The first analysis of regional disparities in post-communist Romania has been made under the PHARE program for the period March to July 1996. It allowed the spatial localization of poverty and under-development in the country's two main areas: Northeast (which includes virtually all of the historical region of Moldova) and South (which is the largest agricultural area of the country called the Romanian Plain). The second report followed specifically to analyse trends on the evolution of sectoral imbalances in the period 1990 to 1994, in order to identify the major causes and significant changes. In this variant, 12 indicators, grouped into five categories were used. xiv The precise definitions of all indicators can be found in RELOCAL D 2.1. xv xvi O0&nuts2Code=%20&nuts3Code=®ionName=National%20Level

Using the theoretical approach of the (social/public) space as being produced and reproduced, our project is intended at revealing the dynamic of this particular place both as a physical mapping and as symbolic representation. Also, we have considered the place as a contradictory placement, putting together multiple different identities and signs, a place open and somehow closed upon itself, a special place or, following Foucault, a heterotopy. In short, this is an attempt at anthropologically “reading ” the life story of this place (after all, this is not about the place per se, but about the people who permanently construct it, in all senses).

The paper also focuses on the role played by young Moldavian people in their families of origin, which are largely developed and anchored in a traditional society, yet connected to a socialist mentality (Leccardi C, Feixa C, Introduction. Youth in transition(s). In: Leccardi C, Feixa C, Kovacheva S, Reiter H, Sekulic T (eds) 1989 – young people and social change after the fall of the Berlin Wall. Council of Europe Publishing, Strasbourg, pp 5–13, 2012), throughout the process of reorganizing the lives of Moldavian transnational families. At the same time, the study will show how these young people represent the driving force in the process of reacquiring Romanian citizenship by Moldavian citizens. Under the pressure of internal migration from villages to cities, the traditional Romanian family suffered a major structural transformation. According to the Romanian anthropologist, the diffuse family-household, as he calls it, seems to be "the grandmother" of the transnational family. The current practices of transnational families were formed based on these roots, of the "diffuse" family. Starting from the idea of Mihăilescu, the aim of this article 1 is to investigate the main (re)structures of the kinship practices in the Romanian society under the impact of external migration after 1989. One of the findings of the study shows that in the Romanian traditional society, preserving kinship cohesion meant a series of obligations and liabilities that were often transmitted from one generation to another without being questioned.
