In this paper, we describe our approaches and results for modeling the ranking of reviews based on their usefulness score, this being the first of the three subtasks under this shared task. Instead of posing this as a regression problem, we modeled this as a classification task where we want to identify whether a review is useful or not. We employed a bi-directional LSTM to represent each review and is used with a softmax layer to predict the usefulness score. We chose the review with highest usefulness score, then find its cosine similarity score with rest of the reviews. This is done in order to ensure diversity in the selection of top-k reviews. On the top-5 list prediction, we finished 3rd while in top-10 list one, we are placed 2nd in the shared task. We have discussed the model and the results in detail in...

However, a potential barrier to this growth can be students' own perceptions of themselves and their capabilities to deal with change and achieve results-known as 'self-efficacy'. While universities can be good at educating students about the theoretical foundations for their future careers, it is questionable to what extent universities help students to systematically develop their sense of self and their ability to cope with change. Work integrated learning (WIL) in higher education is one way to develop, amongst other things, students' self-efficacy. WIL is particularly useful to develop self-efficacy through mastery experiences, modelling, social persuasion and physiological states (

This pathway is encoded by a cluster of six genes, the first three of which are orthologs of Escherichia coli genes involved in N-acetylmuramic acid dissimilation and encode a MurNAc-6-phosphate etherase (MurQ), a MurNAc-6-phosphate-specific transcriptional regulator (MurR), and a MurNAc-specific phosphotransferase system (MurP). Here we characterized two other genes of this cluster. The first gene was shown to encode a cell wall-associated fl-N-acetylglucosaminidase (NagZ, formerly YbbD) that cleaves the terminal nonreducing N-acetylglucosamine of muropeptides and also accepts chromogenic or fluorogenic fl-N-acetylglucosaminides. The second gene was shown to encode an amidase (AmiE, formerly YbbE) that hydrolyzes the N-acetyl-muramyl-L-Ala bond of MurNAc peptides but not this bon...

His field of research was in organic lightemitting device, including development of a new thermal deposition boat and coater. iv ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I would like to thank my thesis advisor, Professor Ching W. Tang, for inspiring me to challenge boldly an unprecedented research topic and for encouraging me to experience the meaning of harvest out of laborious process and of thinking outside the box. I would also like to thank my committee advisors, Professor Lewis J. Rothberg and Professor Todd D. Krauss, for their continuing guidance and unwavering support at every step for me to reach the completion of this valuable study. I am also deeply thankful to Professor Shaw H. Chen of the Department of Chemical Engineering for serving on my thesis committee and for helping me to conduct part of my experiments in his LLE lab. I also readily acknowledge significant help and assistance from; Mr. Ken R. Madison and Mr. John F. Miller who are instrument model makers in the University Machine Shop; Mr. Larry Kuntz in the Chemical Engineering Department; Mr. Myron W. Culver in Physics Department. I also thank Mrs. Robin Cooley who is the Graduate Studies Coordinator of Department of Chemistry; Mrs. Sandra Willison, Ms. Tiffany Markham and Mrs. Gina Eagan, who are staff in the Chemical Engineering Department, for their kind and helpful assistance all the time. My gratitude is, also, due to my group members and fellow graduate students over the years for their helpful collaboration, Joseph K. This paper develops a model that captures this fact. Speci cally, we show that the ratio of a bidders Q to that of a potential target has a non-monotone, inverted U-shaped e¤ect on the probability of the two rms merging. Further, we nd that the likelihood of a merger is positively and linearly related to the ratio of the growth potentials of an acquirer and its prospective target. Thus, in terms of potential growth, the typical merger pattern is high buys low. A series of probit regressions for US Compustat rms bear out these implications. JEL classi cation: G34, O33

The objective of this article is to describe the most relevant tegumentary findings in a cohort of 41 patients with Noonan or Noonan-related syndromes and to detail certain aspects of the molecular mechanisms underlying ectodermal involvement. A standard questionnaire was administered. A focused physical examination and a systematic review of clinical records was performed on all patients to verify the presence of tegumentary alterations. The molecular analysis of this cohort included sequencing of the following genes in all patients: PTPN1, SOS1, RAF1, KRAS, SHOC2 and BRAF. The most frequent tegumentary alterations were xeroderma (46%), photosensitivity (29%), excessive hair loss (24%), recurrent oral ulcers (22%), curly hair (20%), nevi (17%), markedly increased palmar and plantar creases (12%), follicular hyperkeratosis (12%), palmoplantar ...

At the same time, practically all of the popular Web sites are still served from single locations. This combination of circumstances necessitates frequent long distance network data transfers (potentially repeatedly), which in turn result in a high response time for users, and are wasteful of the available network bandwidth. In addition, the frequent use of single locations to serve from creates a single point of failure between the Web site and its Internet provider. This paper presents a new approach to Web replication, the Walrus system, which is intended to remedy these problems. Under Walrus, each of the Web server replicas may reside in a different part of the network, and the client's browser is automatically and transparently directed to the best server for this client. "Best" is a relative term, dependent on where the client is located on the...

Since the 1990s, the promise of market-led development and the growth of a middle class, especially in India, have reshaped expectations in a way not seen since the immediate post-colonial period, and provided the prospect of a region that combines its particular approach to governance with common aspirations and achievement of economic well-being – what might be a new “idea of South Asia. ” This paper examines some aspects of the development of the South Asian middle class, their role in economic development, and the potential of the idea that shared middle class aspirations of material consumption can be a regional driving force. The paper argues that, for this potential to be realized, the middle class in South Asia may need to aspire to something more than private affluence in the m...

The assets are Lucas trees; a collection of Lucas trees is a Lucas orchard. The dividend growth of each asset is i.i.d. over time. This framework allows for dividend growth correlations between assets and for jumps in dividends. The model replicates various features of the data. Assets with independent dividends ex-hibit comovement in returns. Jumps spread across assets. Assets with high price-dividend ratios have low risk premia. Small assets exhibit momentum. High yield spreads forecast high excess returns on long term bonds and on the market. Special attention is paid to the behavior of very small assets, which may comove endogenously and hence earn positive risk premia even if their fundamentals are independent of the rest of the economy.
