(Asparagaceae), are important species for search of new pesticide agents. The dipteran Culex quinquefasciatus is common in aquatic environments of Lima and causes painful stings in people. The gastropod Heleobia cumingii D'Orbigny, 1835 is a native snail found in lotic and lentic aquatic environments of Peru. Thus, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the insecticide and molluscicide of dry leaves powder and juice in aqueous of A. americana and F. andina on C. quinquefasciatus and H. cumingii. The end point was the mortality of the larvae of C. quinquefasciatus and of the snail H. cumingii. Bark of F. andina showed higher insecticidal effect in relation to other aqueous extracts in toto and periderm evaluated in both plant species. The extract in toto of A. americana showed a greater effect molluscicide in relation to the rest of aqueous aqueous extracts of bark and periderm evaluated in both plant species. Aqueous extr...

The ability to deal with imprecise knowledge provides a flexible framework for temporal planning, in contrast with the rigidity of classical temporal planners, and it concerns all of the stages of the planning process, that is, from domain and plan representation to plan generation and execution monitoring.

Direct estimation of ovarian reserve involves the identification of NGFs in prepared ovarian tissue. Previous studies involving human tissue have used hematoxylin and eosin (HE) stain, with NGF populations estimated by human examination either of tissue under a microscope, or of images taken of this tissue. Methods: In this study we replaced HE with proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), and automated the identification and enumeration of NGFs that appear in the resulting microscopic images. We compared the automated estimates to those obtained by human experts, with the "gold standard" taken to be the average of the conservative and liberal estimates by three human experts. Results: The automated estimates were within 10% of the "gold standard", for images at both 100× and 200× magnifications. Automated analysis took longer than human analysis for several hundred images, not allowing for breaks from analysis needed by humans. Conclusion: Our results both replicate and improve on those of previous studies involving rodent ovaries, and demonstrate the viability of large-scale studies of human ovarian reserve using a combination of immunohistochemistry and computational image analysis techniques.

The two DNA sequences are alleles of the same gene (CaPIR1) but IPF 19968 has a deletion of 117 bases. IPF 19968 encodes a putative polypeptide of 364 aa, which is highly O-glycosylated and has an N-mannosylated chain, four cysteine residues and seven repeats. Both alleles are expressed under different growth conditions and during wall construction by regenerating protoplasts. The heterozygous mutant cells are elongated, form clumps of several cells and are hypersensitive to drugs that affect cell wall assembly. CaPir1 was labelled with the V5 epitope and found linked to the 1,3-b-glucan of the C. albicans wall and also by disulphide bridges when expressed in S. cerevisiae.

This tool integrates modules that dynamically capture user models, determine lists of activities that can provide more utility to a user given the past experience of the system with similar users, and generates plans that can be executed by the user. This system is intended to work in portable devices (mobile phones, PDAs, etc,) with internet connection. In this paper, we describe the architecture, the knowledge model that is shared among components using an ontology, and the three components of the tool: user module, case-based module and planning module.

Complex radiating structures are analyzed with FEM (which easily handles complex geometries, permeable materials, anisotropy, and so on) while small and medium size perfect electric conductor (PEC) objects are rigorously analyzed using MoM; large PEC objects can be efficiently analyzed with PO. Furthermore, different regions of the same object can be modeled with MoM and PO. That provides the possibility, for instance, of taking into account the edge effects of PEC objects without the need of introducing artificial line currents at the edges, as the Physical Theory of Diffraction (PTD) does. Several numerical results are presented showing the validity of the method.

Usually, this requires that the people that have developed the planning system carry out the modeling phase, since the representation depends very much on a deep knowledge of the internal working of the planning tools. Since, in Business Process Reengineering (BPR), there has already been some work on the definition of languages that allow non-experts to enter knowledge on processes into the tools, we propose here the use of one of such languages to enter knowledge on the organisation processes. As instances of this domain, we will use the workflow modeling tool SHAMASH, where we have exploited its object oriented structure and rule-base approach to introduce the knowledge through its user-friendly interface. Then, we have used a translator to transform it into predicate logic terms. After this conversion, real models can be automatically generated using a planner that integrates Planning and Scheduling, IPSS. We present results in a simplified real workflow domain, the TELEPHONE INSTALLATION (TI) domain.

These new features include a sound partial order metric structure, deadlines, temporal landmarking or synchronization capabilities built on top of a Simple Temporal Network and an efficient constraint propagation engine boosted by exploiting the causal structure of plans.
