An improvised steam distillation system was applied for Cymbopogon nardus extraction with the capability to regulate the steam temperature at any desired value. The quality was evaluated using refractive index and GC-MS analysis. The results were compared with the international standard for citronella oil (BS ISO 3849:2003) and against the data gathered from literatures. The chemical compounds are much differed from literatures but complied with the minimum requirements from the ISO standard. Nonetheless, quality improvement of the yield can be observed between each sample from different temperature settings.

Despite the difficulties in the new normal of strict Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and Movement Control Order (MCO) imposed by the government, UNISEL operations especially in academic services and teaching & learning have continued as usual throughout the MCO. UNISEL has managed to sustain its operation and successfully faced the challenges. This sustainability can be well connected to the UNISEL's implementation of ISO 21001:2018 Educational Organization Management Systems (EOMS). The EOMS standard provides a general ground of education management system that can be used in any condition. The effectiveness of the EOMS implementation can be proven by the students' satisfaction survey. The instruments of this survey were divided into five aspects which are students' demographic, teaching and learning, facilities, support services, student's activities, and overall experience as a student in UNISEL. The questionnaire consists of 31 and the likert scale used was ranked from 1 to 5 for the students' satisfaction survey. The results for each aspect were then compared with previous years' data. The comparison analysis showed that there was no significant satisfaction reduction for the 2021 survey and there was a slight improvement in the teaching and learning aspects as compared to the previous year. The study proved that the EOMS standard is robust and can help education providers to sustain in challenging conditions like pandemic Covid-19.

Error and control signal switching were equipped to enhance the output response over a limited steam temperature response. The control performance was evaluated experimentally on a steam distillation process regulation. The proposed technique employing relay tuning together with error switching had produced an astounding closed-loop response even for a non-linear steam temperature control.

The optical properties were investigated by the UV–visible spectrophotometer. The transmittance was influenced by NiO doping concentrations as well as the absorption and extinction coefficients. Moreover, the band gap was found to decrease from 2.69371 to 2.41751 eV with increasing NiO contents in the Fe2O3 matrix. Furthermore, the nonlinear optical parameters were estimated based on the Wemple-DiDomenico model, the single-oscillator energy was increased from 2.29 to 2.86 eV as the dispersion energy was found to increase from 8.04 to 16.72 eV by increasing NiO doping concentrations, the third-order nonlinear susceptibility was found to increase in the doped films from 1.04 × 10–12 to 7.96 × 10–12 esu. The best result was achieved in (Fe2O3)0.98: (NiO)0.02 thin film where the highest nonlinear optical constants were obtained which make it a potential candidate in nonlinear optics (NLO) applications.

The steam is used in the essential oil extraction process where the steam temperature must be regulated to preserve the oil quality. Online tuning using fuzzy rules did not require accurate model and hence easier to implement. On the other hand, self-tuning using pole-placement method requires the plant parameters to be updated recursively so that the controller gain can be adjusted. Result shows that self-tuning Pole-Placement PID controller performs better response.

The controller was proven to perform better than the integer-order controller because of the generalization in the integrator and differentiator power. But lately, the application has been widened into non-PID type controllers including fuzzy rules application. The application of fuzzy can accommodate the tuning of PID gain for a non-linear process such as steam temperature. This study initiates the design of self-tuning fuzzy for FOPID controller that will automatically select the PID gains while the fractional-order was fixed. The proposed technique, named fuzzy FOPID was compared with the fuzzy PID for set point change and load disturbance test. The fuzzy FOPID controller was further improved by applying an error filter to the integrator to minimize overshoot and dampened fluctuations around the set point. The proposed fuzzy FOPID with error filter was proven to provide better control with less error index and control effort measured by Integral of Squared Error and Integral of Control signal.

The comparisons were done by MATLAB simulation to evaluate the performance of the controllers in terms of set point regulation, response towards set point changes and disturbance rejection. The PID was optimally-tuned using GA with model reference input that will specify the desired closed-loop trajectory during controller optimization. The self-tuning PID control on the other hand was synthesized using pole-placement with type-A PID structure. Generally, both controllers' gave satisfactory response in every aspect but the IAE index shows that the self-tuning PID was superior.

Flexible nasopharyngolaryngoscopy revealed a huge cystic mass at the vallecula obscuring the visualisation of the laryngeal inlet. Patient successfully underwent endoscopic excision of the vallecular cyst with no intra-and postoperative complications.

It may mimic a parotid abscess due to very close anatomical relationship. We present a 14-month-old child presented with fever, poor oral intake, irritability, and left-sided cheek swelling. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography of the neck showed an abscess formation in left submasseteric space. Intraoral drainage of abscess was successfully performed under general anesthesia. Patient recovered well and was discharged on day three post operatively. Subsequent follow up at one-week post operatively showed no recollection of the abscess.International Journal of Human and Health Sciences Vol. 03 No. 02 April’19. Page: 123-125
