There was a great boom of research on information behaviors, especially Web search behaviors, in ... more There was a great boom of research on information behaviors, especially Web search behaviors, in the past five years in Mainland China. The research in this area covers a variety of topics, including task, user characteristics, information need, mental model, search strategy, queries and clicks, system related research, etc. This chapter is a review of research on Web search and user search behaviors in Mainland China. The review demonstrates that there are several well-organized teams of researchers in this field, each focusing on different aspects of users’ behaviors, and there is much collaboration between researchers in China and abroad. The review of current research also has suggestions for future research in this filed in Mainland China. More research should be conducted on important issues during the complete search process, like information need, search task, and interactions. Background of the study: As a unit in a University, library has a role to help users by providing... more Background of the study: As a unit in a University, library has a role to help users by providing library services, especially for the first-year students who are accepted in large numbers each year. The large number of admitted first-year students need attention from university, especially library, by conducting socialization activity to reduce library anxiety. There are still many first-year students feel anxiety in themselves. Purpose: This study aims to measure the first-year student’s anxiety level in and to compare anxiety level of students who participate and do not participate in library services socialization, between levels, factors, and between groups of external and internal factors that affect the anxiety level of first-year students. Method: This study used a quantitative approach by using survey research method. A library is always an interesting place to visit. Many things can be done in the library. With t... more A library is always an interesting place to visit. Many things can be done in the library. With the rapid development of information technology, the roles of a librarian have now expanded-from library education to IT instruction, from browsing along the shelves to digital access tutorial. The roles will continue expanding along with the development of IT. Along with the development of science and technology, libraries need to ensure that people-especially children and youthare aware of the development. Therefore, libraries should have programs in making children and youth get knowledge. The programs may vary from inviting experts in science and technology; exhibiting new invention and technological products; science and technology contests in the library, etc. it should be noted as well that librarians need to show or remind people of the inventions in science and technology in the past.

Gunung Kidul is one of the four regencies in the State of Yogyakarta. The area is mostly hilly an... more Gunung Kidul is one of the four regencies in the State of Yogyakarta. The area is mostly hilly and people live there as peasants, fishermen, batik makers, etc. its libraries have emerged as they help the community to develop their economy, preserve their culture, and provide training. The term “ library social inclusion” is meant as an effort to invite the community to come to the library and help the
community to learn and practice at the same time. Some of their programs include batik painting, traditional dances, and music playing. The librarians help the community not only to practice traditional batik painting but also to learn digital marketing all at once. The community has practiced batik painting and promoted their batik online. They were surprised when foreign tourists visited their village and bought their products. This led their enthusiasm to produce more batik paintings and promote them online. The library also invites children to learn traditional dances in order to preserve their culture. The children who have already been influenced by western dances and music finally can practice traditional dances. In addition, the influence of alcohol among young people in rural area has attracted the librarians to persuade them to go back to a normal and healthy life. So, the librarians invited them to learn information technology and the librarians help them to do graphic design. It was surprising that that young person are so enthusiastic to learn and once they won an award in the graphic design competition. During the pandemic, due to physical distancing, the “library social inclusion” activities are held in several rural public libraries, while the regency public library organizes all the activities that are in the rural public libraries. The rural public libraries react positively to the idea. During 2021 alone, the activities for the community include screen printing, traditional music practice, viticulture, and online marketing.In short, a library can play a role in the rural areas to preserve their culture, develop their economy, and grow the skills for the community’s future
