The aim is to evaluate the economic feasibility of combined regimens of neuroprotection compared with the traditional. METHODS: Analysis of the results of comparative clinical trial of three neuroprotective regimens therapy of patients with moderate and severe AIS: traditional ϩ citicoline (1 regimen); traditional ϩ citicoline ϩ actovegin (2 regimen); 3 regimen: traditional (pentoxifylline, heparin, acetylsalicylic acid, mannitol) (S. M. Vinychuk, O. A. Pustova, V.O. Mokchnach et al., 2008) was carried out. Cost-effectiveness analysis was used. Using a decision tree comparing the economic burden of the three regimens for one year was carried out. RESULTS: The number of patients who recovered completely after three months were used as efficacy. The efficacy for 1, 2 and 3 regimens were respectively 29.6%, 38.9% and 23.3%.

This research aimed to assess the perceptions of pharmacists on involvement in the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccine administration in four Balkan countries (Albania, Bulgaria, Romania, and Serbia). A cross-sectional survey was conducted using an online questionnaire that was distributed to community pharmacists across these countries between February and March 2021. A total of 636 community pharmacists were included in the analysis of the survey. The willingness to administer vaccines for COVID-19 (or other vaccines well established in the practice, like a flu vaccine) in community pharmacies is significantly different among the countries: the pharmacists from Albania were more willing to administer vaccines. The factors associated with the eagerness to vaccinate are almost the same among the countries: the lack of training in the facu...

Current pilot study was undertaken with the aim to identify potential predictors of self-medication with antibiotics (SMA) and to describe SMA practice among nursing students in Serbia. Data have been collected during the period March-May, 2016 in Medical school of bachelor degree, in Belgrade. Self-reported questionnaire served as a data source. Descriptive statistic was used to analyse study sample characteristics. Chi-square test was used to test differences between groups. Study sample have included 138 participants. Almost half of them, 43.8%, practice SMA. Life style (smoking, alcohol consumption, sleeping habits and physical activity) and socio-demographic characteristics (excepted school grade) were not shown as SMA determinants. Time & money savings were stated as the most frequent reason for SMA, while common cold, s...

Venous thromboembolism, including pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis, is a significant f... more Venous thromboembolism, including pulmonary embolism and deep vein thrombosis, is a significant factor in morbidity and mortality of patients. New oral anticoagulants, such as apixaban, dabigatran, and rivaroxaban, have recently demonstrated their safety and efficacy in patients undergoing major orthopaedic surgery. Selection of the appropriate drug should be adjusted according to patient needs. Major bleeding is rare with new oral anticoagulants and is comparable with the bleeding rate associated with low-molecular-weight heparins. Clinical data indicate that therapy with apixaban and rivaroxaban was more effective compared to enoxaparin, while dabigatran has a similar efficacy to enoxaparin. Cost-effectiveness studies of new oral anticoagulants showed that these medicines offer higher efficacy with acceptable costs for the healthcare system, even saving costs in certain cases. Clinical practice in Serbia reflects considerably more frequent use of traditional anticoagulant medicati...

Thirty patients with SSc (mean age 52 years, mean disease duration < 2 years) with forced vital capacity (FVC) ≤ 80% and/or diffusing capacity of carbon monoxide (DLco) ≤ 70% were included. Monthly CYC pulses were given for 6 months (induction treatment), followed by 3-monthly maintenance pulses for the next 18 months, and during the next 5 years patients received other mild immunosupressive therapy brought by the competent rheumatologist. The efficacy was evaluated by comparing FVC% and DLco% after 6, 24, and 84 months from the baseline. All patients completed induction and maintenance treatment with CYC. Three patients were lost to follow-up. The rest of 27 patients, during the next 5 years, received other immunosupressive agents (14 azathioprine, 9 methot...

The aim of this study was to determine the level of knowledge about osteoporosis and osteoporosis related risk factors in postmenopausal women in Serbia. Methods. The study included postmenopausal women regardless if suffering from osteoporosis or not. Assessment of knowledge was carried out by using the Osteoporosis Knowledge Assessment Tool - Shorter Version (OKAT-S) questionnaire that was validated for Serbian population. Answers to the 9 questions were coded as 1 -true, or 0 - false or ?do not know?. Also, the following risk factors data for osteoporosis were collected: age, the onset and duration of menopause, body mass index (BMI), data on fractures, the incidence of falls, smoking, lifestyle (active, sedentary), regular sunbathing, calcium and vitamin D supplementation, intake of milk and dairy products. Results. A total of 132 postmenopausal women responded to the questionnaire with the...

The aim of this study was to examine psychometric properties and to evaluate structural models of the Serbian translation of EPDS in pregnant and postpartum women. Methods: The original English version of the EPDS was translated into Serbian, and checked by means of back-translation. Data were collected via an anonymous online questionnaire posted on a Serbian website devoted to pregnancy topics. The study sample included 201 women (76 pregnant, 125 postpartum). The internal consistency of the scale was measured by Cronbach's a coefficient. Principal component analysis was used to determine scale dimensions while confirmatory factor analysis was used to evaluate model fit. Findings: Cronbach a coefficient was 0.84 and 0.83 in pregnant and postpartum women, respectively, which indicated good internal consistency of the Serbian EPDS. Three dimensions of the scale were revealed in both groups of women. Goodness of fit indices described good and excellent model in pregnant and postpartum women, respectively. High level of depression symptoms (score !13) was recorded in 27.6% and 24.8% (p > 0.05) of pregnant and postpartum women, respectively. Moderate level of depression symptoms (score 10-12) was recorded in 21.1% and 16.8% (p > 0.05) of pregnant and postpartum women, respectively. Conclusion: The Serbian translation of the EPDS showed good consistency and good model characteristics in pregnant and postpartum women. However, cutoff values, sensitivity and specificity of the scale should be determined in the further studies with more representative samples of women.

Development and validation of the scale was conducted in three phases: (1) generating items for the initial survey instrument after qualitative analysis; (2) defining the design and format of the instrument; (3) validation of the instrument. The constructed Ethical Issue scale for community pharmacy setting has two parts containing the same 16 items for assessing the difficulty and frequency thereof. The results of the 171 completely filled out scales were analyzed (response rate 74.89 %). The Cronbach&amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;amp;#39;s α value of the part of the instrument that examines difficulties of the ethical situations was 0.83 and for the part of the instrument that examined frequency of the ethical situations was 0.84. Test-retest reliability for both parts of the instrument was satisfactory with all Interclass correlation coefficient (ICC) values above 0.6, (for the part that examines severity ICC = 0.809, for the part that examines frequency ICC = 0.929). The 16-item scale, as a self assessment tool, demonstrated a high degree of content, criterion, and construct validity and test-retest reliability. The results support its use as a research tool to asses difficulty and frequency of ethical issues in community pharmacy setting. The validated scale needs to be further employed on a larger sample of pharmacists.
