Its etiopathogenesis and trigger factors still remain unclear. Parapsoriasis cases carry an increased risk of transformation into cutaneous T cell lymphoma. In the literature, there is no data about Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) frequency in parapsoriasis. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between H. pylori infection and parapsoriasis.Materials and Methods: The study included thirty patients with parapsoriasis who had no dispeptic complaint and thirty healthy individuals. The patient group was divided into two groups as patients with small plaque parapsoriasis (SPP) and those with large plaque parapsoriasis (LPP) based on clinical examination. Carbon 14 urea breath test was performed to evaluate presence of H. pylori in both patient and control groups. Results: Parapsoriasis cases had a significantly higher rate (18/30, 60.0%) of H. pylori positivity than controls...

In this review, we focus on the focal geometric and functional tissue aspects of the LV septal base, since basal septal hypertrophy (BSH), as the early imaging biomarker of LV remodeling due to hypertensive heart disease, is detected in cross-sectional clinic studies. In addition, the validation of BSH by animal studies using third generation microimaging and relevant clinical observations are also discussed in the report. Finally, an evaluation of both human and animal quantitative imaging studies and the importance of combined cardiac imaging methods and stress-induction in the separation of adaptive and maladaptive phases of the LV remodeling are pointed out. As a result, BSH, as the early imaging biomarker and quantitative follow-up of functional analysis in hypertension, could possibly contribute to e...

The aim of this study was to evaluate the response according to the12th-month results of thyroid cancer patients and to investigate the changes in response level during follow-up. Materials and Methods: The study included 97 patients, comprising 88 (90.7%) females and 9 (9.3%) males, with a mean age of 41.68±13.25 years. None of the patients had lymph node or distant metastasis and all received RAI therapy. Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), thyroglobulin (TG), and anti-TG levels and neck USG were examined in the 12th-month. Response to therapy was evaluated as an excellent response, biochemical incomplete response, structural incomplete response, or indeterminate response. Results: In the 12th month, 80 patients (82.47%) had excellent response, 13 patients (13.40%) had an indeterminate response, 3 patients (3.09%) had structural incomplete response and 1 patient (1.03 %) had bio...

Material and methods: Sixty-eight patients with a mean age of 62.43 ± 12.78 years were included in this study retrospectively. Sixty-five patients had biopsy or surgery after PET/CT, which revealed pathological diagnoses of malign primary tumors, while primary tumor site could not be detected in three patients with histopathological examination. We evaluated the primary site of CUP with [ 18 F]FDG PET/CT. Results: Primary sites of three patients were not determined by histopathological examination. Malign lesions indicating the primary site of tumor were identified in 52 of 68 patients with PET/CT correctly. The primary tumor was lung cancer in 14 patients, cholangiocellular cancer in 9 patients, lymphoma in 9 patients, pancreas cancer in 6 patients, gastric cancer in 4 patients, ovary cancer in 4 patients, colon cancer in 4 patients, breast cancer in 3 patients, hepatocellular cancer in 2 patients, rectal cancer in 2 patients, sarcoma in 2 patients, esophagus, renal cell cancer, squamous cell cancer, endometrium cancer, malign melanoma, and multiple myeloma in 1 patient with histopathological examination. PET/CT was false positive in one patient. There were 13 patients in whom primary tumor could not be localized by PET/CT, but was diagnosed by histopathological evaluation. Conclusions: PET/CT should be the first-line diagnostic tool for CUP, other diagnostic imaging tools should be applied after a negative whole-body PET/CT.

Abnormalities in myocardial blood flow (MBF) detected by positron emission tomography (PET) are common in HC, but a PET marker that identifies patients at risk of sudden cardiac death is lacking. We hypothesized that disparities in regional myocardial perfusion detected by PET would identify patients with HC at risk of ventricular arrhythmias. To test this hypothesis, we quantified global and regional MBFs by NH-PET at rest and at stress, and developed a heterogeneity index to assess MBF heterogeneity in 133 symptomatic patients with HC. The MBF heterogeneity index was computed by dividing the highest by the lowest regional MBF value, at rest and after vasodilator stress, in each patient. High stress MBF heterogeneity was defined as an index of ≧1.85. Patients with HC were stratified by the presence or the absence of ventricular arrhythmias, defined as sustained ventricular tachycardia (VT)...

Quantification of myocardial blood flow (MBF) by positron emission tomography (PET) is important ... more Quantification of myocardial blood flow (MBF) by positron emission tomography (PET) is important for investigation of angina in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). Several software programs exist for MBF quantification, but they have been mostly evaluated in patients (with normal cardiac geometry), referred for evaluation of coronary artery disease (CAD). Software performance has not been evaluated in HCM patients who frequently have hyperdynamic LV function, LV outflow tract (LVOT) obstruction, small LV cavity size, and variation in the degree/location of LV hypertrophy. We compared results of MBF obtained using PMod, which permits manual segmentation, to those obtained by FDA-approved QPET software which has an automated segmentation algorithm. N-ammonia PET perfusion data were acquired in list mode at rest and during pharmacologic vasodilation, in 76 HCM patients and 10 non-HCM patients referred for evaluation of CAD (CAD group.) Data were resampled to create static, ECG-gated and...

