The present article focuses on the Italian translation of the Russian fairy tale by Aleksey Nikol... more The present article focuses on the Italian translation of the Russian fairy tale by Aleksey Nikolaevich Tolstoy (1882-1945) Zolotoy klyuchik, ili Priklyucheniya Buratino (The Little Golden Key, or the Adventures of Burattino, 1935). Proceeding from the recent trends of international Translation Theory, the paper examines the main 'difficulties' or 'challenges' of the source text, e.g., anisomorphisms, connotations, neologisms, realia and idioms. We will also consider the employment of different stylistic registers in the tale, which are often connected to the characters' 'expressive aura' and to thick intertextual allusions to the Russian Silver Age. Our lexical and stylistic choices in the process of translation will be analyzed with regard to the dominants of the original text and to the specifics of Russian (and Soviet) children's literature of the suggested timeline. Some solutions proposed in the two Italian versions of the '80s will also be taken into account, questioning the opportunity and the main orientations of a new translation in relation to the kind of 'implied readers' expected.
Negli ultimi anni il poema in prosa Moskva-Petu\u161ki (1970), su cui si basano la fama e l\u2019... more Negli ultimi anni il poema in prosa Moskva-Petu\u161ki (1970), su cui si basano la fama e l\u2019aura leggendaria che circondano lo scrittore russo Venedikt Erofeev (1938-1990), ha suscitato un interesse sempre crescente. Sia in Russia, sia in Occidente ne sono state proposte numerose letture e interpretazioni, che spaziano dall\u2019ambito contenutistico a quello formale, e mettono in luce svariati aspetti del testo. L\u2019attenzione della critica ha contribuito in modo significativo ad ampliare la conoscenza dell\u2019opera, inizialmente piuttosto incerta e lacunosa anche per ragioni di carattere biografico e filologico. Le analisi contemporanee, inoltre, permettono una collocazione pi\uf9 solida del poema nel contesto culturale russo e in quello sovietico coevo, senza ridurne la complessit\ue0 e la ricchezza semantica. As is well known, in 1935 the famous Soviet writer Aleksey Nikolaevich Tolstoy (1883–1945) wrote ... more As is well known, in 1935 the famous Soviet writer Aleksey Nikolaevich Tolstoy (1883–1945) wrote the fairy tale Zolotoj klyuchik, ili Priklyucheniya Buratino (The Little Golden Key, or the Adventures of Buratino) inspired by Collodi’s Pinocchio (1883), that he read and loved some years earlier. Considering the substantial relationships between the two works, the present paper aims at analysing them from two main points of view: a) the different connotations attributed to animal and human characters; b) the authentic nature of the “implied reader” (W. Iser) in the two texts, regardless of the moralistic or ideological contexts in which they were respectively conceived.Are they really to be considered as “fairy tales for children”? To what kind of child are they addressed?

The present article is devoted to the poetics of literary titles and their manifold meanings and ... more The present article is devoted to the poetics of literary titles and their manifold meanings and functions in literary works. Due to their formal, stylistic and/or semantic characteristics, titles represent one of the most challenging and controversial elements in literary translations. In fact, they often refer to specific cultural aspects, idiomatic expressions or realia coming from the original linguistic context, which are not so easy to reproduce in translation with the same effects. Moreover, in some cases, editors or publishers prefer to propose specific titles slightly or consistently different from the originals for “marketing” strategies. Starting from Gerard Genette’s (1930-2018) seminal study on the topic, we will focus on some titles of Italian translations of Russian literary works of the Nineteenth and Twentieth centuries, aiming to analyse the reasons underlying different choices. Il presente studio propone un'analisi delle diverse rifrazioni simboliche del 'viaggio... more Il presente studio propone un'analisi delle diverse rifrazioni simboliche del 'viaggio' in Moskva-Petushki (1970), il noto poema in prosa dello scrittore russo Venedikt Erofeev (1938-1990). Attraverso un dettagliato excursus critico sulle caratteristiche linguistiche e stilistiche del testo ne vengono messe in luce la ricchezza semantica e la densita di riferimenti culturali. Le dinamiche del movimento e della stasi, infatti, costituiscono uno dei motivi conduttori piu rilevanti fra le molteplici schegge narrative che compongono l'opera, e permettono una sua migliore collocazione nel contesto della letteratura del XX secolo.

The old villagers’ figures аre analyzed on the background of the peculiar chronotope in which they live, organically connected to wild Siberian nature. The study focuses in particular on the psychological portraits of old characters in the novels Poslednyj srok The Last Term, 1970 and Proščanie s Matëroj Farewell to Matyora, 1976. The paper is devoted to an analysis of the psychological and anthropological characterization of aged characters in Russian Twentieth-century literature, namely in Juriĭ Trifonov’s (1925-1981) and Valentin Rasputin’s (1937-2015) works. Both writers, in fact, delineated remarkable images of old human figures on the complex background of Brežnev’s Soviet Union. Taking into due consideration the differences connected to the authors’ inspiration and main subjects − they were traditionally juxtaposed as exponents of the so-called “gorodskaja” and “derevenskaja proza” −, the study proposes a comparison between the distinguishing features and affinities in their literary representation of old age. The conflictual relationships with new generations, the deep reflections on individual identity and the ambivalent depiction of memory constitute relevant themes. Trifonov’s works taken into consideration are the novellas The Exchange (Obmen, 1969), The Long Goodbye (Dolgoe proshchanie, 1971) and Another Life (Drugaja zhizn’, 1975), as well as the novels The House on the Embankment (Dom na naberezhnoĭ, 1976) and The Old Man (Starik, 1978). As far as Rasputin is concerned, our attention will be focused on the short novels The Last Term (Poslednyĭ srok, 1970) and Farewell to Matyora (Proshchanie s Matëroĭ, 1976), as well as on the tales Vasili and Vasilissa (Vasiliĭ i Vasilisa, 1966) and Women’s Conversation (Zhenskij razgovor, 1995).

The paper is devoted to an analysis of the psychological and anthropological characterization of aged characters in Russian Twentieth-century literature, namely in Juriĭ Trifonov’s (1925-1981) and Valentin Rasputin’s (1937-2015) works.
