Albizia myriophylla Benth bark is used in making of Hamei , a starrer which is added to produce better quality alcohol. The plant is continuously declining due overexploitation, forest fires and loss of habitat. It is also assessed that on account of the population reduction the species can be assigned as vulnerable. Information presented in this paper was gathered from informants using semi structure questionnaires on utilization, cultural importance, medicinal uses and economical aspects of the traditional beverages. More than 50 % of the total households practiced making traditional beverages in their homes particularly by the women folks. There are five types of traditional beverages prepared by the community namely Atingba, Waiyu, Pukyu, Kallei and Khachi . They were used in several sociocultural activities and rituals. Moreove...

Research paper thumbnail of Highly efficient endo’- selective synthesis of (dispiro 3,2′-pyrrolidinyl) bisoxindoles containing three contiguous chiral stereocenters with two contiguous quaternary spirostereocenters

Journal of Chemical Sciences

An efficient, atom economical, one-pot synthesis of endo’- selective (dispiro 3,2′-pyrrolidinyl) ... more An efficient, atom economical, one-pot synthesis of endo’- selective (dispiro 3,2′-pyrrolidinyl) bisoxindole containing three contiguous chiral stereocenters with two contiguous quaternary spirostereo centers have been achieved by three-component reaction of isatins, malononitrile (cyanoacetic ester) and 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds in water in the presence of L-proline. One-pot, azomethine ylide cycloaddition with a dipolarophile without using any catalyst have also been achieved in good yields. This new methodology offers many advantages of catalyst-free, mild reaction conditions, shorter reaction time, environmental friendliness, regio- and stereoselective processes in higher yields. Synopsis: One-pot, azomethine ylide cycloaddition with a dipolarophile without using any catalyst provides endo’- selective (dispiro 3,2′-pyrrolidinyl) bisoxindole containing three contiguous chiral stereocenters with two contiguous quaternary spirostereo centers have been achieved in good yield. The reactions preceded under mild reaction conditions without any catalyst yields high regio- and stereoselective products up to 55–99%.

However, ethnic variations in the contribution of various risk factors to complex diseases have been scarcely studied. Our study examined such variations in two ethnic groups in India, namely, Meiteis of Manipur (northeast India) and Aggarwals of Delhi (north India). Through random sampling, we selected 635 participants from the Meitei community and 181 Aggarwals from the Aggarwal Dharmarth Hospital, Delhi. Patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) and hypertension were identified based on their recent medical diagnostic history. Anthropometric parameters such as height, weight, waist and hip circumferences along with physiological parameters (blood pressures, both systolic and diastolic) and biochemical parameter (lipid profile) were measured for all study participants. Patient parameters were available from the medica...

The bacilli in the sputum can be detected microscopically by ZN stain and fluorochrome stain. Objectives : To study the efficacy of fluorescence microscopy in the diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis in comparison to Ziehl-Neelsen staining and culture of sputum samples from patients suspected of pulmonary tuberculosis. Materials and methods : 306 sputum samples collected from 102 patients suspected of pulmonary tuberculosis were processed by the Petroff's method, and subjected to Ziehl-Neelsen staining (ZN), fluorescent Auramine-O staining (AO) and culture on modified Lowenstein-Jensen media (gold standard) for detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Positive smears were graded according to Forbes BA et al, and culture isolates were biochemically tested for confirmation of species. Results : Out of 102 patients,...
