By investigating these parameters, we found the conditions to obtain smooth sidewall, high etch rate and balance of chemical and physical etching in the DRIE process. In this paper, the silicon surface was covered by a thin silver patterning, created by lift-off, as a hard mask for the DRIE process. The etched samples were characterised by optical microscopy and mechanical profilometry. The results show smooth sidewall of 136 µm-deep silicon trenches obtained at a high etch rate of 4 µm/min using 5 sccm C 4 F 8 , 8 sccm O 2 and 24 W of bias power.

Variations in cross-linking agents, CS/TPP weight ratio and solution pH were investigated. The chitosan nanoparticles were characterized by several analytical techniques such as FT-IR, XRD, FE_SEM and TEM. Finally, protein loading efficiency (LE) and protein loading capacity (LC) were investigated.

These rigid fibrils serve as skeletal support for the fin fold and as substrates for mesenchymal cell migration. In the adult intact fins, actinotrichia are restricted to the distal domain of the fin. Following fin amputation, actinotrichia also reform during regeneration. The actinodin gene family codes for structural proteins of actinotrichia. We have previously identified cisacting regulatory elements in a 2kb genomic region upstream of the first exon of actinodin1, termed 2P, required for tissue-specific expression in the fin fold ectoderm and mesenchyme during embryonic development. Indeed, 2P contains an ectodermal enhancer in a 150bp region named epi. Deletion of epi from 2P results in loss of ectodermal-specific activity. In the present study, we sought to further characterize the activity of these regulatory sequences throughout fin development and during adult fin regeneration. Using a reporter transgenic approach, we show that a site within the epi region, termed epi3, contains an early mesenchymal-specific repressor. We also show that the larval fin fold ectodermal enhancer within epi3 remains functional in the basal epithelial layer during fin regeneration. We show that the first non-coding exon and first intron of actinodin1 contains a transcriptional enhancer and an alternative promoter that are necessary for the persistence of reporter expression reminiscent of actinodin1 expression during adulthood. Altogether, we have identified cis-acting regulatory elements that are required for tissue-specific expression as well as full recapitulation of actinodin1 expression during adulthood. Furthermore, the characterization of these elements provides us with useful molecular tools for the enhancement of transgene expression in adulthood.

SACE process includes two basic steps which are silver deposition and chemical etching step. Simple electroless silver deposition step using mixture of AgNO 3 and HF was utilized to form silver nanoparticles onto n-type silicon surface. Following chemical etching step was carried out by immersing samples in mixture of HF and H 2 O 2. Concentration of AgNO 3 in eletroless deposition step and concentration of HF in chemical etching step were investigated to get minimum reflectance. The surface of sample was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and sample reflectance was measured at the wavelength range from 350-1100 nm. The results show that reflectance depends on AgNO 3 concentration in electroless deposition step and HF concentration in etching step and the minimum solar-weighted reflectance is 1.74%. This method can be considered as simple, inexpensive method to effectively increase roughness and suppress light reflection for photovoltaic, optoelectronic, sensor, photonic applications.

A pattered silver thin film was deposited on a silicon sample by the lift-off method. Subsequently the newly fabricated sample was anisotropically etched by Bosch DRIE process. Some parameters of Bosch DRIE process such as bias power, duration of etching step and passivation step, oxygen presence were studied to explore the dependence of silicon channel depth and etched shape profile on these parameters. An optimized process was utilized to fabricate a featured silicon channel with vertical, smooth sidewalls and an overall good uniformity. The silicon channel has four arrays of microposts with various distances between microposts from 25 μm to 100 μm. The depth of the silicon channel was about 150 μm. After that, silicon substrate was bonded with mica lid by adhesive bonding method to form the completed filtration microfluidic chip. The samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), mechanical profilometer (DEKTAK 6 M), optical microscopy (Olympus MX51). In this paper a test was performed to demonstrate how the microfluidic chip works by pumping solution with many various sizes of particles through the inlet port of the microfluidic chip and obtaining a solution with desired particles sizes (smaller than 25 μm) through another port. Moreover, the chip could be pumped de-ionized water through outlet port for backwash in order to make this microfluidic chip reusable. Finally, a few applications of microfluidic chips are presented to illustrate the advantages of this technology and the potential for future development.

This important step promotes the development of the fabrication technology of electronic devices on a flexible substrate, also known as flexible electronic devices. Nevertheless, this technology has some disadvantages such as low surface uniformity and high resistivity. In this paper, parameters of copper electroplating were studied, such as the ratio of copper (II) sulfate (CuSO4) concentration to sulfuric acid (H2SO4) concentration and electroplating current density, in order to obtain low resistivity and high surface uniformity of the copper layer. Samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), four-point probe, and surface profiler. The results showed that the sample resistivity could be controlled from about 2.0 to about 3.5 μΩ cm, and the lowest obtained resistivity was 1.899 μΩ cm. In addition, surface uniformity of the electroplated copper layer was also acceptable. The thickness of the copper layer was about 10 μm with an error of about 0.5 μm. The most suitable conditions for the electroplating process were CuSO4 concentration of 0.4 mol l−1, H2SO4 concentration of 1.0 mol l−1, and low electroplating current density of 10–20 mA cm−2. All experiments were performed on a flexible polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate.

The book provides a collection of contemporary and useful information relating to the treatment of water and wastewater for municipal, sanitary, and industrial applications. It can provide the practitioner with a thorough and rich review of the underlying science and engineering of wastewater technology. It is a helpful and i.nstructive addition to the basic reference library. Given the breadth of operations and technologies implemented by water users and managers, it is a noteworthy accomplishment that the author has been able to successfully reduce the knowledge base to the practical limits of a single volume text. This has been accomplished by giving principal attention to those unit operations and processes which have been used in general applications and have been of interest to the broadest range of users. More complex, specific or detailed information is found elsewhere. Recent, potentially innovative technologies that have not seen widespread application are not discussed. Although the material is primarily descriptive in nature, the text is extensively supplemented by numerous diagrams, drawings, tables and charts. Theory of equipment and processes is provided in many instances and aids in clarifying discussions of applications and operations. From this, the reader can acquire a reasonable appreciation of the subject matter. A thoughtful inclusion is a glossary of terms. It is somewhat disappointing to find that there are practically no references provided from which the interested reader can obtain further, more detailed information. Taken as a whole, the text should be a useful overview reference for civil, environmental, manufacturing, petrochemical, and chemical engineers, as well as plant operators and technicians.
