Kelenteng" is an Indonesian name for place of worship used by Chinese descendants in Indonesia. I... more Kelenteng" is an Indonesian name for place of worship used by Chinese descendants in Indonesia. In the 70's, most Kelentengs in West Java transformed and identified themselves as Viharas, this transformation due to Indonesia policy at that time related to socio-political situation in the country. Vihara Buddhi, formerly known as "Kelenteng Perempuan" (Female Temple), is a sacred place where Chinese people in Indonesia worship their Gods and do their rituals. Chinese Indonesians adhere to Sanjiao teaching. Sanjiao means Three Teachings; a syncretic form of three main religions or teachings: Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism. This form is strictly adhered by mostly Chinese Indonesians. Vihara Buddhi is located in Bandung, and operated by a group of priestesses called Zhai Ji齋姐, came from marginalized women of Hakka 客家 Tribe. Research questions: 1. What are the important cultural values of the differences between the Vihara as a worship place for Buddhist people and the Vihara as a transformed version of Kelenteng? 2. What is the importance of historical and cultural values of Vihara Buddhi Bandung? This research uses qualitative methods: Direct observation, data collecting and interview. The theory of Cultural Unconscious from Hall is used to reveal the most important historical and cultural values of Vihara Buddhi Bandung. The results confirm the important differences are lie on the composition of the altars and the people who manage and organize those Viharas. The most important historical and cultural values of Vihara Buddhi Bandung are related to the history of anti-China regulation regulated by new order regime in Indonesia and the existence of Zhai Ji.

The name Hokokai is taken from the name of the organization that helped the Japanese army in creating prosperity in Asia. One of the activities of this organization is ordering batik to be distributed to Indonesians who have contributed to Japan. Through this paper, it will be analyzed the influence of Japanese culture to the visual of Djawa Hokokai batik. Japanese culture in this case is focused on Japanese kimono motifs. This is a qualitative research using historical approach and aesthetic theory. Djawa Hokokai Batik has its own uniqueness that is made in the form of “morning-evening”, namely batik cloth with two different patterns of arrangement on a piece of cloth. The batik cloth motif shows a combination of classic batik motifs such as parang, kawung, ceplokan, lereng, and batik motifs that have been influenced by European culture and Chinese culture. Djawa Hokokai Batik shows its uniqueness by combining motifs from the three cultures above with Japanese culture, so that it shows dense composition and more detailed motifs. Based on the results of the analysis it can be concluded that the Djawa Hokokai batik was influenced by Japanese kimono motifs. The influence can be seen from the composition of objects that look solid, visualization of objects that look detailed, and the tendency to combine contrasting motifs such as floral motifs with geometric motifs.

In the past, when cotton had not been planted in Rote, at the behest of the Dutch through the cultur stelsel, the people of Rote made clothing from the fibers of young gewang leaves.
