SP110 is a promising candidate target for controlling TB infections. However, several studies associating SP110 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with TB have yielded conflicting results. This may be partly resolved by studying other genes associated with SP110, such as MYBBP1A and RELA. Here, we genotyped 6 SP110 SNPs, 8 MYBBP1A SNPs and 5 RELA SNPs in 702 Chinese pulmonary TB patients and 425 healthy subjects using MassARRAY and SNaPshot methods. Using SNP-based analysis with Bonferroni correction, rs3809849 in MYBBP1A [Pcorrected (cor) = 0.0038] and rs9061 in SP110 (Pcor = 0.019) were found to be significantly associated with TB. Furthermore, meta-analysis of rs9061 in East Asian populations showed that the rs9061 T allele conferred significant risk for TB [P = 0.002, pooled odds ratio (OR), 1.24, 95 % confidence interval (CI) = 1.08-1.43]. The MYBBP1A GTCTTGGG haplotype and haplotypes CGACCG/TGATTG within SP110 were found to be markedly and significantly associated with TB (P = 2.00E-06, 5.00E-6 and 2.59E-4, respectively). Gene-based analysis also demonstrated that SP110 and MYBBP1A were each associated with TB (Pcor = 0.011 and 0.035, respectively). The logistic regression analysis results supported interactions between SP110 and MYBBP1A, indicating that subjects carrying a GC/CC genotype in MYBBP1A and CC genotype in SP110 possessed the high risk of developing TB (P = 1.74E-12).

Here we present an integrated genomic and transcriptomic analysis of 335 primary lung adenocarcinomas and 35 corresponding lymph node metastases from Chinese patients. Altogether 13 significantly mutated genes are identified, including the most commonly mutated gene TP53 and novel mutation targets such as RHPN2, GLI3 and MRC2. TP53 mutations are furthermore significantly enriched in tumours from patients harbouring metastases. Genes regulating cytoskeleton remodelling processes are also frequently altered, especially in metastatic samples, of which the high expression level of IQGAP3 is identified as a marker for poor prognosis. Our study represents the first large-scale sequencing effort on lung adenocarcinoma in Asian patients and provides a comprehensive mutational landscape for both primary and metastatic tumours. This may thus form a basis for personalized medical...
Gap opening at the Dirac point of the single-layer graphene with periodic scalar and vector poten... more Gap opening at the Dirac point of the single-layer graphene with periodic scalar and vector potentials has been theoretically investigated under the continuum model. The symmetry analysis indicates that the two-fold degeneracy at the Dirac point can be lifted when the potentials break both the chiral symmetry and the time-reversal symmetry. A gap equation at the Dirac point is obtained analytically with perturbation theory. It is shown that a mass term at the Dirac point would be generated by coupling of vector and scalar potentials. This gap equation could be considered as a criterion for gap opening at the Dirac point, which is confirmed by the numerical calculation. Furthermore, the bandgap from the gap equation agrees well with the exact result, when the applied potentials are weak.

We conduct a systematic review of the literatures on the impact of maternal hypothyroidism on neonatal outcomes. We searched Pubmed, Embase and the Cochrane Controlled Trials Register databases complemented by manual searches in article references without language restrictions published from 1946 to April 2015. Nine trials are included. For preterm birth in pregnancies of hypothyroidism women, there is an increased tendency (RR 1.18; 95% CI 0.99 to 1.40; p = 0.06). The same result is seen relating to the low birth weight (RR 1.31; 95% CI 1.00 to 1.72; p = 0.05). Regarding small for gestational age there is no significant increase. Children who were born from mothers with hypothyroidism during pregnancy have increased birth weight (MD 32.35, 95% CI 7.46 to 57.24; p = 0.01). The impact of maternal hypothyroidism shows a trend of reduced risk of large for gestational age (RR 1.17; 95% CI 0.99 to ...

Here, we report the first evidence that infection by TYLCV alters the host preferences of invasive B. tabaci B (Middle East-Minor Asia 1) and Q (Mediterranean genetic group), in which TYLCV-free B. tabaci Q preferred to settle on TYLCV-infected tomato plants over healthy ones. TYLCV-free B. tabaci B, however, preferred healthy tomato plants to TYLCV-infected plants. In contrast, TYLCV-infected B. tabaci, either B or Q, did not exhibit a preference between TYLCV-infected and TYLCV-free tomato plants. Based on gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMS)analysis of plant terpene volatiles, significantly more b-myrcene, thymene, b-phellandrene, caryophyllene, (1)-4-carene, and a-humulene were released from the TYLCV-free tomato plants than from the TYLCV-infected ones. The results indicate TYLCV can alter the host preferences of its vector Bemisia tabaci B and Q. B emisia tabaci (Gennadius) (Hemiptera: Aleyrodidae) originated in the tropics and subtropics 1 and has rapidly spread as a consequence of the international trade in flowers and other nursery stock. Because of its wide host range, rapid propagation, and superior ability to transmit virus, B. tabaci has become one of the most important pests in field crops worldwide 2 . B. tabaci is a complex of numerous genetically distinct populations, previously referred to as biotypes and now recognized as cryptic species 2-4 . There are about 24 cryptic species of B. tabaci, including the two most widely distributed and invasive biotypes, B and Q, hereafter referred to as B and Q whiteflies 5 . B. tabaci is the only known vector of Tomato yellow leaf curl virus (TYLCV), which seriously reduces tomato production and quality. TYLCV is a single-stranded DNA (ssDNA) plant virus in the genus begomovirus, family Geminiviridae, that originated in the Middle East 6,7 . Begomoviruses are transmitted by B. tabaci in a circulative manner and persist in the whitefly vector 8-11 .

