As many authors (Evers et al. 2009; Böhme and Gloersen 2011 and Nosek 2017) point out, territorial cohesion is not easily definable, and its meanings and conceptions remain somewhat ambiguous. While some researchers perceive this ambiguity as a disadvantage, others have found it to be an advantage resulting in an opportunity (Colomb and Santinha 2014; Davoudi 2005). Among the different conceptualizations provided in the literature around the topic, territorial cohesion ought to be unequivocally considered both a political concept (confirmed by the its increasing relevance at the centre of the cohesion policy of the European Union), and a question of policy planning, so that policies are increasingly cut off from the different territorial levels. From an operational standpoint, territorial cohesion is commonly conceived as a multidimensional concept, complex and sometimes contested (...

The analysis is based on a comprehensive weekly scanner dataset from large grocery-retailers for three product groups: dried semola pasta, extra virgin oil olive and tomato pulp. These products represent an important share of italian households food consumptions and they are sold by large and small-medium size manufacturers. We observe a large price heterogeneity at regional level that depends, not only on market structure, but also on consumers preferences: local brands play a major role in the South of Italy respect to the North, where indeed national brands and also private label are more developed. The concentration of Grocery Retailing Sector in italian regions influence many aspects of the supply structure: it appears negative correlate with the number of products available to consumers and positive corr...

From an operational perspective, however, is common to treat well-being as a multidimensional concept: each dimension represents an aspect to be described by means of different indicators able to characterize it. For each dimension composite indexes are then obtained by aggregating and weighting the relevant indicators. This paper attempts to measure the well-being of Italian Regions using composite indexes of eleven dimensions. Zeleny's compromise solution concept and a modified TOPSIS (Tecnique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) method of compromise ranking (Zeleny, 1982; Hwang e Yoon, 1981) are used. TOPSIS is a methodological tool capable of handling conflicting situations between dimensions, relations between indicators and incomparable units (Antucheviciene et al,2010). The fundamental of TOPSIS is that doesn't exist in real life a “Pareto solution”; in the context of regional well-being ...

Objectives Comparing composite indices for four big dimensions of quality of transportation services. Methods and Results Composite indices are built from the results of a research of the Agency for the control and public services’quality of RomeT. wo methods, developed along the lines of MCDM (Multiple Criteria Decision Making), are applied: SAW (Simple Additive Weighting Method) and TOPSIS (Tecnique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution). The results are compared with the simple arithmetic mean composite indice calculated by the Agency. Different weights are linked to SAW and TOPSIS (derived from standard deviation measures for the former and entropy approach for the latter). The results can be used as a signal for different cluster of indicators and zones. Conclusions It is useful to have a set of a...
