Superacid VNU-11-SO 4 , a modified metal-organic framework by post-synthetic treatment with a sul... more Superacid VNU-11-SO 4 , a modified metal-organic framework by post-synthetic treatment with a sulfuric acid solution, has been considered as a promising heterogeneous catalyst in the isomerization of glucose to fructose and further dehydration to form 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) due to its possession of both Lewis and Brønsted acid sites. In this work, we focused on using VNU-11-SO 4 for the optimization of the conversion of fructose and glucose into HMF using an ionic liquid as a green solvent. The highest yields of HMF from glucose and fructose could be obtained in 28% (140 C, 8 h) and 86% (110 C, 3 h), respectively, with the use of VNU-11-SO 4 catalyst in 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ionic liquid. Recycling examination of the catalyst showed only a slight decrease in the HMF yield, implying its potential industrial application in biomass transformation.

A new labdane diterpenoid, leojaponicin (1), a novel norlabdane, methyl 15,16-dinor-7-oxolabda-8-... more A new labdane diterpenoid, leojaponicin (1), a novel norlabdane, methyl 15,16-dinor-7-oxolabda-8-ene-14-oate (2), along with four known labdanes, hispanone (3), leoheteronins A (4) and B (5), 15-methoxyleoheteronin B (6), and three norlabdanes, 14,15,16-trinor-7-oxolabda-8-ene-13-oic acid (7), methyl 14,15,16-trinor-7-oxolabda-8-ene-13-oate (8), 14,15-dinor-8-labdene-7,13-dione (9), and a steroid, stigmast-4-ene-3-one (10), were isolated from a hexane extract of Leonurus japonicus. Their structures were determined using spectroscopic methods, mainly 1-D and 2-D NMR. Compounds 7 and 8 were previously semisynthesized but are reported here for the first time as naturally occurring compounds. In addition, α-glucosidase inhibitory activity of the isolated compounds was evaluated and compound 6 exhibited the strongest effect with IC 50 value of 26.7 μM (compared with the positive control acarbose, IC 50 = 214.5 μM).

Most of wastewater generated from aquaculture farming contained highly saline effluents. In addition, the maintenance of good water quality was essential for optimum growth and survival of shrimp. This study aimed to evaluate the ability of Membrane-less Microbial Fuel Cells (MFCs) to treat wastewater for recirculation of shrimp culture wastewater, and improvement in the growth performance of Penaeus vannamei (White Leg Shrimp). Six MFCs models were built with locally available materials such as: polyvinyl chloride (PVC), anaerobic sludge, carbon cloth anode and cathode electrodes, granular graphite, glass wool and glass bead. Saigon Port within the port system of the Vietnam Maritime sector is one the port having highest ... more Saigon Port within the port system of the Vietnam Maritime sector is one the port having highest throughput and productivity in the country. The air quality in the area around the port is polluted. The aim of this study is to calculate air pollutant emissions from ocean-going vessels (OGVs), harbour craft (HC), cargo handling equipment (CHE), road vehicles and power plant within the port. Then the air emissions results are used for modelling air quality in Saigon Port. The results of air quality modelling are used to design emissions abatement strategies. The results of air emission inventories show that total emissions of all pollutants are dominated by OGVs and harbor cranes. Emissions from OGVs are mainly during hotelling due to the long times spent at berth, while harbor cranes emissions are high because of the extended usage and high power rating. Based on the papers with relevant theories and literature included, this study gave an overview of the impact of extrinsic cues related to cosmetic products such as brand, price and country-of-origin (COO) on female consumers, and also the cosmetic industry in Vietnam. The results may help generate a possible model or basis for the future research on consumer behavior.

In this work, we focused on using VNU-11-SO 4 for the optimization of the conversion of fructose and glucose into HMF using an ionic liquid as a green solvent.