Thirty-six male mice were fed with standard food (SF) (n = 9) and HFD (n = 27), respectively. Five weeks later, 9 mice fed with HFD were subjected to ZAG expression plasmid DNA transfection by liposome transfection method, and another 9 mice to negative control plasmid transfection. Two weeks later, serum ZAG level in the mice was assayed by Western blot, and the effects of ZAG over-expression on body weight, body fat, serum biochemical indexes, and adipose tissue of obese mice were evaluated. The mRNA expressions of fatty acid synthase (FAS) and hormone-sensitive lipase (HSL) in liver tissue were determined by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction. Serum ZAG level significantly lowered in simple HFD-fed mice in comparison to SF-fed mice (0.51 +/- 0.10 AU vs. 0.75 +/- 0.07 AU, P < 0.01). Further statistical analy...

Zinc-α2-glycoprotein (ZAG) has recently been proposed as a new adipokine involved in body weight regulation. The purpose of this study is to investigate serum levels of ZAG in patients with hypertension and its association with related characteristics. Methods. 32 hypertension patients and 42 normal controls were recruited and the relationship between serum ZAG, total and high molecular weight (HMW) adiponectin, and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNFα) determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and metabolic-related parameters was investigated. Results. Serum ZAG concentrations were significantly lowered in patients with hypertension compared with healthy controls (61.4 ± 32 versus 78.3 ± 42 μg/mL, P < 0.05). The further statistical analysis demonstrated that serum ZAG levels were negatively correlated with waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) (r = -0.241, P < 0.05) and alanine aminotransferase (ALT) (r = -0.243, P < 0.05). Additionally, serum HMW adiponectin signific...

The clinical data of 116 hemodialysis patients with pulmonary infection were analyzed. The majority of the 82 pathogens isolated from the sputa of patients were Gram-negative bacteria (accounting for 71.95%). The results of the drug sensitivity test suggested that Gram-negative bacilli had low resistance rates to piperacillin and tazobactam, imipenem and amikacin, while Gram-positive cocci had a low resistance rate to vancomycin. All resistance rates of the pathogens to other common antimicrobials were >50%. The pathogens resulting in lung infections in hemodialysis patients were mainly Gram-negative bacteria and were significantly resistant to various antibacterials. Results of the this study demonstrate that pathological examination should be performed as early as possible and effective antimicrobial agents should be chose...

Non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients harboring sensitive epidermal growth factor receptor ... more Non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients harboring sensitive epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations derive greater benefits from EGFR-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) than those with wild type tumors. However, whether EGFR mutation status is associated with the efficacy of cytotoxic chemotherapy or prognosis in advanced NSCLC patients remained controversial. Thus, we sought to conduct a meta-analysis to answer this question. Electronic databases were searched for eligible literatures. The primary outcomes were objective response rate (ORR) and 6-month progression-free survival (PFS) rate. The pooled odds ratio (OR) was calculated using random-effects model. Subgroup analyses stratified by study types, EGFR mutation detection methods, chemotherapy regimens, and patient origins were proposed. A total of 14 studies involving 1,772 advanced NSCLC patients with known EGFR mutation status who had received first-line chemotherapy were included. Patients with positive EG...

Their catalytic performances for the synthesis of n-butyl acetate were investigated. The catalysts were characterized by means of XRD, IR, XPS, FT-IR of adsorbed pyridine and NH3-TPD. The experimental results showed that S2O82 −/ZnFexAl2 − xO4 solid acid catalysts maintained the spinel structure as well as the support of ZnFexAl2 − xO4. Fe3 + ions were well incorporated and highly dispersed into the spinel lattice. S2O82 −/ZnFe0.15Al1.85O4 exhibited the maximum conversion of acetic acid with 98.2%. Moreover, S2O82 −/ZnFe0.15Al1.85O4 showed better reusability, which remained above 72.7% conversion of acetic acid even after being used five times.

E-government is a brand new domain in recent years. When we use the e-government system to process data, we need to choose what data is useful and what kind of new information we can get from the log file or from the database. Because of the special characters of

However, whether patients with coexisting pulmonary diseases are at greater risk of developing various histologic types of lung cancer remains elusive.
