This paper investigated the relationship between management of school security equipment and sust... more This paper investigated the relationship between management of school security equipment and sustainable development of tertiary educational institutions in Kebbi State. Focus was on assessing the adequacy of protective and communication equipment as well as access control and safety equipment in the schools and the extent to which adequacy and management of security equipment affect the maintenance of a secured environment for sustainable development. In this study, 150 participants were purposefully selected from Management Staff and Security Staff of the selected institutions. Descriptive survey design was adopted and validated instruments with reliability index of .82 were used to collect data. It was found that the level of adequacy of school security equipment was rated low but has a significant relationship with sustainable development of tertiary educational institutions in Kebbi State. It was recommended among others that School Managers to develop a check list of necessary security equipment and ensure that they are adequately provided and managed to maintain a conducive, secured and peaceful school environment for sustainable development of tertiary educational institutions in Kebbi State. They should pay attention to internally generated revenue so as to reduce over dependence on government to supply their schools with all security equipment.

This study investigated the management of operations of Security Guards as a correlate of school ... more This study investigated the management of operations of Security Guards as a correlate of school effectiveness in tertiary educational institutions in Kebbi State. The study assessed the awareness of basic security operations and the quality of planning of security operations. The extent which these variables of awareness and planning of security are related to school effectiveness was determined. In conducting the study, 150 participants were deliberately selected to comprise 39 school managers and 111 security guards from three selected educational institutions. A descriptive survey design of the correlation type was adopted for the study. Self-designed and validated instrument with reliability index of .87 was used to collect data. Standard deviation, z-scores and Pearson correlation coefficient at 0.05 alpha kevel were used in analyzing the data. It was found that the level of awareness of roles by security guards and the quality of planning of security operations were rated low even though the two variables were significantly correlated to school effectiveness. It was therefore recommended that school managers should device enlightenments strategies such as regular training workshops as well as scientific planning of security operations to provide a more secured school environment to enhance school effectiveness in tertiary educational institutions in Kebbi State.

Large-scale efforts are needed for conservation of natural sand whose resources are reducing day ... more Large-scale efforts are needed for conservation of natural sand whose resources are reducing day by day and legal complications are making it difficult to meet the demand. So, self-compacting concrete (SCC) is an innovative concrete that does not require vibration for placing and compaction. It is able to flow under its own weight, completely filling formwork and achieving full compaction, even in the presence of congested reinforcement. The hardened concrete is dense, homogeneous and has the same engineering properties and durability as traditional vibrated concrete. Complex shape of concrete structures and densely arranged bars make it more difficult to use a vibrator. Vibratory compaction is noisy and deleterious to the health of construction workers, as well as an annoyance to people in the neighborhood. In remote areas it is difficult to find skilled workers to carry out the compacting work at construction sites. This paper presents the progress of the research on different harden properties of Self Compacting Concrete using the Ordinary Portland Cement "Ultratek" made and low-calcium fly ash from Birla Glass, Kosamba, Gujarat, as binder materials in making the concrete mixes along with other ingredients locally available. Results indicated increase in workability for all the cases over control concrete. Concrete with fly ash was also found to be about 25% economical when cost per N/mm2 was compared. Based on experimental results correlations are developed to predict Compressive Strength, Flexural strength, cost, Slump and Dry Density for percentage sand replacement with fly ash. https://int-scientific-journals.com

The attitudes and epilepsy-related knowledge of teachers are an important component of the educat... more The attitudes and epilepsy-related knowledge of teachers are an important component of the educational experiences of children with epilepsy. Unfortunately, however, the exploration of teacher attitudes and knowledge has been extremely limited. The knowledge and attitude of school teachers can affect significantly the academic achievement, social development and the quality of life of epileptic students. However, this study is aimed to assess the knowledge and attitude of school teachers towards students with epilepsy. Therefore, this cross-sectional study used a pretested, self-administered, 5-item questionnaire to evaluate the basic knowledge and attitude of Elementary, intermediate, and secondary schools" teachers as regards epilepsy. Schools were chosen at random and included private and public schools for male and female students. Meanwhile, the study included 342 teachers. 98.8% of the respondents heard about the disease, with no significant association with age (p = 0.205) or gender (p = 0.593). The common reported causes for epilepsy included mental disease (62.6%), spiritual possession (11.1%), electric charges in the brain (9.9%) and disturbed nerves (5.3%). 71.3% of respondents were willing to provide first aid during fits and objected to prevent epileptic students from studying (97.7%). Age was significantly associated with knowledge about causes of epilepsy (p = 0.008) and readiness to provide first aid (p = 0.012). Gender was not significantly associated with neither knowledge nor attitude of the respondents. In conclusion, it was found that knowledge of teachers about causes of epilepsy was not adequate. Also, most of them would treat epileptic students differently from their peers. Educational programs should be provided to school teachers to correct wrong beliefs about epilepsy and to train them on first aid measures during epileptic fits, which to focus remedial education and outreach efforts are identified. The specimens were stored for an additional 7 days before being subjected to shear force in a universal testing machine with a 10KN load cell at a crosshead speed of 0.5 mm/min. The bond strength values obtained were recorded in MPa and analyzed using independent t test. The outcomes indicate that the shear bond strength values obtained were highly significant for Bisco when compared to Angelus for both the metal and ceramic substrates. Similarly, after acid etching and laser surface treatment, Bisco proved to be better. At the end, Bisco repair system had significantly higher shear bond strength values when compared to Angelus. Hence it is the preferred choice for intraoral repair of fractured metal ceramic restorations. Er: YAG laser surface treatment is the recommended surface treatment for intraoral repair.
