In recent years, deliberative or discursive conceptions of democracy have been viewed by some gre... more In recent years, deliberative or discursive conceptions of democracy have been viewed by some green theorists, as a way of creating favourable environmental outcomes via democratic,means. The central contention,isthat deliberative democracy,encourages,the recognition of general interests, and thus, as perhaps the generalisable interest ‘par excellence’, arguments that seek to maintain the integrity of natural systems should prevail. This paper addresses this proposition, through an explanation and analysis of deliberations about stormwater,pollution undertaken by the Bronte Catchment,Citizens’ Jury. It argues that the deliberations that occurred,support,the view that deliberation can create outstanding environmental outcomes. Nevertheless, the citizens’ jury approach
