One of the reasons why this strategy has not been successful is that resources are directed to too many young people that have no interest in agriculture and are not suited to living in the rural areas where agriculture is practiced. The objectives of this paper include to investigate if socio-demographic characteristics influence young people choice of locality; develop measurement scale for measuring the interest dimension of young people’s involvement with agriculture; and to determine if correlation exists between locality and interest in agriculture. This study was conducted in Edo State, Nigeria using young student respondents. The result indicates there is a relationship between social demographics and the locality of young people. The study also indicates a correlation exist between locality of young people and their interest in agriculture. Young people from rural background are more inclined to consider agriculture as an employment and are more interested in its development. Therefore the agricultural policy of the government must be redefined with the intent of applying the rule of comparative advantage in engaging the young people in agriculture. The generalisation of the study should be made with caution as the sample size was small and most of the references used are from countries that are different socio-culturally.

The reasons behind the increase in the consumption and the associated market are not known or at best sketchy. To explore the rationale behind the growth in the market, this study investigated the factors that influence the consumer behaviours relevant to wine use from an enduring involvement perspective. A multisampling procedure was adopted to select 487 respondents from three geo-political zones. Factor analysis, reliability test and multiple regression were conducted using the Stata 12 software. Findings show that the amount of money spent on wine was dependent on the enduring involvement variables of the consumer. Wine related lifestyles, pleasure/interest, age and educational qualification of the consumer influenced the amount of Naira spent on wine consumption. Wine related lifestyles and self-image/sign value, knowledge availability and disposable household income influenced the number of bottles of wine purchased. The wine market will consistently and sustainably expand as per capita income increases and well distributed. A study to segment the market is recommended.

One of the ways to improve the efficiency in the agriculture supply chain is the adoption and use of mobile phone. Mobile phone ownership and usage for social and agricultural purposes have received attention with an indication that it is growing in Sub-Sahara Africa. It provides different avenues for the transfer of knowledge and information among stakeholders of Agribusiness. This study investigates how much farmers have applied this technology and the benefits derived from it. Considering these objectives, a quantitative data derived through multi-stage sampling procedure was collected through a process of questionnaire administration that yielded 328 smallholder farmer respondents. The data was analysed using Stata 12 software. The results indicate that more young farmers use mobile phones and more than 82% of the farmers possess at least secondary school certificate. The farmers spend more (mobile phone bill) seeking market information than any other agricultural activities and obtaining weather information was one area in which they have not received reasonable benefits. One country information limits generalisation of the study and caution should be taken when using the data.
