The characteristics of electrochromic films (WO3, V2O5) prepared by sol-gel-spin coating and a va... more The characteristics of electrochromic films (WO3, V2O5) prepared by sol-gel-spin coating and a vacuum evaporation process were compared to identify a new application of an electrochromic display. Polypyrrole films were prepared by electropolymerization in a pyrrole solution, acetonitrile, and TEPS (tetraethylammonium p-toluenesulfonate). The liquid electrolyte was prepared using LiClO4, propylene carbonate, polymethylmetacrylate, and ethyl acetate. The optical modulation of the electrochromic device was measured as the LiClO4: PMMA weight ratio changed from 10:3 to 10:5. The highest optical modulation value was when the LiClO4: PMMA weight ratio was 10:4. Each type of film was analyzed using a four-point probe, a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), an X-ray diffractometer (XRD), and a UV-vis spectrophotometer (DR/4000H). The ESCA spectra of the WO3 films showed that the tungsten oxidation number decreased in a coloration state. © 2001 Kluwer Academic Publishers

A new analogue of vardenafil, in which the N-ethylpiperazine ring and the sulphonyl group were removed from the vardenafil structure, was identified in the product.

The quality of physician–patient interaction is increasingly being recognized as an essential com... more The quality of physician–patient interaction is increasingly being recognized as an essential component of effective treatment. The present article reports on the development and validation of a brief patient self-report questionnaire (QQPPI) that assesses the quality of physician–patient interactions. Data were gathered from 147 patients and 19 physicians immediately after consultations in a tertiary care outpatient setting. The QQPPI displayed good psychometric properties, with high internal consistency and good item characteristics. The QQPPI total score showed variability between different physicians and was independent of patients’ gender, age, and education. The QQPPI featured high correlations with other quality-related measures and was not influenced by social desirability, or patients’ clinical characteristics. The QQPPI is a brief patient self-report questionnaire that allows assessment of the quality of physician–patient interactions during routine ambulatory care. It can also be used to evaluate physician communication training programs or for educational purposes.

Importin-a is the nuclear import receptor that recognizes cargo proteins which contain classical ... more Importin-a is the nuclear import receptor that recognizes cargo proteins which contain classical monopartite and bipartite nuclear localization sequences (NLSs), and facilitates their transport into the nucleus. To determine the structural basis of the recognition of the two classes of NLSs by mammalian importin-a, we co-crystallized an N-terminally truncated mouse receptor protein with peptides corresponding to the monopartite NLS from the simian virus 40 (SV40) large T-antigen, and the bipartite NLS from nucleoplasmin. We show that the monopartite SV40 large T-antigen NLS binds to two binding sites on the receptor, similar to what was observed in yeast importin-a. The nucleoplasmin NLS-importin-a complex shows, for the ®rst time, the mode of binding of bipartite NLSs to the receptor. The two basic clusters in the NLS occupy the two binding sites used by the monopartite NLS, while the sequence linking the two basic clusters is poorly ordered, consistent with its tolerance to mutations. The structures explain the structural basis for binding of diverse NLSs to the sole receptor protein. Thin films of tungsten-doped vanadium oxide were fabricated on an alumina substrate by spin coati... more Thin films of tungsten-doped vanadium oxide were fabricated on an alumina substrate by spin coating technology. A V 2 O 5 solution was prepared by an inorganic sol-gel method, which was a fairly cheap and effective process. As-coated V 2 O 5 films turned to VO 2 films during heat treatment in a reducing gas flow. Non-doped VO 2 film exhibited the best switching property of 4.0 orders of magnitude of electrical resistance and a small hysteresis of approximately 5 8C width. Tungsten in VO 2 led to a diffuse phase transition and weak jump of electrical resistivity. A reduction of the transition temperature by 15.5 8C/mol was observed for the tungsten doping in this study. #
