The research design was a laboratory experiment with 52 non-obese and obese rats as subjects (non-obese, n=14 and obese, n=38). Rats were induced obesity using a high-fat diet for four weeks. BMI used is based on the Lee Index with obesity indicators if 300 g/cm. Data analysis using independent sample t-test, simple linear regression test, and Pearson correlation test; (p0.05). The results: BP in non-obese rats was lower than obese rats (89.00±7.38 vs 190.11±4.42; p=0.001*), BMI was positively associated with BP (p=0.001*); an increase in BMI will increase BP (p=0.001*), there is a strong correlation between BMI and BP (r=0.977; p=0.001*). The regression equation (Y = 707.42 + 2.75 X) indicates that every 1 g/cm increase in BMI will be followed by an increase in BP of 2.75 mmHg. The analysis of R-square = 0.942 shows that the accuracy of the linea...

The objective of this study was to assess the protective effect of mangiferin on liver injury induced by doxorubicin. The doxorubicin was injected intraperitoneally at a total dose of 15 mg/kg b.w, and then the animals were orally supplemented with mangiferin (either 50 and 100 mg/kg b.w) for five weeks. The activity of alanine aminotransferase (ALT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), superoxide dismutase (SOD), the level of malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione, and liver histopathology were examined to evaluate the liver damage. The results showed that doxorubicin could cause liver cell damage to the rats. In addition, the study revealed that the supplementation of mangiferin (50 and 100 mg/kg b.w) decreased ALT and AST activities, as well as lipid peroxidation. It also increased SOD and GSH levels of liver cells (p <0.05). Our study proved that the improvement in liver function and oxidative stress parameters caused by doxorubicin, indicates that the mangiferin has a protective effect against liver damage induced by doxorubicin.

Chemotherapy is one of the treatment modalities with many side effects. This study aimed to evaluate the anticancer activity of soluble ethyl acetate partition of Chromolaena odorata (C. odorata) leaves on HeLa cells of cervical cancer. Material and methods: The cytotoxicity activity of the soluble ethyl acetate extract of the C. odorata leaves was analyzed by MTT colorimetry assay. The apoptosis activity was determined by double staining and flow cytometry techniques. Doubling time assay was used to observed HeLa cells proliferation. Results: The IC 50 of soluble ethyl acetate partition of this plant was 82.41± 6.73 µg/ml against HeLa cells. The apoptosis activity showed that HeLa cells underwent morphological changes in dosedependent manner while the highest number of dead cells was observed after treatment with 500 µg/ml of the partition. Flow cytometry analysis showed that treatment with IC 50 and 2x IC 50 resulted in death of more than 97% cells (p-value <0.05 in both comparisons). Proliferation of HeLa cells was also inhibited following treatment with ½ IC50, IC50, and 2xIC 50 in the first 24 hours (p-value <0.05 in all comparison). Conclusion: The findings of this study suggested that the soluble ethyl acetate partition from ethanol extract of C. odorata leaves had cytotoxic and antiproliferative properties against HeLa cells.
