Do dziś przetrwało zaledwie około 15 gatunków. Nieco szerzej została przedstawiona kompozycja fitochemiczna gatunku w kontekście dawnej i współczesnej fitoterapii.

It is known to be useful in prevention of dental caries. But still it is not used as frequently as other oral hygiene tools. This research was designed to scientifically establish antimicrobial effect of miswak in vitro against common oral pathogens. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study involving 100 health care workers. This research was carried out in Microbiology section of Dow Diagnostic Research & Reference Laboratory. A questionnaire was designed to test oral hygiene habits of study subjects. Oral swabs were taken and microorganisms were identified by standard bacteriological methods. Test material included four different types of miswaks i.e. (1) root of the peelu (Salvadora persica) tree (in packing) (2) root of the peelu tree (without packing) (3) stem of the peelu tree & (4) stem of the neem (Azadirechta indica) tree. These miswaks were tested against three different types of microorganisms isolated from oral swabs: Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans & Candida albicans by agar diffusion method. Inhibition zone was measured after 24 hrs of incubation at 37 o C. Results: Among the miswaks used, root of the peelu tree in both packing and without packing exhibited strong antimicrobial effect against all three tested microorganisms. However miswak taken from the stem of the peelu and neem tree did not show any antimicrobial activity against all three types of the tested microorganisms. Conclusion: Miswak taken from the root of the peelu tree exhibited antimicrobial activity against all the common oral pathogens and could be a good oral hygiene tool in combating dental caries.

Surowcem zielarskim są nasiona kozieradki Semen Foenugraeci, które są bogatym źródłem substancji biologicznie czynnych, między innymi związków śluzowych, saponin steroidowych, flawonoidów, steroli, witamin. Kozieradka pospolita wykazuje przede wszystkim działanie hipolidemiczne, przeciwhiperglikemiczne i hipoglikemiczne, neurologiczne, przeciwzapalne, przeciwdrobnoustrojowe, przeciwnowotworowe.

Therefore, new solutions are being sought as alternatives to currently used agents. There are many new ideas and solutions, especially compounds of natural origin, including essential oils. In the present study, the antiprotozoal activity of a mixture of essential oils (eucalyptus, lavender, cedar and tea tree), organic acids (acetic acid, propionic acid and lactic acid) and metal ions (Cu, Zn, Mn) were tested. As a model, protozoans were selected: Euglena gracilis, Gregarina blattarum, Amoeba proteus, Paramecium caudatum, Pentatrichomonas hominis. The tested concentrations of mixtures were in the range of 0.001–1.5%. The analyses show unexpected, very strong protozoicidal activity of combinations, presenting the synergy of compounds via determination of LD50 and LD100 values. Obtained mixtures showed significantly higher activity against protozoans, compared to chloramphenicol and metro...

The preparation was made at the Research-Promoting Centre LNB Poland Ltd. in Kiszkowo and it was standardized with respect to the bioactive substances concentration. Herbiplant CS phytopreparation was applied in the form of loose powder to feed mixtures of a starter, grower and finisher type in the amount of 125 and 500 mg/kg (3 groups of fatteners). The animals were kept individually and fat- tened from 20 to 100 kg of body weight. An average daily live weight gain in control group within the whole period of fattening reached 896 g, and in the groups supplemented with Herbiplant CS was higher of 3.8 and 5.0%. An average daily feed intake by pigs in the subsequent stages of fattening was similar in all groups. Feed consumption per 1 kg of weight gain in the whole fattening period was 2.67 k...

The biological activity of the majority of substances presented in egg matter is related to their anti-microbial and anti-cancer properties and their immunogenic features as well. Due to the use of new generation of feed additives and techniques of immunisation of hens, the chemical composition and biological features of eggs may be modified and enriched with desired components, like n-3 fatty acids (alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) phospholipids), vitamins, microelements. Egg material may also be used for the production of new biopreparations for the prophylaxis of various civilisation diseases, such as heart and cardiovascular diseases, cancers, neurogenerative disorders, metabolic bone diseases etc.. New progress in egg science allowed to discover new bioactive substances, like monomeric and dimeric cystatin and yolkin. It is necessary to develop efficient methods of isolation of biologically active substances contained in eggs, which would make it possible to produce new generation of diet supplements and biomedical products. It seems that new generation of eggs could be the best source for production of natural, high value nutraceutical supplements of diet, and also biomedical and biocosmetic preparations.

Due to these mild and easily controlled reaction conditions, this method of modification has been commonly applied in producing high quality food products. Processing affects the conformation of the molecule and its biological activity. Limited hydrolysis leads to improvement of both the functional and nutritional properties of proteins, as well as their organoleptic characteristics. Proteolytic enzymes release peptides that frequently show different specific biological activities. Bioactive peptides govern the function of other compounds in the bloodstream, digestive, immune and nervous systems. Food sources of bioactive peptides exhibiting anti-hypertensive, anti-tumour, antioxidant or antimicrobial activities include milk, eggs and fish. Biopeptides with specific biological activities can be used in pharmaceutical, cosmetic or food industries as ...

The aim of this study was to investigate if use of phytogenic feed additive based of bioactive herbal compounds affected coccidian invasions and production parameters in goats. This research was carried out on a flock of adult Boer goats and their offspring owned by the WULS-SGGW's Sheep and Goat Research Farm in 2elazna. The experimental and control groups were established regarding 14 and 10 does for fecal analysis, respectively as well as 10 and 7 does for milk performance analysis, respectively. Does were at 2-7 lactation and reared 1-2 kids. The addition of herbal feed additive (ADI-COX AP) was applied in feeding of experimental group in doze of 200 g per ton of concentrate. Individual fecal samples were collected directly from the rectum from does (beginning and end of trial time) as well as from kids (end of the experiment). The McMaster counting technique and the flotation method was applied for does and kids respectively. The whole experimental time lasted for approx. 3 months since kidding pick and data regarding milk yield of does and body weights of kids were collected in every 2-weeks period. The results indicated addition of ADICOX AP in preventing of coccidiosis in goats caused several observations regarding experimental group such as: i. advantageous course of lactation curve in milked goats, ii. higher body weights of kids and higher daily gains during first weeks of rearing, iii. significant lower number of oocytes per gram of faeces in adult goats and iv. decrease of highly infected kids. ADICOX AP demonstrated its high usefulness in prevention of coccidiosis in goats. Moreover, the advantageous trends in production traits, both in adult goats and in kids, gave additional benefit, which indicated the possibility of use ADICOX AP in standard breeding practice. Additionally this study also indicated the necessity of searching for naturally based feeding solutions in animal diets which may be helpful in maintaining parasitic infections and could bring better production yields for breeders.
