Lime (Citrus aurantifolia) contain some active compounds such as alkaloid, flavonoid, steroid, triterpenoid, saponin, tannin and phenolic that can inhibit the growth of bacteria. Streptococcus mutans is a Gram-Positive, facultative anaerobe bacteria that caused dental caries. The aim of this study is to know whether lime (Citrus aurantifolia) extract has an effect on Streptococcus mutans growth in vitro. Method: An experimental research has been done using Post Test Only Control Group Design method with lime (Citrus aurantifolia) extract that its antibacterial effectivity was tested on Streptococcus mutans ATCC 35668. The test method used was Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion on Muller Hinton blood agar media. The lime extract on this research obtained using maseration method with methanol 98% as the solvent. The concentration created was 40%, 60%, and 80%. Positive control used was Vancomycin and the negative control used was methanol 98%. Result: The result is inhibition zone that formed around the extract disc was increased with enchancement of the extract concentration. The average of inhibition zone in 40%; 60%; 80% concentration is 14.2; 19.6; 22.6 mm. Statistical test One Way ANOVA showed that p<0.05 that mean there is a significant difference in every extract concentration that inhibit Streptococcus mutans growth in vitro. Conclusion: Lime fruit extract (Citrus aurantifolia) with a concentration of 40%, 60%, and 80% can inhibit the growth of Streptococcus mutans in vitro.

According to the WHO, about 60-90% school children worldwide have dental caries. The aims of this study were to analyze the correlation between snacking (consumption of snacks or sweetened drink), tooth brushing habit and dental visit with caries incidence. Method: Study design using a cross-sectional analytical study, sampled from one hundred and two seventh grade Santo Yoseph junior high school students. Samples were chosen using purposive random sampling. The data was analyzed using descriptive method and risk estimate with chi-square test. Result: The prevalence of caries observed in the samples was 52.0%. The results was statistically significant for correlation between tooth brushing habit and caries incidence (p = < 0.001; OR = 7.44; CI 95% = 2.71-20.42). Consumption of snacks or sweetened drink (p = 0.25; OR= 1.58; CI 95%= 0.71-3.50) and dental visit (p = 0.903; OR = 1.502; CI 95% = 0.46-2.37) were not statistically significant with caries incidence. Conclusion: Tooth brushing habit was concluded as the most significant factor in dental caries incidence. It is recommended for school to educate the student about how to brushing teeth properly in collaboration with the primary health care centers.

Experts agree that dental and oral diseases are "behavioral diseases" or diseases related to behavior. Factors that affects the behavior of dental and oral health care is yet unknown, which leads to a research that involving 12 years old children in Puskesmas I Baturiti, Tabanan, to see the most affect the determinants to the behavior of oral hygiene. Method: Study design using cross sectional analytic model involving on 12 years old children in the working area of Puskesmas I Baturiti, Tabanan. All sample were taken using simple random sampling. Chisquare test was used to determine the association between knowledge, information support, attitudes, parental support, and teacher support towards oral hygiene behavior. Result: The study shows that correlation between health determinants with oral hygiene behavior on children age 12 years old, based on the knowledge, the result is p = 0.007. The result also shows that based on attitude, p = 0.033, and when based on the source of information, p = 0.000. Lastly, the result based on parental support and teacher support are p = 0.028, and p = 0.009. Conclusion: There is a significant correlation between knowledge, attitude, source of information, parental and teacher support with treatment behavior of oral hygiene in children. Source of information is the dominant factors that affect the behavior of oral hygiene in children age 12 years old in Puskesmas I Baturiti, Tabanan.
