One of the main objectives of WWW caching systems is to reduce WWW traffic on the Internet. Since the traffic generated by ICP does not usually convey WWW objects, it might be considered as a waste of network resources. However, ICP is expected to improve the hit rate so that the system would in turn reduce WWW traffic on the Internet. Obviously, a system analysis based only on the hit rate is inadequate to evaluate the effect of the distributed WWW caching system. Therefore, it is indispensable to examine quantitatively how much the traffic is reduced or conversely increased by the system. For the quantitative analysis of the system effect, we evaluate the amount of overall traffic generated by ICP and HTTP in the system with siblings as well as in the system without siblings. From the results, we deriv...

When a proxy server receives an HTTP request for an object but it does not store the object locally in its cache, it sends queries to other proxies. However, the system causes a problem that many ICP messages, i.e., IP packets, are exchanged between proxies. The increase of ICP packets puts high load on a router because it must look up its routing table to relay a packet.

In addition, people have started utilizing many kinds of sensors. Sensors independently collect environmental information all over the world. Unfortunately those sensed data are not shared and open to the public. Therefore, we have constructed super-large-scale sensor network system to share sensed data collected from sensors all over the world. We call such a project Live E!. In a part of Live E!, To sense a public area in whole, we assume public objects(mailbox, bus stop, dumpster) uniformly allocate in a district evenly is equipped with a sensor and a wireless device. The public objects often dose not have connectivity to a network. Those are Isolated Wireless Sensor Nodes (ISNs). .. Then, we need to consider the way of collecting from the ISNs. Accordingly, we utilize a Patrol Node (PN) that moves around ISNs, and collects sensed data from ISNs. The ISN stores the sensed data until the time PN comes back. However, because the communication time to the PN depends on the speed of the PN, ISNs can not necessarily transmit all the maintained sensed data to the PN. Therefore, we suggest that the ISN should send adaptive data according to the speed of PN. We propose a technique for transmitting adaptive data depending on the movement of the PN. In addition, we have implemented a prototype of our proposal and verified the effectiveness of our proposed system. Finally, we show that our system improves the performance of the sensor network.

The digital information and communication infrastructure as empowered by Internet technology has already become a major part of the infrastructure platform of people's daily activities and of working environment. The Internet is now mutating toward a new stage, which is a broadband and ubiquitous computing over the native Internet environment. Ubiquitous computer network shall include wide variety of sensor devices. These sensor devices have large heterogeneity, such as associated with computing capability, geographical location, and types of sensor information. We realize that the sensor networking has a lot of technical challenges, such as operating system, routing, device management architecture, security and privacy. Also, some practical professional applications, such as monitoring the heat island phenomena in metropolitan using weather sensors, have been exploring. This workshop focuses on system architecture, middleware, and the practical applications and it's testbed operation, associated with sensor networks.

Usually, various information is collected and transferred to a server, at frequent intervals. The information includes when and where the information was collected, which could lead to privacy problems. One way to solve these problems, is to use cryptographic anonymous authentication protocols. However, although the computational and network resource on cars are limited, anonymous authentication protocols tend to consume both heavily. In this article, we propose a new protocol using the combination cryptographic anonymous authentication and symmetric-key cryptographic authentication. This protocol can protect the users¿ privacy, while is efficient enough to be used for probe vehicle information systems. We also have conducted an experiment on a simulator with 5,000 virtual cars, and showed that this protocol is efficient enough for real use.

Although information from diverse sources floods the Internet, the quality of narcolepsy-related information appears to have improved, and harmful information does not often enter the top access rankings. Narcolepsy patients consider the information available on the Internet as being useful and wish to know more about new treatments, drugs, and the situation of other narcolepsy patients. The time from the onset of the symptoms to a definitive diagnosis has been significantly shorter in patients using the Internet compared to those who have not used it (8.8 vs 19.8 years). From this point of view, we believe that the Internet plays an important role in improving the quality of life of narcolepsy patients. Patients often desire information regarding the hereditary nature of the disease and ways to deal with their disease. There is a need to accurately assess what kind of information patients are looking for and to provide reliable information.
