A processing advantage for emotional words relative to neutral words has been widely demonstrated... more A processing advantage for emotional words relative to neutral words has been widely demonstrated in the monolingual domain (e.g., Kuperman et al., 2014). It is also well-known that, in bilingual speakers who have a certain degree of proficiency in their second language, the effects of the affective content of words on cognition are not restricted to the native language (e.g., Ferré et al., 2010). The aim of the present study was to test whether this facilitatory effect can also be obtained during the very early stages of word acquisition. In the context of a novel word learning paradigm, participants were trained on a set of Basque words by associating them to their Spanish translations. Words' concreteness and affective valence were orthogonally manipulated. Immediately after the learning phase and 1 week later, participants were tested in a Basque go-no go lexical decision task as well as in a translation task in which they had to provide the Spanish translation of the Basque...

In 1995, the CCQM (Comité Consultatif pour la Quantité de Matière) identified titrimetry as a primary method of measurement. Titrimetry is a method that has wide range of applications for amount of substance measurements and can be applied at primary level and at working level depending on the uncertainty values. The aim of this work is to present the results of potentiometric titration of a dilute solution of hydrochloric acid (HCl). The potentiometric titration method was carried out with the solution addition controlled gravimetrically. The results were accurate and HCl concentration of (0.010042 0.000112) mol kg 1, k = 2 for approximately 95% confidence level was obtained. The molality determination of HCl solution is a prerequisite for the use of a Harned cell, the primary method for the realization of pH measurement. The HCl solution is used in the pH primary system at Inmetro to obtain accurat...

The study of how the human parser solves this kind of syntactic ambiguities has been focus of extensive research. However, what is known about EP is both limited and puzzling. Additionally, as recent studies have stressed the importance of extra-syntactic variables in this process, two experiments were carried out to assess EP attachment preferences considering four animacy conditions: Study 1 used a sentence-completion-task, and Study 2 a self-paced reading task. Both studies indicate a significant preference for high attachment in EP. Furthermore, they showed that this preference was modulated by the animacy of the host NP: if the first host was inanimate and the second one was animate, the parser's preference changed to low attachment preference. These findings shed light on previous results regarding EP and strengthen the id...

A similar pattern of results was found across tasks and sessions, revealing main effects of concreteness and emotional content as well as an interaction between both factors. Thus, the emotional content facilitated the acquisition of abstract, but not concrete words, in the new language, with a more reliable effect for negative words than for positive ones. The results are discussed in light of the embodied theoretical view of semantic representation proposed by Kousta et al. (2011).

The main use of this system is to provide reliability and traceability to the EC measurements in Brazil since its measurement is very important, mainly for determining the purity of water. In order

The performance of 49 Brazilian laboratories (using the z-score statistical test) in determining 10 quality parameters of ethanol fuel and biodiesel was evaluated. The certified reference values were provided by INMETRO, allowing a more rigorous assessment of the laboratories. For hydrous ethanol, the acidity parameter showed the lowest number of laboratories with satisfactory results (48%), while 85% of the laboratories presented satisfactory results for ethanol content. For biodiesel, the percentage of laboratories with satisfactory results ranged from 46% (kinematic viscosity) to 92% (acid number).
