Passenger vessels in the Amazon have given a great contribution to the movement of people and to ... more Passenger vessels in the Amazon have given a great contribution to the movement of people and to the regional economy. However this type of transport is used by low-income persons and vessels are usually made of wood. However, the use of wood as a building material has proved to be increasingly scarce and expensive. A possible wood substitute is for example steel, but its use leads to increase price of hull construction as steel is more expensive and to increase weight of the hull, that in turn requires higher engine power and loss of loading capacity, which moreover directly contribute to increase cost of transport. This work, studies different materials for shipbuilding in the Amazon region, which seeks to assess different materials to use in building ships for the Amazon with a focus on passenger transport. This work studied different types of materials in order to identify the material that has better physical condition and cost for replacement of wood as a building material for...

Aware of this reality, this work develops an assessment of the implementation of a port project in the northern region of Brazil, using Monte Carlo methodology-based risk analysis software, computer simulations are generated for a 35-year lifespan, resulting in the distribution and tornado readings of the main existing risks and the optimal market rate (14,7%), for 100% of project feasibility.

To develop the new system, an analysis of the current public transport model was made and, from that, the integrated system was elaborated and analyzed regarding its technical and economic viability, showing it to be a possible solution for public transport, reducing the traveling time to Ananindeua and Marituba 34 and 20%, respectively. In the economic aspect, the proposed model has shown to be unviable regarding the price, with a ticket price almost doubled when compared with the current ticket value, however, some measures can be made to diminish this and make it possible to operate more inexpensively. As to the technical feasibility, the waterway has shown to be navigable, having a minimum depth twice the required value and a minimum wi...

To achieve the objectives of the proposal, a technical and economic analysis model was developed to demonstrate the feasibility of the project with the inclusion of technological features (deep of ships, modes of transport linking the port to its region of land influence, expansion area) and market components (cargo demands, free trade zone, distance from the main centers of world trade) that decisively interfere in the attractiveness of the project. Linked to this proposal, a risk analysis was carried out, including uncertainties involving economic and strategic aspects, with market and technological variables. To achieve the objectives of the study, the Monte C...

This work studied different types of materials in order to identify the material that has better physical condition and cost for replacement of wood as a building material for passenger vessels. Five types of materials were studied: wood, steel, aluminium, fibreglass with Kevlar and fibreglass. Different materials were analysed using mathematical models for preliminary design with the objective to understand and compare the fixed and operational costs for the same vessel. Discussion supported by graphs gives indications to identify materials that have higher chances of success in replacing wood as building material for the river passenger ships in the Amazon region. The life cycle approach was used to evaluate the costs (fixed and operating) of a vessel built with different materials throughout its lifetime.

However, the region lacks research on the performance of the region's port sector. This article aims to analyze the efficiency of the main container terminals in the North of Brazil, using the data envelopment analysis method (DEA). Based on this research, we seek to contribute to improving the efficiency of the analyzed terminals as well as the management of the local port sector.

This port contributes largely in the country's economy through customs and tax revenues, the formation of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and also in international trade. Four criteria (quality of infrastructure and services, equipment productivity, and logistics cost of cargo) were modeled. With the result, the port infrastructure criterion is most important, followed by the port equipment criterion. Showing the importance of each port logistics viability criterion (infrastructure, service, equipment, cost), the alternative long-term logistics viability is preferable to the medium-term and short-term. The application of the AHP shows in its result that for long-term port logistics viability, it is preferable to invest more in modern and quality infrastructure and equipment.
