the SPSS package program. For the first half of the data (n1=337), exploratory factor analysis (EFA) based on polychoric correlation was applied together with the oblique rotation method. For the second half of the data (n2=330), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) based on polychoric correlations was applied to confirm the factor structure of the scale. In...

Methods: The study was conducted with 779 (girls, 55.3% girl, boys, 44.7%) adolescents, with an average age of 16.3±1.1 years. The actual estimated body weight indices (BMIs) declared by the adolescents was defined as “extremely underweight”, “underweight”, “normal”, “overweight” and “obese” according to genderand agespecific body mass index (BMI) values. The students were asked about their self-perception of body weights, and told to identify with one of the above-mentioned weight definitions. All participants completed the PedsQL and SEQ-C scale. Results: There was no significant difference in total quality of life scores associated with BMIs of the participants. Some (47.3%) girls and 36.5% of the boys perceived themselves at different weights than they were, in ...

In such data analyses, composite models, which are built by piecing together two or more weighted distributions at specified threshold(s), are alternative models. When data contain covariate information, composite regression models can be used. In the existing literature, there is not much work done on this topic. The only study is Gan and Valdez (2018)'s paper. In this study, a novel Lognormal-Pareto Type II composite regression model is proposed. Particle swarm optimization ( PSO ) is performed to obtain model parameters of the proposed model. The proposed model is applied to model monthly consumption expenditure and affecting factors. The data is obtained from the National Household Budget Survey, which is conducted annually by the Turkish Statistical Institute ( TurkStat ). Research paper thumbnail of The adaptation of Turkish health literacy scale for literate Syrian adult refugees living in Turkey: a reliability–validity study

This situation causes various problems, mainly while receiving health-care services. In planning the migrant health-care services, for the policy makers of host countries, health literacy level of migrants is an important measure. Determination of health literacy level of Syrian refugees in Turkey would be supportive for planning some interventions to increase health-care service utilization, as well as health education and health communication programs. An “original health literacy scale” for 18–60 years of age Turkish literate adults (Hacettepe University Health Literacy Scale-HLS) was developed to be used as a reference scale in 2018. Since it would be useful to compare the health literacy levels of Turkish adults with Syrian adult refugees living in Turkey with an originally developed scale, in this study, it was ai...

Methods: A total of 108 youth soccer players were included in this study (age: 13.0±1.5 years old; height: 162.7±12.1 cm; weight: 53.1±11.7 kg). Participants were divided into three groups (Pre-PHV, Mid-PHV and Post-PHV) according to calculation using the maturity offset equation. DJ tests from 20 and 40 cm drop heights (DH) and 30 m sprint tests were made by participants. RSI scores were taken during DJs. All tests were performed twice. One-way ANOVA and Welch ANOVA tests were performed to test differences between more than two independent groups for normally-distributed data. If a significant difference was found, Bonferroni and Games-Howell tests were performed for multiple comparisons, respectively. Pearson correlation coefficients were calculated for bivariate correlations between numeric variables, where appropriate. A value of p<0.05 was accepted as significant. Results: RSI scores of 20 cm DJ were significantly different among groups (p<0.001). RSI of 40 cm DJ of the Pre-PHV group was significantly different than the other groups (p<0.001). All maturation groups were significantly different in terms of sprint times (p<0.001). The RSI of 20 cm DH was correlated with 20 m ST in the Mid-PHV group. But RSI of 40 cm DH was correlated predominantly with 20 m ST in youth soccer (p<0.05). Conclusion: The main finding of this study was that 40 cm drop height and 20 m sprint distance are more optimal to be used to monitor SSC performances of youth soccer players during maturation.

Materials and methods: We made advanced analysis using the Turkey Demographic Health Survey (TDHS) 2013 female database, in which data from children aged under five years and their mothers are included. Analyses were performed using weight for height index data. The children were divided into two groups by age as 0-23 months and 24-59 months. Results: The analysis comprised 2196 children aged under 5 years. Several factors were associated with an increase in overweightness/ obesity of children aged under 5 years. Overweight/obesity in children aged 0-23 months was associated with several factors such as age (12-23 months) (

We aimed to investigate the oral health status and oral hygiene habits in children with FMF. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, 199 children with FMF, aged between 3-18 years, were included. Demographic findings and oral hygiene habits of children were questioned by face-to-face interview. Oral health status of patients was evaluated using decay-missing-filled index [DMFT (decay-missing-filled teeth), DMFS (decay-missing-filled teeth) for permanent; dmft, dmfs for primary teeth], the International Caries Detection and Assessment System (ICDAS-II) index, PUFA / pufa index [the presence of severely decayed teeth with visible pulpal involvement (P/p), ulceration caused by dislocated tooth fragments (U/u), fistula (F/f) and abscess (A/a)], gingival (GI) and plaque index (PI). In addition to these, occlusion, oral soft and hard tissues were examined. RESULTS One-hundred-nine (54.8%) ...

A better understanding of the risk factors and social context is necessary to inform public health interventions and policies. This paper describes the validation of several measurement scales for use in Turkey, which relate to child and parent perceptions of physical activity (PA) and enablers and barriers of physical activity in the home environment. The aim of this study was to assess the validity and reliability of several measurement scales in Turkey using a population sample across three socio-economic strata in the Turkish capital, Ankara. Surveys were conducted in Grade 4 children (mean age = 9.7 years for boys; 9.9 years for girls), and their parents, across 6 randomly selected schools, stratified by SES (n = 641 students, 483 parents). Construct validity of the scales was evaluated through exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Internal consistency of scales and test-retest reliability were as...
