The thesis deals with the issue of stylistic repetitions in the novel “The Old Man and The Sea” b... more The thesis deals with the issue of stylistic repetitions in the novel “The Old Man and The Sea” by Ernest Hemingway. The stylistic potential of the idiolect of Ernest Hemingway in the novel “The Old Man and The Sea” is remarkably noticed in the use of repetitions in various functions. Repetitions are directly related to the "style-forming core" of Ernest Hemingway's individual handwriting. They stem from the nature of the creative individuality of the writer. In the nature of repetitions, in their quantitative use, in the nature and stylistic originality, the emotion, tension of the narration are manifested with particular brightness. The origins of the repetition in the excitement accompanying the expression of a feeling brought to the highest tension. The current article involves the issues of losses, gains, or survivals contributing to literature... more The current article involves the issues of losses, gains, or survivals contributing to literature in the process of translation. It represents a thorough study based on the novel “The Grapes of Wrath” by John Steinbeck from English and, respectively, its translation into Azerbaijani by Ulfet Kurchayli. It investigates the problematic areas or challenges emerging from the source-text discrepancies. Furthermore, this article also concentrates on the issue of cultural non-equivalence or the losses occurring in translating English literary texts into Azerbaijani. The paper identifies the translation techniques adopted by the translator of John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath. Adopting certain techniques rather than others has led to many losses on different levels. The translator’s important role as a cultural insider is also emphasized. The thesis deals with the issue of the linguistic peculiarities of similes in the novel “Dombey a... more The thesis deals with the issue of the linguistic peculiarities of similes in the novel “Dombey and Son” by Charles Dickens. The linguistic implication of the figurativeness of Charles Dickens in the novel “Dombey and Son” is remarkably noticed in the use of similes in different functions. Charles Dickens uses the similes with different simile markers such as pragmatically influence his readers and live in the reader’s imagination. They appear from the nature of the distinctive creative individuality of the writer. The similes in the novel highlight the power of linguistic change and it draws attention to either of the concepts evoked, tenor or vehicle. The imaginative similes of the novel involve inviting thoughts about one thing to another and drawing attention to the gap between what is said and what is. The peculiar use of language means causes many difficulties for translators. The book focuses on the peculiarities of E. Hemingway's style of writing and the adequacy of translation of his novels and short stories into Russian.

His books have been translated into a great majority of languages, his creative activity and personal style of writing has been investigated by literary critics and linguists at different times, his life and personality has been described extensively by his biographers, researchers and people who knew him personally. Nevertheless, both his biography and the value of his literary works have always been the object of debates. Scholars have always argued about the linguistic value of his style of writing; for some linguists Hemingway’s style seemed too simple to be analysed.
