A laboratory system was developed to simulate the conditions facilitating microbial-induced corrosion of concrete in a sanitary sewer environment. Various concrete formulations were examined based on their resistance to microbial-induced corrosion in simulated laboratory and also in field exposure conditions. Of the various strategies considered, the mix formulation incorporating both polymer emulsion and fine pozzolan proved to be a viable means of enhancing concrete resistance to acid attack and moisture sorption, and to microbial-induced corrosion in simulated laboratory condition and also in an actual sewer environment. The polymer emulsion lines the capillary pore surfaces, and partially blocks the capillary pore system. Pozzolans further refine the size distribution and the connectivity of capil...

Considerations in this aerodynamic performance include the textile surface morphology, fastener placement and air permeability. Elite competition usually involves very short winning time margins in events that often have much longer timescales, making aerodynamic resistance and its associated energy loss during the event significant in the outcome. This paper describes the impact of textile surface employing a standard cylindrical arrangement in wind tunnel studies to provide data on aerodynamic drag and lift as a function of athlete's body positions together with textile surface morphology.

The paper has three components. The first deals with the analytical framework necessary for the definition of metafrontier functions. The second component studies the properties of the metafrontier estimated using nonparametric data envelopment analysis (DEA). The third component focuses on the estimation of metafrontiers within the parametric framework of stochastic frontier analysis (SFA). The empirical application of the models uses crosscountry agricultural sector data. The DEA and SFA metafrontiers are presented and discussed.

’Capital’ has engulfed all other social constructs exalting the institutionalisation of property ... more ’Capital’ has engulfed all other social constructs exalting the institutionalisation of property relations to its zenith to render capitalism its singular ubiquity. Conventional theories, including those of post-modernism or the notions of ‘social capital’ or ‘social business’, appear to be inadequate to grasp or assuage its antagonistic relations, rules and rationality. Capitalism acquired its current stature thriving first on autochthonous articulation of the economy and then harnessing ‘other economies’ to its own dynamics. This involved increased exploitation and appropriation of nature and labour necessitating increased subsumption of spatial loci and economies as ‘medium and soil’ and holding them in ‘uneven and combined development’ along with diverse modes of ‘militarism’. With global expansion and gargantuan accumulation, lately capitalism came to be designated as ‘globalisation’. Besides this benign appellation, earlier the ‘highest stage’ of capitalism was expounded as ‘imperialism’. Bangladesh, India or the South Asian subcontinent altogether, were a crucial part of this whole development though its current stance and impact is more diverse and even disconcerting for them owing to differential nature and/or degree of assimilation with globalisation. This article briefly examines globalisation in general and as it concerns Bangladesh in particular with some of its contemporary ramifications for the people and polity.
