In order to carry out the research, spruce seeds from different provenances have been subjected to different treatments: electric field (EF) with 10 V, 30 V, and 50 V voltages and intensity of E = 266V/m, exposure time of 15 and 35 min, and gamma (G) radiation with several treatments (1 Gy-31 min, 1.5 Gy-46 min, 2 Gy-62 min, and 6 Gy-186 min). Under the influence of EF, the best results upon seed germination (80.83%) were recorded when seeds were treated with 30 V for 15 min, for all provenances investigated. Regarding gamma radiation, the highest germination percentage (87.50%) was achieved in T5G when seeds were subjected to 6 Gy for 186 min. It was also considered the interaction between seeds origin and the different EF and G treatments applied to the seeds to induce germination and further seedlings’ development. The results obtained after see...

The land preparation methods used were terraces and pits. We established the saplings maintenance degree in the irst year after planting. To establish the in luence of species and antierosional land preparation on the maintenance of saplings planted and which stroke roots, we placed two experiment (bifactorial). The signi icance of the differences between the tested variants was shown using Duncan (Tuckey) test of multiple comparisons, considering signi icant differences DS 5%. As compared to manna ash, the black locust provided the highest saplings maintenance degree, at an insigni icant difference. Terracing, as antierosional land preparation provides the highest maintenance degree at an insigni icant difference as compared to the pits, no matter the species involved. The variants which provided the highest maintenance degree were manna ash x wattle fence terraces and black locust x wattle fence terraces and the lowest maintenance degree was registered by the manna ash planted in pits.

The structural and biometrical features refer to composition, consistency, thickness index, density index, average diameter, average height, age, production class, stability index. In order to determine these parameters, there were chosen some black pine stands situated on eroded lands in Transylvania Plain. Six testing areas of 300 m3 were set in each stand where there were done observations and measurements. Key words: land erosion, afforestation, black pine stands, structural and biometrical features

This paper is the result of an experiment which took place at the University of Agricultural Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Cluj with forestry teaching staff , when giving scientific explanations. The most memorable professors have always been those who did more than teach the subject matter of some discipline. They espoused an underlying theme that established a perspective or framework within which to structure the details of the subject being taught. This paper describes a theme that reveals the structure of certain scientii¬c explanations relevant to a study of forestry. Because our suggestion emphasizes research explanations that belong to the field of forestry, it helps a student distinguish a sensible explanation from one that is not. The paper is intended to provide an example of a theme for an introduction to forestry that we have found useful. It is neither the only possible theme nor necessarily the best, but it does demonstrate what a “theme in a scienc...

This variation of the damaged trees percentage (defoliation class 2-4) is due mainly to climatic condition, which in the last 20-25 years displays substantial fluctuations, especially concerning rainfall regime, soil water reserve and the thermal balance. Climatic changes determined this fluctuation, which is more and more intense, both at regional and global scale (Badea.O., 2005). In this context, for all species, in the survey period the damage trees percentage (defoliation class 2-4) registered highest values during the years 2001 and 2002 (57.3%, 56.9% respectively) and the lowest values during the years 2004 and 2005 (43.3%, 46% respectively). The resinous species proved to be healthier, with values of th...

The land preparation methods used were terraces and pits. We established the saplings maintenance degree in the first six year after planting. To establish the influence of species and antierosional land preparation on the maintenance of saplings planted and which stroke roots, we placed two experiments, Coasta Mare 1 and 2 (bifactorial). Both experiments were placed so as the data could be statistically processed; showing the variabilities and their causes was done by analyzing the multifactorial variances. The significance of the differences between the tested variants was shown using Duncan (Tuckey) test of multiple comparisons, considerable difference DS 5% . As compared to the sessile oak, the ...

The fertilization has been done with nitrogen (active substance) in dozes of 10 and 20 grams per pit planting. We established the maintenance degree of seedlings in the first and the second year after planting.

The aspects approached and fulfilled during the researches were: - the thoroughgoing study of the results referring to the stational conditions of the degraded lands; - the specification of the ecological characteristics of the forestry species used for re-forestration of degraded lands (the fixing percentage, the maintainance percentage, medium diameter and medium height); - watching the evolution in time of different species and types of forestry cultures, in different degraded lands conditions for previously installed cultures and for newly installed experimental areas; - the specification of the protective and improving effects of the forestry cultures previously installed and on newly installed experimental areas on degraded lands (the stabilization of degrading process of lands, soil improvement, environment protection and improvement) and watching the progressive improvement, in t...

The current study aimed to investigate the effect of different treatments applied to sessile oak ... more The current study aimed to investigate the effect of different treatments applied to sessile oak seeds in order to improve the germination features, development and growth of seedlings. The seeds were subjected to electric field, electromagnetic field and γ rays’ treatments. For the electric field study three distinct voltages (10V, 30V and 50V) and three values of exposure time (15 min., 35 min. and 60 min.) were considered. Displaying the seeds in an electric field for 60 minutes increased the germination rate with 58.89%. The highest value for the seedling’s height was obtained when seeds were exposed for 15 minutes at an intensity of 30V. The interaction between the intensity and the timing showed that treating seeds with 30V for 35 minutes improved significantly the seedlings peculiarities. In regard to the electromagnetic field, the seeds were subjected to a single value of electromagnetic field (B=0,4mT; i=0,680 A) and three values of exposure time: 10 min., 20 min. and 30 mi...

According to current instructions, the regeneration percentage after cutting has to be over 70%. This cannot be achieved in all situations because of the existence of a congregate of various factors that influence both the fructification process and the process of new seed starting. In almost each situation, the process of natural regeneration is completed with the artificial introduction of forest saplings, so as to achieve the established regeneration composition (according to the currently valid instructions). In order to establish the behavior of the saplings produced in nurseries as compared to those produced through natural regeneration, determinations have been made with a view to study vertical growth in these two categories of saplings...
