The present study was conducted to assess the phenolic content, and antibacterial and antioxidant... more The present study was conducted to assess the phenolic content, and antibacterial and antioxidant activities of Lathyrus L. species. The extraction of phenolic compounds from whole seeds, seed coat and cotyledon of Lathyrus hierosolymitanus Boiss. and Lathyrus annuus L. seeds was performed employing different solvents. Total phenolic content (TPC) was measured by Folin-Ciocalteau assay, while the antioxidant activity was determined by DPPH radical scavenging activity, and reducing power assay. It was found that TPC of extracts ranged from 0.12 mg to 6.53 mg GAE/gdw. For each solvent, seed coat extracts were generally observed to render higher TPC and antioxidant activities. There was a correlation between TPC and antioxidant activity. In addition, all extracts were also examined for their antimicrobial activity against Bacillus cereus, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Methanol extracts showed the highest antibacterial activity which is consistent with TPC, but there was no correlation between TPC and antibacterial activity. Solvents were observed to have effects on gallic acid, caffeic acid, and epicatechin extractions. HPLC analysis results of extracts confirmed methanol and ethanol as preferred solvents for phenolic extraction from Lathyrus sp. Phenolic content in the extracts could be suggested to contribute to their antioxidant and antibacterial activity.

Lathyrus undulatus Boiss., an endemic species belongs to the Fabaceae family, is distributed in A... more Lathyrus undulatus Boiss., an endemic species belongs to the Fabaceae family, is distributed in A1, A2, A3, A5 and B2 squares in the flora of Türkiye according to the literature records. In our researches, it has also been seen that the species is distributed in a narrow area at an altitude of 791-803 m around C2 Muğla: Menteşe, Yerkesik. L. undulatus has found for the first time by us in this locality and added as a new record for the C2 square with this study. By morphological examinations on the newly detected population, vegetative and generative characteristics such as stem, stipule, leaf, leaflets, inflorescence, peduncle, pedicel, flower, fruit, seed etc. have been revealed. The flowering time has been determined by conducting field studies on different dates. The morphological features of the new population have been compared with the descriptions of L. undulatus found in the Flora of Türkiye and the Flora Europaea, and similarities and differences have been revealed.

Ormanları geliştirmek ve arttırmak amacıyla gerçekleştirmek istediği çok çeşitli projeleri olduğu görülmektedir. Ormanların yöre ekonomisi bakımından gerekli olduğunu düşündükleri görülmektedir. Ormanları gelişmesine yönelik herhangi bir etkinliğe katılmadıkları görülmektedir. Ormana vakit geçirmek ve eğlenmek amacıyla gittikleri gözlenmektedir. Ormanların insan hayatındaki önemini anladıkları, insanların ormanlara ne kadar çok muhtaç olduklarını, ormanlar yok olduğunda insan varlığının da olmayacağını verdikleri ifadelerden kavradıkları anlaşılmaktadır.

The sample of the study composed of fourth year students attending Suleyman Demirel University, Burdur Faculty of Education. The study was conducted with 140 students from primary school teacher program. In the study, attitude scale toward science teaching lesson which includes 20 items α (Croanbach Alfa) 0,90 and personal information form was used. As a result of the research it is understood that the attitudes of prospective teachers change according to their schooling shift. Prospective teachers’ attitudes toward science teaching lesson doesn’t change variables according to the gender, their high school type and graduated fields in high school.

I n the study, the effects of methanol and hexane extracts obtained from Nepeta italica L. and Ne... more I n the study, the effects of methanol and hexane extracts obtained from Nepeta italica L. and Nepeta cilicia Boiss. apud Bentham on antioxidant enzymes in healthy rat erythrocyte were studied. The ethanol extract of N. cilicia caused a decrease in glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) activity and an increase in catalase (CAT) activity. There wasn't significant enzyme value in the group treated with the hexane extract of N. cilicia. However, the ethanol extract of N. italica caused a decrease in superoxide dismutase (SOD) and CAT activities. In group treated with hexane extract of N. italica, a significant decrease in SOD and CAT activities was observed, whereas a significant increase in G6PD activity was observed. Also, a statistically significant difference in MDA wasn't found in all groups. Present study determined the variation of total electrophoretic seed protein patterns and protein... more Present study determined the variation of total electrophoretic seed protein patterns and protein amounts in some Lathyrus species viz., L. tukhtensis, L. cilicicus, L. saxatilis, L. annuus, L. hierosolymitanus, L. gorgoni var. gorgoni, L. Lycicus and L. odoratus collected from their natural habitats of different localities in Turkey. Electrophoretic data were documented by using a gel documentation system (Bio-Rad, USA) and analysed by using Quantity 1-D analysis software and also the dendogram were formed with 4.0% tolerance in UPGAMA (Unweighed Pair-Group Arithmetic Mean). The differences among species were observed and all 9 taxa were clearly identifiable from the protein patterns. The formed dendogram from SDS-PAGE analysis showed that all studied taxa constituted two clusters. The first one consisted of L. saxatilis, L. gorgoni, L. annuus, L. hierosolymitanus, L. lycicus and L. phaselitanus second one by L. tukhtensis, L. cilicicus and L. odoratus. In cluster I, L. saxatilis and L. gorgoni were found to have higher similarity to each other. Also, it was reproted that quantities of total seed proteins in the present study. L. lycicus (79.906 μg/ml) has highest total protein content whereas L. cilicicus (65.860 μg/ml) has lowest total protein content.

Abstract This research was carried out to determine the flora of the surroundings of Burdur Lake.... more Abstract This research was carried out to determine the flora of the surroundings of Burdur Lake. The research area is in the C3 square according to Davis’s Grid system. As a result of the identification of the collected 1005 specimens, 465 plant species have been determined from the area, belonging to 70 families and 275 genera. In this research area, according to the taxon numbers, the richest family was Compositae (Asteraceae) and the richest genus was Centaurea L. The number of endemic taxa was 49 and it constitutes 10.53% of total. The phytogeographic elements are represented as follows; Irano-Turanian 55 taxa (% 12,04), Euro-Siberian 23 taxa (% 4,95), Mediterranean 40 taxa (% 21,07), widespread and undetermined are 289 taxa (% 61,94). Key words: flora, C3 square, Burdur lake, Burdur, Turkiye ----------  ---------- Burdur gölü çevresi florası Özet Bu araştırma Burdur Gölü çevresinin florasını tespit etmek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırma alanı Davis’in Grid sistemine göre C3 karesi içinde yer almaktadır. Araştırma bölgesinden toplanan yaklaşık 1005 bitki örneğinin değerlendirilmesi sonucu 70 familya, bu familyalara ait 275 cins ve bu cinslere ait 465 takson tespit edilmiştir. Araştırma alanında takson sayısı bakımından en zengin familya Compositae (Asteraceae) familyası, takson sayısı bakımından en zengin cins ise Centaurea L. cinsidir. Tespit edilen endemik takson sayısı 49 olup toplam takson sayısına oranı % 10,53’dür. Taksonların fitocoğrafik bölgelere göre dağılımları şu şekildedir: İran-Turan Elementi 55 takson (% 12,04), Avrupa-Sibirya Elementi 23 (% 4,95) takson, Akdeniz Elementi 98 takson (% 21,07), 289 takson (% 61,95) geniş yayılışlı (çok bölgeli) ve fitocoğrafik bölgesi tanımlanmamış olanlardır.
