The results of a word-monitoring task with resynthesized stimuli show that pitch accents modulated speech segmentation for both groups, but unlike native listeners, the English listeners, who were at mid and high proficiencies in French, were not able to use F0 rise as a cue to word-final boundaries in French. These findings are attributed to their native language, in which F0 rise is a cue to word-initial boundaries, and to the co-occurrence of F0 and duration cues in word-final syllables in French, thus preventing them from attending to F0 rise as a cue to word-final boundaries. Keywords: speech segmentation, prosodic cues, French, second/foreign language, lexical access F0 rise as a cue to word boundaries. It should be 1. They also registered diagnoses and certain other medical measures. Around 85% were judged to be ill to some degree, but few were seriously ill. There were small differences in functional capacity between men and women of different ages: both benign, self-limiting complaints and severe illnesses could be associated with considerable problems, while many patients with severe diseases had little discomfort. There was also a considerable discrepancy between functional impairment and work capacity. Using a combination of functional assessment with routine registration of diagnoses seems to be a useful method of obtaining a modulated, distinct picture of the types of patient encountering the general practitioner. However, further development work within the field is needed.

Purpose. To investigate the use of the weight-loss drugs rimonabant, sibutramine, and orlistat in primary care and to characterize the patients receiving the drugs. Methods. In this retrospective, descriptive study, 300 randomly selected patients having started weight-loss drug treatment at 15 primary care centres were investigated using the patient’s medical records and their complete drug purchase data. Results. Even though 48 % of the patients specifically demanded drug treatment, 77 % continued treatment less than one year. 28 % of rimonabant patients and 32 % of sibutramine patients had a history of depression or antidepressant treatment. 41 % of sibutramine patients had a history of hypertension and/or cardiovascular disease. 3...
