Determination of land use changing is an important component of regional planning for application... more Determination of land use changing is an important component of regional planning for applications ranging from urban fringe change detection to monitoring change detection of land use. These data are very useful for natural resources management. On the other hand, the technologies and methods of change detection also have evolved dramatically during the past 20 years. So it has been well recognized that the change detection had become the best method for researching dynamic change of land use by multi-temporal remotely-sensed data. The objective of this paper is to assess, evaluate and monitor land use change surrounding the area of Najran city, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) using Landsat images (June 23, 2009) and ETM+ image (June. 21, 2014). The post classification change detection technique was applied. At last, two-time subset images of Najran city are compared on a pixel-by-pixel basis using the post classification comparison method and the from-to change matrix is produced, t...

Research paper thumbnail of Recognition of district-wise groundwater stress zones using the GLDAS-2 catchment land surface model during lean season in the Indian state of West Bengal

Acta Geophysica, 2021

Water is essential for irrigation, drinking and industrial purposes from global to the regional s... more Water is essential for irrigation, drinking and industrial purposes from global to the regional scale. The groundwater considered a significant water resource specifically in regions where the surface water is not sufficient. Therefore, the research problem is focused on district-wise sustainable groundwater management due to urbanization. The number of impervious surface areas like roofing on built-up areas, concrete and asphalt road surface were increased due to the level of urban development. Thus, these surface areas can inhibit infiltration and surface retention by the impact of urbanization because vegetation/forest areas are decreased. The present research examines the district-wise spatiotemporal groundwater storage (GWS) changes under terrestrial water storage using the global land data assimilation system-2 (GLDAS-2) catchment land surface model (CLSM) from 2000 to 2014 in West Bengal, India. The objective of the research is mainly focused on the delineation of groundwater...

The registration of point clouds that are acquired from multiple viewpoints is a fundamental task... more The registration of point clouds that are acquired from multiple viewpoints is a fundamental task for laser scanner data processing. To register the simultaneous adjacent scans, every scan has special targets attached onto the object(s) like plain retro-reflective, black-white targets as well as such targets, which have well-known geometrical 3D shapes (e.g. spheres, planes, cylinders, etc.). These targets or shapes are used as landmarks and their 3D centre coordinates are modelled from the laser scanner point clouds in a local coordinate system. To transform all the adjacent scans to a reference scan, the least squares solution was used as a fitting algorithm to find the parameters of the model transformation. Although, realistic stochastic modelling for data registration is still a difficult task to accomplish in practice, both functional and stochastic models need to be carefully defined. In this paper the mixed least square solution was used to calculate the transformation param...

Geo-referencing data is one of the most important terrestrial laser scanner data processing steps... more Geo-referencing data is one of the most important terrestrial laser scanner data processing steps. It means to collect the separated scans of the object in one scan world coordinate. Geo-referencing, some times called data registration, is important when the scan object, regardless its size, has a significant variation in depth and one scan is not sufficient to describe it geometrically. Methods for data registration have been widely investigated, but practical rules for capturing the data haven't been examined yet. An example, is the distribution of the tie-points which are used in the registration and their position according to the laser scanner position in every two adjacent scans. In order to evaluate the accuracy of the complete model obtained by the scanning process, a lot of measurements in different positions for distance and orientation of the laser scanner have been performed. In this paper the results of the precision achieved using the registration of two adjacent s...

This study assesses the potential application of three new ensemble models, which are integrations of the adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS), analytic hierarchy process (AHP), certainty factor (CF) and weight of evidence (WoE). The experimental area is the Trotuș River basin in Romania. The database for the present research consisted of 12 flood-related factors and 172 flood locations. The quality of the models was evaluated using root mean square error (RMSE) values and the ROC curve (AUC). The results showed that the ANFIS-CF model and the ANFIS-WOE model have a high prediction capacity (accuracy > 91.6%). Therefore, we concluded that ANFIS-CF and ANFIS-WoE are two new tools that should be considered for future studies related to flood susceptibility modelling.

By using the Hydrologic Engineering Centers River Analysis System software, we can model flash flood events and calculate water surface profiles over the length of the modeled stream. After collecting elevation points by using GPS method, the digital elevation model can be calculated for the study area. Najran city has main flood stream passes beside King Abdullah Road based on facts and previous works. A small study area including the mainstream of Wady Najran and King Abdullah Road has chosen as test site. The used methodology has also been proved efficiently for identifying flood inundation maps. Water extent area overlapped by 52–86% for both used methods. At discharge Q = 15 m3/s, the road needs to be protected from the flood.
