Production of the beta-lactamase enzymes is the primary resistance mechanism caused by uncounscio... more Production of the beta-lactamase enzymes is the primary resistance mechanism caused by uncounscious consumption of the beta-lactam group of antibiotics in Enterobacteriaceae. Combined disc tests were performed for extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) confirmation (n = 15) and class C beta-lactamase (AmpC) confirmation (n = 6) after the disc diffusion test was applied in total of 27 Enterobacteriaceae strains from Western Black Sea, Lake Manyas and Lake Iznik. Plasmid-mediated blaTEM, blaSHV, blaCTX-M , blaIMP genes, CIT, MOX, FOX gene groups and chromosomal bla AmpC gene of E. cloacae were investigated with polimerase chain reaction (PCR). Three E. coli strains were shown to produce ESBL while one E.coli and three E. cloacae strains were confirmed for AmpC production by disc tests. blaTEM (n = 2), blaSHV (n = 4), blaCTX-M (n = 2), blaTEM + blaSHV (n = 1), blaCTX-M + CIT (n = 1), blaSHV + CIT (n = 1) genes and/or gene groups were detected in eleven E. coli isolates; while blaSHV (...
The Southwestern Black Sea region has an intense city life where swimming, fishery and shipping a... more The Southwestern Black Sea region has an intense city life where swimming, fishery and shipping are widespread practices. It is crucial to determine and trace the levels of microbiological contamination of such places in terms of public health. Within the scope of this study, we collected samples from the surface water of the sea in 10 different areas (St1-10) between İğneada-Kilyos seasonally and analyzed them in terms of fecal coliform (FC), total coliform (TC), fecal streptococci (FS), total mesophilic heterotrophic bacteria (TM), Pseudomonas spp. (P) and Aeromonas spp. (A) through bacterial isolation. The antibiotic and heavy metal resistance profiles of the isolated bacteria were also investigated. According to results, the most polluted stations are St5, St7 and St10. When the results were evaluated on a seasonal basis, the highest TC, TM, P and A counts were observed in the summer while the maximum FC and FS counts were observed in the winter and autumn, respectively. When FC/FC ratios were examined, it was detected that the contamination in St1-3 was of only animal origin, but the contamination in the other stations was of both animal and human origin. In this study, we isolated 153 bacteria of 43 different species, notably E. coli (25%), Fecal streptococci (15%), Pseudomonas fluorescens (9%) and Aeromonas hydrophila (8%). When the antibiotic and heavy metal resistance profiles of the isolated bacteria were examined, it was observed that the stations had been exposed to a serious contamination stemming from human activities in relation to fecal and industrial wastes.

Bu çalışmada, Isparta bölgesinde 3 farklı okulda selofan bant yöntemiyle Enterobius vermicularis ... more Bu çalışmada, Isparta bölgesinde 3 farklı okulda selofan bant yöntemiyle Enterobius vermicularis prevalansı belirlemek amaçlanmıştır. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Çalışma için Isparta-Yalvaç' ta bulunan 3 farkı okul (toplam 558 öğrenci) seçilmiştir. Tanı için selofan bant yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Tüm istatistiksel analizler SPSS Windows 16.0 programı ile yapılmıştır. Her öğrenci için yaş, cinsiyet ve ailesinin meslek bilgilerini içeren anket formu hazırlanmıştır. Bulgular: Toplam 558 öğrenciden 47' sinde (% 8.4) E. vermicularis bulunmuştur. Bu parazitin görülme sıklığı kızlarda % 7.8; erkeklerde % 8.9 olarak belirlenmiştir. Ailesi hayvancılık ile geçinen çocuklarda enfeksiyon oranı daha fazla saptanmıştır.(p<0,05) Sonuç: Bu çalışma, Isparta' da E. vermicularis'in öğrenciler arasında yaygınlaşmasında sosyo-ekonomik durumun etkili olduğunu ortaya koymuştur.
