Therefore, the present study was conducted to explain the existing challenges of community-based undergraduate nursing education in Iran. Methods Ten individual semi-structured interviews were conducted with the faculty members and nursing specialists in this qualitative study. Eight focus group interviews were conducted to the nurses and nursing students using a purpose-based sampling method in 2022. The interviews were recorded and transcribed and then content analysis was done by the Lundman and Granheim method. Results Five themes were obtained from the analysis of participants' responses, which include "weakness in community-based nursing education and curriculum", "treatment-oriented health system and education", "defect in the infrastructure and basic structures of co...

Studies have shown that %80 of Iranian people does not exercise. Therefore, due to the importance of exercise performance and concepts of Theory of Planned Behavior, different studies are needed regarding its related factors according to a theoretical framework. The aim of this descriptive correlational study was to determine factors related to exercise performance according to the Theory of Planned Behavior in female students in 2009. Materials and methods 444 female students were selected by stratified sampling method. Data collection tool was a questionnaire including 6 parts: 1- external variables, 2-attitiude to exercise, 3-subjective norms of exercise, 4- perceived control behavior toward exercise, 5- intention to exercise, and 6- exercise. Content validity index, face validity and reliability of the tool were identified by internal consistency and test-retest methods respe...

The present study was done to investigate the relationship between obesity and OSA in depressed elderly patients. Materials and methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted from 2014 to 2015 on 175 depressed elderly patients referred to health centers of Saqqez, using clustering and available sampling in saqqez. Demographic form, Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) and Berlin Questionnaire were used to gather the data. Data were analyzed by SPSS (version 18) using descriptive statistics, Kolmogorov Smirinov, Mann Whitney- U, Chi-square and Exact Fischer tests. P- value less than 0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Results: 175 elderly depressed patients with mean age (± standard deviation) of 69.42±8 years were studied. 106 peoples (60.6%) were at high risk for OSA. There was a significant rela...

Obstructive sleep apnea is one of the factors that may be associated with difficult intubation. The present study was carried out to investigate the relationship between obstructive sleep apnea and difficult intubation in the elderly. Materials and Methods: This cross- sectional study was conducted in 2015 from February to June on 175 elderly patients using convenience sampling method. In order to gather data Demographic form, Berlin questionnaire and Comark-Lehane Index were used. Data were analyzed by SPSS (version 18) Statistical software and Kolmogorov-Smirnov, independent t-test, Mann-Whitney-u, chi-square tests and Logistic Regression. Results: The mean age and SD of samples were 69.9±9.3 years. There were 18 (26.9%) people with difficult intubation and 10 (9.3%) people with normal intubation at high risk of sleep apnea. The results of this study showed that there was a significant relationship between sleep apnea and difficult intubation, and the risk of sleep apnea in the elderly with difficult intubation was 3.6 times of those with normal intubation (p=0.002, OR=3.6, CI 95%= 1.5-8.9). Conclusion: There is a relationship between obstructive sleep apnea and difficult intubation in the elderly. Therefore, a screening procedure to identify the elderly at high risk of sleep apnea that are candidate for anesthesia seems to be necessary.

The first step to achieve this goal is to determine the factors associated with nurses' work engagement, yet very few studies have been conducted on this subject in Iran. Objectives: This study aimed at investigating the correlation between work engagement and workplace incivility in nurses who were working in selected teaching hospitals of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, Iran, during 2015 and 2016. Methods: In this descriptive correlational study, 516 nurses were selected randomly from teaching hospitals of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences during 2015 and 2016. Data were collected using the demographic questionnaire, the utrecht work engagement scale, and the nursing incivility scale. Results: The means of work engagement and workplace incivility scores were 3.59 ± 1.16 (average) and 2.68 ± 0.65 (low), respectively. A significant negative correlation was found between work engagement and workplace incivility in nurses (P < 0.01, r =-0.27). The findings of the present study revealed that the nurses' work engagement and incivility from physicians were significantly different based on the type of ward. In addition, the mean score of incivility from physicians were significantly different based on different hospitals and work experience. Conclusions: Nursing managers should use proper strategies to improve nurses' work engagement and decrease the incidence of incivility in hospitals and clinical environments.

This study investigated the effect of person and family-centered training via telenursing on the quality of life in patients with COVID-19. Methods: This interventional study was performed on 88 patients with COVID-19 18-65 years and 44 family members referred to the Bank Melli Hospital, Tehran, Iran. The samples were randomly assigned into two groups person-centered and family centered. A cyberspace group including patients and their families was created. Four educational sessions planned (15-30-min-every day) and three sessions planned for completing the questionnaires via phone. The data were collected using demographic characteristics form and the 12-item Short-Form Health Survey version 2 before and 6 weeks after the intervention and were analyzed in SPSS 22 using Chi-square test, paired t-test, and independent t-test. Results: The mean scores of quality-of-life increased significantly in the person-centered group from 26.81 ± 5.15 to 34.4 ± 4.39 before and six weeks after intervention, respectively (p < 0.001). The means scores of quality-of-life increased significantly in the family-centered group from 28.11 ± 4.79 to 35.86 ± 3.85 before and 6 weeks after the intervention, respectively. (p < 0.001). Conclusions: The person and family centered methods increase the mean scores of quality-of-life of patients with COVID-19. The family centered method can be more effective to improve the quality of life of these patients.

This study aimed to identify the motivations of providing care in family caregivers of hemodialysis patients Materials and Methods: This qualitative study was conducted using the conventional content analysis method. Fifteen family caregivers of hemodialysis patients were enrolled in the study via purposive with a maximum variation sampling method. The setting was hemodialysis wards of Tehran teaching hospitals. Data were collected via semi-structured interviews. The analysis was performed using conventional content analysis with MAXQDA version 10. To ensure the trustworthiness of the data, the criteria of Credibility, Dependability, Transferability, and Confirmability were taken into account Results: Fifteen participants (eight women and three men) were interviewed. The majority (eight of them) were spouses. Totally 200 codes, 12 subcategories, four generic categories, and two main categories were extracted. The main categories included Social Motivation (including two generic categories: providing care influenced by norms and culture and providing care inspired by social influence) and Internal motivation (including two generic categories: religious-spiritual motivation to provide care and emotional-moral motivation to provide care). Conclusions: To benefit from the valuable capabilities of family caregivers, must pay attention to their social and internal motivations in providing care. The findings of this study can be helpful for future planning to strengthen internal motivations and improve and guide the external motivations of caregivers.