The etiopathogenesis of the disease still unknown, and recently the role of Helicobacter pylori (HP) is overlooked. RAU frequency and etiologic factors of HP positive patients have been investigated in this study. Materials and Methods: 64 patients who attended to Mustafa Kemal University Department of Nuclear Medicine and presented with positive HP were included in the study. A questionnaire about sociodemographic characteristics and etiologies for RAU was administered to the patients. Results: The mean age of 64 patients determined a HP infection with C-14 urea breath test was 54.1 ± 19.3. 35(54.7%) of 64 patients were females , 29(45.3 %) of 64 patients were males. Smoking prevalence rate were 65.6%. 43.8 % of patients had RAU 1-3 times per year , 35.9 % more than 3 times. 35.9 % of the patients had RAU in tongue, 28.1% of the patients had RAU on lips, tongue and cheek. 42% of the patients had minor, 51.6 % of patients had major, 6.4% of patients had herpetiform ulcers. The average degree of pain (score out of ten) were found 7.39 ± 1.54. There was correlation between the number of aphthae in the past year and the degree of pain. The degree of pain in herpetiform ulcers were higher. Familial history was found to be 32.8%. 68.7 % of the patients had reflux. 51.6 % of the patients declared hoarseness. Conclusion: High incidence of RAU in HP positive patients and patients with reflux may cause the idea that HP may be suspected to be an etiologic factor of RAU.

Relative renal function of 128 children who applied to three hospitals from 2009 to 2011 were analyzed retrospectively. The mean value measured with 99mTc-DTPA and 99mTc-DMSA were 51.58 ± 14.95 and 51.96 ± 14.99 for the right kidney, 47.87 ± 15.27 and 47.94 ± 15.17 for the left kidney, respectively. A significant positive correlation was found between the relative renal functions (r = 0.963, P < 0.001). In Bland-Altman plots, the mean difference between two methods was 0.7 and the correlation limits were between 10.1 and-10.8. As a result, although 99mTc-DMSA is accepted as the most reliable method for the determination of relative renal function, 99mTc-DTPA can be another choice for the calculation of relative renal function without a complementary DMSA scan partic...

In hypertensive patients, progressive left ventricular (LV) contractility deterioration is detectable by gated single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) myocardial perfusion scintigraphy9. We planned this study to explore the agreement in ejection fraction (EF) determination between 2 dimensional echocardiography and gated SPECT analysis in selected group of patients with hypertension. We studied 26 consecutive patients (mean age 56.5 ± 8.8 years; 6 men) with hypertension. Quantitative contractility analysis by both echocardiography and SPECT at rest was performed to investigate the agreement between two diagnostic tests. EF at rest was greater than 55 % in all patients. All patients had a clinical presentation of atypical chest pain. Therefore, in addition to quantitative contractility analysis at rest by echocardiography and myocardial SPE...

Nine donors underwent hepatobiliary scintigraphy with intravenous injection of Tc-99m mebrofenin 1 day before and during the first week after left liver lobectomy. Five donors also underwent additional scintigraphy more than 1 year postsurgery. Images were acquired every second for the first minute, and then every minute for the next 40 minutes. Hepatic arterial perfusion index and portal perfusion index(PPI) were calculated from the images acquired during the first minute. For the function phase the computed parameters included: hepatic extraction efficiency, (HEE), time to appearance of activity in the intrahepatic biliary channels, and in the intestine, time to half maximal activity, and activity retained in the liver parenchyma at 40 minutes. Time to appearance of intrahepatic biliary channels and of intestinal ac...

AS patients have approximately two times more risk of mortality than the normal population. One reason for this increase in mortality is increased cardiovascular risk. In this study, we have aimed to evaluate myocardial perfusion and left ventricular function using 99m Tc-MIBI gated myocardial perfusion single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). Material and methods: The study group consisted of 28 AS patients (19 men, 9 women), and mean age 39.46 ± 10.98 years. All patients underwent 99m Tc-MIBI gated myocardial perfusion SPECT with the same day protocol. Results: We detected various risk factors including smoking habits in 12, family history of cardiovascular disease in 12, hypertension in 3, hyperlipidemia in 9 patients. We performed a myocardial perfusion SPECT for each patient and found normal perfusion pattern in SPECT images. Out of 28 patients, eight patients had normal perfusion but wall motion abnormalities. Conclusion: We detected that myocardial perfusion is preserved in the patients with AS. However, left ventricular wall motion abnormalities are seen. We concluded that ankylosing spondylitis may be associated with microvascular dysfunction and gated myocardial perfusion scintigraphy could be valuable in AS patients for the evaluation of LV function even if the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI) score are low and the disease duration shorter.
