These electromagnetic disturbances can cover a large inierval of frequencies and can be present in indwtrial, domestic as well as commercial systems. As main negative effects we can mention the high order harmonics, voltage fluctuations, picker and disturbances with high slew-rates. The monitoring of the PQ of supply networks is then an issue of worlakide inierest. It is frequently indispensable to measure PQ indexes in wide electric power plant or in indwtrial :ones. To this aim a low-cost smart Web sensor has been designed and implemented to acquire, process and transmit &ta over a 802.3 network. It is organized in multi micro controllers system: thej?rst one dedicated to the data acquisition and the other to data processing, dynamic HTML pages construction and TCP/IP stack management. Key features of the rea1i:ed device are low-cost, data processing and remote communication capabilities, ihe possibility to provide daie with any iniemet browser. In the paper the main steps of design, implemeniation and characteri:ation of the proposed system are given.

In this field, one of the most important parameter is the flicker effect, a phenomenon due to luminance fluctuations of the lighting caused by voltage variations. The IEC standardized the implementation of a flickermeter, to supply information about the human reaction to the voltage amplitude modulation [1,2]. Starting from a different flicker measurement approach proposed by the authors [3], in this paper a low-cost smart flicker sensor has been designed and applied. The proposed sensor can transmit data over a TCP-IP network, in order to allow for a remote monitoring of power quality. The performance of the proposed device has been compared with a standard flickermeter and the main experiment results reported.

Key features of the realised device are low-cost, data processing and remote communication capabilities, the possibility to provide date with any Internet browser. In the paper the main steps of design, implementation and characterization of the proposed system are given.
